This game is designed to be free range. I guess I might mean "Open World" but it's not as if there's a large open field with infinite directions to travel in, so by calling it free range I mean that it's really chill and has features like these:​

Wild Pokemon and trainers will scale with your party, so do things in any order you want

The region map isn't filled out, at least not with route markers. If a character mentions a certain area or asks you to travel somewhere, they'll try to mark the path for you.

Gyms have no strict order or type, so challenge them in any order! Or not at all! They'll also rematch with different teams.

Following Pokemon! The first Pokemon in your party can be toggled as a following partner, and they'll unique reactions or pick up items based on your surroundings.

Catching Mechanics Earn exp for catching Pokemon, and have the option of switching them into the party immediately.

Unreal Time Some Pokemon might only appear at night or might appear more often in the day, but time moves fast so you don't worry about resetting your system clock.

Known issues/bugs:
There's no credits sequence or clear ending yet
There's obvious content gates where stuff was cut for completion time
Playing with the game screensize set to "Large" causes some closeup pictures to be cutoff/not display correctly.
The prompt asking to sleep in a bed might appear twice in a row, and appear before interacting with an object/person in the bed
Using the PC and swapping two Pokemon may cause the game to crash. Withdrawing/Depositing and setting Pokemon in empty spaces should work fine.


F.A.Q.:
Q:
Why did HeroVoltsy get a shiny Zorua and I didn't get a Pokemon?
A: It's an easter egg! If your character is named Voltsy, or Jasmine, you'll get a shiny Zorua.

Q: Are there other easter egg names?
A: Heck yeah. I love adding gifts for my friends so there's a bunch of names and you might even find something by accident.

Q: Why do I have to play as the boy character? Why do I have to play as the girl character?
A: The character is chosen at random, you can reset if it really bothers you. I prefer to write without using pronouns, but both protagonist's pronouns are they/them.

Q: What's the shiny rate?
A: Higher than normal. If you wanna have a giggle, there's also some names you can give your character (Glitter, Glimmer, Shimmer, Sparkle, or Shiny) that will make your whole game shiny. (some stuff is shiny locked though and won't be affected)

Q: Which Pokemon are available?
A: There's not a plan, I just add whatever suits the areas I design. At time of writing I can say that all the starters from generations 1-5 are available, and there's also some regional forms and split evolutions.

Q: How many badges are there?
A: Currently, 4 badges.

Q: Was that a reference to another fan game?
A: Probably, I like fan games and I'm not subtle about it.

Q: Why isn't this working with my emulator? What emulator do I need? Can I play this on mobile?
A: This game isn't played with an emulator, so if someone told you it was playable on mobile, they lied! The game should work fine on any Windows PC without any extra programs to run it. Macs should be able to run it through Wine(? Sorry I don't know the details on this one).

Q: How do I update to a new version? Can I keep my old save file?
A: Save files are stored on your computer separately from the game files, so it's safe to completely delete an old version of the game. The new/updated version of the game will recognize an old save file and use it with no problem.

Q: Is the game finished?
A: No, it's not complete. There's several areas that were blocked off (probably by rocks) because they're not finished. I don't know when the next big chunk of content will be done; I make games for fun so

Q: When will it be done?
A: I don't know! Making games like this is my idea of fun, so I'm not gonna like, recruit people to make parts of the game just to get it done faster. And some days I feel like playing games instead of making them :P



Note for devs: If you want something from the game please download the resource pack, but don't rip or take files directly from the game, most of this stuff is a public resource and not made by me.

One year later, the game is brand new! It's been reworked from start to the new finish, and now Tempo Rising is a whole new game, and has a custom soundtrack! Please check it out! I've already updated the resource pack and this thread's OP if you need a refresher. I hope you'll give the game a try at least just to hear the great stuff DogzNDogz113 has composed.

If you played before, I strongly recommend starting a new game. I didn't force save files to break, but you're missing out on a ton of reworked and new content. If you insist on keeping an old file (again, I don't recommend) then saving in the Mythic Forest where the game begins is probably the safest place. Pretty much every other area has been redesigned and you're likely to get stuck in a wall if you just boot up the new version.

Sorry I've got one more patch, I made a mistake while editing last time. It's not a crash but one of the gyms isn't working!

There's a trainer in Uprock Gym who acts like you already battled her and so you can't challenge the leader? Here's a tiny download to fix that. It's not the whole game this time so just drop this file into the Data folder and override the existing file. Done!

As I write this I'm uploading version 2.2 again, so anyone who downloads the full game after this won't have to apply the fix.

Game crashed with no warning when I tried to rematch the guard with the beedrill to the right of the water gym.

Second time I tried after reloading an error popped up.

I caught a Dhelmise, saved, and when I tried to open the Pokemon screen the game got a weird error and crashed. Now the game crashes when I go to the file select screen with the same error.

I found another, I'm not even sure how to categorize this, a bug I guess you would call it. I'm using both Shedinja and Ninjask on my team temporarily but something weird happens between the two that I'm not sure how to describe. It's like any changes that are made to the moves of one of the pokemon gets applied to the other. When I taught my Shedinja Spite in the third moveslot it overwrote the third move slot on Ninjask with spite even though Ninjask can't learn Spite except by move tutor. Also when I have either use a move in battle it takes PP away from both Ninjask and Shedinja as if they both used the move. I even tested it by removing Shedinja from the party and using a TM on Ninjask to see if Shedinja and the same move it had the same move in the same slot as Ninjask. It's not anything game breaking or anything but it is very weird and thought I should bring it to your attention.

Idk why the image isn't inserting, but it's a ledge in the southwestern corner of Mythic Forest. I don't think you're supposed to be able to jump over it, and I don't think there's a way for the player to get out.

Edit: it's the same picture posted two different ways, so if one isn't loading don't fret.

I need help. It appears that I am stuck at this part where I have talked to these guys here. The game crashed and autosaved. Then I tried to get back and when I did, I couldn't move. Little help here, please? I got a shiny farfetche'd that I rather not lose. Also, I am kind of fond of the team that I have. This is the save file

Hey thanks for sending this to me, I'm totally humbled by that playtime! I booted up the save and didn't seem to be stuck, but I moved you a couple paces away from those guys just to be safe :P
Here's your save back, I also fixed all the wild pokemon being asleep, sorry about that one!

oh my GOSH this is amazing!!!! it's such a beautiful game in scenery and music and I love all the charming little details put in!!!

I'm having some issues with plot flags:
- I went to mambo before going to uprock. when I got back (to mythicedge), uncles acted as if I had already been to uprock and told me to go see my parents
- I read every book in the room before leaving prof camphor's to go to the pokemon center and to have a battle like she suggested. when I got back she suggested I read meloetta a book in the room, which I couldn't do. talked to her again and she said welcome back, how was the museum? and nothing further

that's where I am now and I have no idea where to go from here!
