How do you level up in this game? i'm very confused in the beginning, how do you beat the first boss

why can't you run away from wild battles? even tho we're way more higher level, we still can't run away it's so annoying and troublesome. and what's with the pokemon in this game, they are so bulky even tho we're levels higher than them and way more powerful, like we're only using an electivire too so it's even more difficult. like they keep following you no matter what, and we can't even run away, it's honestly very annoying.

Also what is the goal to this game? what do you do after you beat the final boss?

The reason you can't run from wild battles is because you can run faster then they can move. So I set it that if you encounter one you, you have to fight it.
The only thing levels effect is the moves that they know. I manually set custom stats for each individual encounter and is supposed to get harder as the game progresses and encourage training in the city. (This game was heavily inspired by the Digimon World games with this same mechanic.)
Technically after you beat the final boss you beat the game but there is some extra content that unlocks after you beat it.
