Pokémon Sardonyx: Raised to Win is a fangame made in Pokemon Essentials v16.2, by a small team of friends based upon a play-by-post roleplay that lasted for a few years. The roleplay eventually ended in favor of continuing the story as a game and a Nuzlocke comic. We have recently picked up development again and are eager to tell the story we've been wanting to since 2011.

PS:RtW is a somewhat ambitious game, featuring in the future a branching storyline and deep worldbuilding. We may take artistic liberty with many established pieces of Pokémon lore, particularly centering around the Pokémon themselves. We take inspiration from both the games and anime, as well as Nuzlocke artists, a certain PMD fanfiction author, common theories, and random musings from the devs. While we strive to have memorable game mechanics and features, our game is intended to be primarily narrative-driven and rewards the player for exploration and interaction. Almost every object can be interacted with.

While the game may be relatively easy at the start, it is intended to have a difficulty curve similar to Pokémon Platinum Version. We recommend searching the grass for Pokémon (each area has a wide selection, even cities) and training when possible. We do not recommend playing the game on a Nuzlocke Challenge, at least on the first playthrough. More cautious or paranoid players may wish to save the game often, just in case something happens.

We currently have a workable development team and do not technically lack any roles. We should be able to complete the game with our current team. However, we will consider applicants for spriters, scripters, composers, and promotional/graphics artists. Please see the Contact section below.

We market ourselves as a parody protected under Fair Use laws. In no way do we receive profit from media related to this fangame.

Map may not be final and is subject to change.

You begin in Granite Town in the Altaris Region, a small town by the region's standards but beginning to expand and urbanize. Though you already sort of have a Pokémon- a family "pet" belonging to a relative that is no longer available- you decide that you need to go get a Pokémon of your own and become a trainer. Your neighbor and best friend tags along with you as you head to Shardil Town, where the professor will give you a choice between three Pokémon: Eevee, Mienfoo, and Solosis.

Very soon you begin to become aware of a gang, similar to those in other regions and yet somehow different. Reportedly, they almost never steal the Pokémon of other trainers. There are no grunts. There is no consistent uniform or identifying aspect aside from the raven they use as an emblem. These phantom whispers of a gang calling themselves Team Mortis reach you nearly everywhere you go, as does news of their illegal activities: pitting Pokémon against each other in battles to the death.

But are they the only criminal activity in the region?

Adventure through the island region and forge your own story. One might instinctively aim for the Gym challenge and Pokémon League, but none of this is required if you wish to take a more unorthodox path. Talk to everyone you meet, investigate every nook and cranny, explore every hidden passage and you will be rewarded for your efforts with deep worldbuilding and expansions on the established Pokémon lore.

As long as there is life in us.
As long as we hold the will to survive.
Knowing no different, we fight for our masters...
... For we are born to fight...
... And raised to win.

Yeah, my bad. I've updated the first post, but I'll rework it more fully... soon. Later. Maybe.

More updated information can usually be found on the site and/or wiki.

[tab=FAQ]
d72SiJA.png

Q. Why these specific starters?
A. Pokémon Sardonyx: Raised to Win is based on a Pokémon roleplay the other devs and I did years back. In the roleplay, when a few trainers got to Spruce's lab, I rolled ten random Pokémon they could select as starters. Mary got Eevee, Jordan got Mienfoo, and the third character- who has been replaced by Rhodie- got Solosis.

Q. Will you be implementing a Nuzlocke mode?
A. No. The game should be providing enough of a challenge on its own, and because you may face a legitimate Game Over scenario we want to discourage players from placing permadeath restrictions on themselves.

Q. Will you be implementing a randomizer mode?
A. Possibly. We'll see.

Q. What does the dex look like?
A. The full National Dex is available and all Pokémon should be obtainable at some point in the game or through Mystery Gift. We also have custom Mega Evolutions and Regional Variants. Besides these custom forms, we will have no Fakemon.

Q. Will you be implementing Z-Moves?
A. No.

Q. Will there be online features?
A. We're planning on it. One of the devs is willing to host the server, we just need to figure out the "how".

Q. When is Sardonyx's next demo coming out?
A. We plan to release the next demo in July 2018.[/tab]

How------------------------What are the evolution methods for Eevee?
https://rtw-wiki.nebulonranger.org/mw/index.php/Eevee

It evolves into one of eight different Pokémon through various methods:
Vaporeon when exposed to a Water Stone.
Jolteon when exposed to a Thunder Stone.

Flareon when exposed to a Fire Stone.
Espeon when leveled up with high friendship during the daytime, including morning (excludes areas with a Moss Rock or Ice Rock).
Umbreon when leveled up with high friendship during the nighttime (excludes areas with a Moss Rock or Ice Rock).
Leafeon when leveled up near a Moss Rock.
Glaceon when leveled up near an Ice Rock.
Sylveon when leveled up with a Fairy-type move and high friendship (excludes areas with a Moss Rock or Ice Rock). Normally, two levels of Affection is required, but this was altered in Pokémon Sardonyx: Raised to Win due to the absence of Pokémon-Amie and Pokémon Refresh.

As of Demo 1.2 the only possible evolutions that Eevee can get are Flareon and by technicality Umbreon, Espeon, and Sylveon. (I don't know how dedicated people will be to run around until Eevee's friendship is high enough)

Hey folks, quick update. We're looking at releasing the next demo sometime during the summer, probably July, and are relatively unlikely to put out another interim patch unless another gamebreaking bug is found.

Feel free to post bug reports here regardless, but there's a chance we may have already found and fixed it by now.

It's also possible that information on the wiki is no longer accurate, as I tend to edit it soon after a change is made; movesets won't be 100% accurate to the latest patch at this point anymore.

Happy Easter, everyone! (Even if you don't actually celebrate it.) Tonight, my co-dev and I are proud to give you 1.3! ... Yeeeaaah, I know what we just said. But in the end, we thought this was necessary to do.

While we might not have everything covered in the changelog for this patch, we did manage to fix quite a few things and also added a few things. This includes:
-A PG mode
-A randomizer
-Finally figuring out what the deal was with that resizer error, so that shouldn't be a problem anymore... Keyword being shouldn't. There also may be some weirdness regarding the L and XL sizes that we'll look into later
-Creating night fogs for several cities
-Giving Shardil and Rubina their own tilesets and editing to utilize them
-Wild item drops (thanks Cilerba)
-An always needed metallic animation
As well as many other things.

It's basically the same steps as before for updating. Just go to our official site to download the patch, extract and replace files. Although this time due to the nature of this patch, you're recommended to delete your entire Audio folder before extracting. Doing otherwise shouldn't really present any problems. This is just to make sure you get all of the audio files you need for this game.

In addition, in celebration of Easter, we have Sardonyx's very first Mystery Gift! It'll be available throughout the entire month of April. What it is, we're not saying. So get it for yourself to find out. I suggest you update before getting it to prevent any issues.

Well, I believe we've had our fun yesterday... Actually the funny thing is that we weren't even lying about anything we did. We sent out 1.3, which was a legitimate patch. Our Mystery Gift event- the all too hilarious Groray- will continue until the end of the month. Yeah no, it was April Fools (or well really Easter Fools) and the prank was we told the truth while doing something funny at the same time.

But regardless, we've decided that a bit of a hotfix was necessary for a few things, so we have 1.3.1 available now. As a note, if you've already updated to 1.3, you'll just need the two files named Game from the archive. We really just decided to consolidate those with the 1.3 update since those two are the only ones that have changed just to make updating from earlier versions easier. Check the changelog for all of the alterations. We even threw in a bit of a surprise which... honestly would have made more sense for Easter... Whoops!

For some reason, after the Pichu on Route 1 fled for the second time, it stopped appearing in the entire map. What should I do?

I've got a potential bug, but it might just be something on my end, I'm not sure yet.
I've recently started replaying this game again, but for some reason it'll only save in the second slot? Like... I'll start up the file in the first slot, do some stuff, save, quit, but it's the second file that's been overwritten. (lost my only groray from this, rip) I don't know what's causing it, and even if I rename the files to switch places it's still the second slot file that gets overwritten.
Some help would be... very nice. I've never experienced this before. ;w;

EDIT; I don't know if it's related, but sometimes switching files gives me this error;
"Critical error C0000005 at address 100717E6"

That is... very strange. I've noticed some bugs with the quicksave/multisave stuff before, but Giga never does, and I've never hit that particular bug before. Giga'll be better at troubleshooting, but for the moment I suggest the following:

1. See if it still happens if you remove the save file in slot 2 completely.
2. Make sure the files have the same screen size. (this caused some weird errors we don't really understand.)
3. See if both normal saving and quicksaving do this, or if it's just one of them.
4. See if it's just the first slot saving in the second or if slots after 2 also save strangely. (NORMALLY save them first- quicksaving a new file seems to overwrite the *first* slot for some people)

Okay, so I deleted everything, including my save files (I didn't really get much past the starting area so nbd) in case it was just my copy of the game bugging out - started over completely fresh with a new zip and everything.
Made one new file, copied it twice so that I had three files- Game, game_1, and game_2.

First thing I noticed is that changing to a different save still (frequently) makes the game crash with that one error. Second thing is that the third file ('game_2') wasn't even registered in the slots, only the first two, game and game_1. Manually making a new save worked, though, so I don't know what's with that.
I saved in a bunch of different areas to see if the second got overwritten instead of the first, but never got it to happen again. Third file (the one I had to make through the game itself) was similarly untouched.
I'll probably just make sure to only have one file in the future, minimize the odds of my file breaking again. If I notice anything weird I'll make sure to mention it.

Weird thing is that I never touched the game after getting groray (I think a dif game I watch had updated at the time?) and it had been working fine before then, so I have no idea why it bugged out like that.

I'll be completely honest, I've have not run into that many issues with multiple save files outside of the screen sizing issue which resulted in the game crashing pre-1.3 on certain sizes. And even that one I only noticed because someone else had that issue, and it took me about month to realize what was happening. And tbh, outside of Kuda's suggestions, I probably would have recommended backing up your save files, doing what you did, and then slowly replacing them with the old to see if the issue was fixed. Although that's just my thought process based on little experience with this issue, so I'm not 100% sure if that would have worked... idk... I'm glad it (sorta) worked out, but I still feel weird about it...

(Funny enough, Kuda was the one who implemented the multiple save files feature. Though she did implement it correctly, so I'm fairly certain it's just this game being weird... Besides, I can't really blame the floofy fox anyway. <3)

On another note, sorry the thread seems to have come to a grinding halt otherwise. We are still working on this game, and will try to get our next demo out during the summer. Still shooting for sometime in July, but if that plan fails, we'll at least make sure to have it out before the start of fall.

Hello, the game looks great! I've heard that there are death battles here. Are they common?

Can these Pokemon get revived somehow after being killed or are they gone forever?

Demo 1 only has one deathmatch. The upcoming demo promises to have a few more. While not that common compared to normal battles, you'll typically know when one is about to happen.

As for reviving Pokémon, there will be a method for that at some point. Just don't expect for a while.

Demo 2 coming very soon! We're wrapping up the story and have mostly completed things on the mapping and graphics front. (Still have some graphics to make, but we're nearly finished with them and most of it is pretty quick and easy).

To tide you over, here's a quick preview!

Updates can be more quickly and closely followed via Twitter or Discord, but we'll try not to let this thread fall into disrepair. I'll be reworking the first post when our next demo drops!

Well go figure, I make a post, get ready to post it, and see that my co-dev already posted. Ah well, attempt number 2... Woo...

Anyway, I definitely should have posted about this here sooner, but I guess it still works... We've recent opened applications for beta testers on our Discord server. So if you're interested, feel free to hop on your if you haven't already. Link can be found on our Twitter page, website, and first post of this thread.

As for the upcoming demo itself, this takes the player out of Rubina, continuing eastward through Peridot Forest and toward Citrivale. If you're planning on challenging the League, then prepare yourself for an electrifying battle with Dynamo. Now with that said, I'm gonna be honest and say that this demo only adds this gym. But if you're measuring progress by number of gyms, then I ask you... Are you nuts? That'd be a pretty short demo. No, there's definitely two more cities after Citrivale you'll be going to in this demo.

This demo has its share of returning and new characters. Some friendly. Others, not so much. Try to keep your team as safe as you can, as Team Mortis will make their first true appearance this demo.

This demo introduces a few new features, such as the supplier system previewed a few months ago and the actually implemented Hard Mode. And if we can get footage together for it, we may have another to show off before the demo releases. Otherwise, I'll just cover it myself on release day. Either way, we hope you like it. (Or at the very least, I do. It took a while for me to script it...)

Besides that, we may have one more pre-release surprise for you if you've enjoyed the forms we've added to Sardonyx so far.

Thank you all once again for your patience as we get this demo ready.
