Notes:
It's random chance that goes into deciding who you face at the Gym. I've done everything I could think of to keep it interesting and avoid repetition, but it may happen once in a while, especially early on. Also, some early-game Trainers get stronger if you leave them be. You can only fight each Trainer once, so make it count!
Finally, there is no barrier between areas. You can access areas containing Pokemon five times your strength straight out the gate!
Have fun you guys!

First of all thank you for all the effort you put into this version! I got to the end of the demo yesterday and have been chewing it in my thoughts. First thought me and people in the discord I was playing it in had is that Umbal City is very pretty. Much of the gameplay loop is the same as the last version and there's only a few days of it - I didn't notice if the gym puzzle changed the trainers that came in, except maybe the last encounter I had? But I did enjoy the couple difficult trainers that did come in. As for new mechanics I am such a fan of the gym moves, they're a really good idea. I've restarted the game to see what they all were and I have some general thoughts on them (not critiques necessarily, but stream of consciousness thoughts). I was pretty committed to continuing ice in future versions but my buildcraft brain is vibrating with some of these

Terrain moves:

Electric - I think an offensive move that sets terrain is neat! It means terrain will actually end up being set for a fight, most of the time. Electric terrain is fun, and since it can be reliably set unlike the three below this helps bring out electric's strength as fast hard-hitters. Idk if the ai even wants to swap out normally, but not being able to switch into a ground type to mitigate a strong hit is theoretically pretty decent.

Grass, Fairy and Psychic - I'm lumping these three into the same category because they're so similar. It's difficult to make a team specifically around utilizing the field since you're reliant on the opposing trainer's team composition to set the terrain, and you don't have much control of when in the fight they'll send a pokemon weak to you out, but I don't think that's too much of an issue. Being able to set terrain in the same turn as you deal damage makes these good no matter what, even if it's conditional on the circumstances. They're very high bp moves as well and I'm not sure if I'd advocate for them staying the way they are or for being a little weaker...like, you set terrain with the weaker terrain move and then switch to using a different offensive move. But also having a high bp move as a Tm at low levels is really useful, so. Last thought on these is that the grass type one in particular seems like it'd be very fun since you get whimsicott as a starter - which means via nature power you can use a priority, stab and terrain boosted energy ball. Whimsicott go Kill.

Ground: This one's very thematically fitting for ground type. You control the land and terrain! Nobody gets to control the terrain better than you do. My initial thought is that it'd be optimal to set terrain yourself for the double damage, but unless you add more mons that set terrain via ability that might be difficult. I'm not sure what pokemon learn this Tm though, or how often trainers are going to be using terrain. This might be something that the gym puzzle will interact with, as you'd want to attract smart trainers who'd set grassy terrain or the like. A bonkers interaction imo would be if Arboliva could learn this move.

Damaging moves with secondary effects:

Water: This is such an interesting move! I think this is my favorite of the bunch! Off the top of my head you could keep getting healing or supereffective-resisting berries to make an already tanky mon extremely tanky, you could continuously recycle a water gem that regenerates every time you use this move, you could get an eject button recycled on regenerator mons like slowbro or toxapex, etc. etc. I can imagine a gym themed around diving for treasure and it's just really, really cute.

Ghost: Speaking of cute moves, this one is also quite cute. I feel like the dragon tail mechanic does actually fit ghosts better than it does dragons - in the first place, dragons have so much brute strength that dragon tail doesn't get much use. But also, the effect is inherently frustrating and bratty...someone's gone through all the trouble of setting up, and you just force them to switch out? Teehee, such a shame~

Normal: As opposed to attacking while also setting your persistent effect or using a pokemon's ability to set it, I think this is the only way to set freeing atmosphere currently? We were talking about the atmosphere effects in a discord and there's several good uses for it. Bounce and fly are good coverage for fighting, and a one-turn skull bash is absolutely brutal. I think it's worth having to spend a move to set it first when you can rapid-fire two-turn moves for a few turns afterward.

Flying: Stealth-rock begone! It does make sense that a strong flying-type trainer would be able to do this. It gets rid of one of flying's big weaknesses while yet again being a reliable and strong move even without the secondary effect.

Poison, rock and fire: these are all middling bp moves that have a chance to inflict poison or burn respectively. Poison on a rock type move is unique but the since there's only a chance of it being applied I wouldn't build a strategy around it. My buildcraft thoughts for these immediately turned toward using sheer force actually. Poison gets nidoran as a starter and miasma would be a reliable move for it, but sludge bomb beats it out in strength. If I had to guess these moves might be temporary.

Ice: This is the one I used the most in my run of the demo since I had a full playthrough with it. I like it - ice as a type has to hit hard to make up for its fragility, and crits are great utility for bypassing mons that set up screens or defenses. For that purpose though I'd prefer using frost breath, y'know? So I'd probably use frost breath if I found it as a Tm over this since it'd always crit. I appreciate the high bp early game Tm though.

Dragon: It's a strong dragon type move that uses the highest of either stat. Aside from the obvious, that it automatically uses the user's highest attacking stat, this also helps resist effects that would lower your stats like burn. Good and reliable, it's not the strongest dragon type move but I'd use it over a slightly higher bp move for that bit of utility alone.

Steel: The description doesn't make it clear if this uses the user's or opponent's item, as well as whether it consumes the item to use the move. Either way it's, if you'll excuse the pun, a solid looking move.

Bug: The description of the Tm doesn't currently match the move learned so this move might be a WIP. I think it's meant to be a special version of beat-up which I quite like.

The new items and atmospheres are another level of complexity that I appreciate in the game. Serene helps fragile ice types not be swept by fast pokemon and score k.o.'s with slower mons, while freeing is neat and gives normal gyms more of an identity. I saw that there's a spooky atmosphere as well in your screenshots that I have yet to find in-game, so I'll look around for it. While the first demo doesn't have these items for you to buy or find yet, I assume, there was a trainer with a persistent item that reduced supereffective damage in exchange for stat drops, which I think is a fair trade. For types weak to common offensive typings these look like a cool assist for gym leaders as much as they're there to make trainer battles more interesting. Anyways I apologize for the wall of text I think your game is fun :)

I really enjoyed my playthrough back on 4.18 (I think), so I'm super excited to get started on Rank Up! I've noticed quite a few graphics issues (inconsistent player sprites, odd scaling of Pokemon battle sprites, walking too far through doors with no opening animation, etc) but since that's cosmetic, I assume that'll be fixed towards the end. I would recommend fixing the running speed, though, as the animation plays much faster than the character moves and it's currently not much of an improvement to walking.
I've also noticed some spelling/grammar mistakes. Is there a good way to report smaller issues like this we come across?
There's probably also a more efficient way of storing the Pokemon Sprites, since each Pokemon currently has 8 Battler Sprites (Back, Front, Shiny Back, and Shiny Front, each existing twice. Double that if there's a gender/form difference. Dont get me started on Alcremie) and I've seen it condensed to a single file in other games.
If you're looking for any help, I'd love to offer some: I have a reasonable bit of spriting experience with Infinite Fusion, a little bit of coding/modding experience (for Pokemon Reborn specifically, but Essentials is Essentials) and I'd say I'm pretty good at spotting typos and such.
I could imagine that the game would benefit from some custom player sprites, and I'd be happy to provide some!

So far I've found a few minor bugs like invisible obstacles or missing collision, so mostly stuff that'll get cleaned up over time.
However, there's a pretty major one that crashes the game if you try to get a Rowlet from Lilith. It seems to be specifically Rowlet, at least all others I have tried worked just fine. Free my round lil boy

Hello, everyone!
Just wanted to let everyone know that a small patch for Pokemon This Gym of Mine: Rank Up has been released.

Nothing too major, but it does take care of some crashes in easily accessible events, as well as some minor fixes here and there.
I will be looking out for any other bugs and issues that may arise, so please let me know if anyone finds anymore.

Hope you all have a nice day!

found some bugs. if you use teleport you will land in the out-of-bounds area on top of the cave of knowledge and will soft-lock yourself. also, the map shows another region instead of the game world, and if you try to use the pokedex's "where you can find this Pokemon" feature, it crashes the game. Aron's is weirdly floating.

You don't use emulators with this kind of game. They come with a .exe file that is used to play the game.
