If a battle doesn't go in your favour, or the journey is just too harsh, the Nurse Joys and their strange machine are there to make sure the game goes on unhindered. Being able to take a Pokemon from battered and bruised to stable seems like magic. Still, it's a magic that no-one really questions.
But even magic had to be invented at some point. Some people in the Pokemon world today were alive when the machine didn't exist.

...And some nurse Joy, right at the bottom of the Pokemon world, had to be the last to get it.

The year is 198X. A team of top-class scientists (and one nurse) from across the globe are anxiously waiting for the storm to end. They're one of the few to work in Antaxius 'overwinter' - it's the last region to be discovered by man, an icy waste where the nights are a month long. Once the weather finally clears, an icebreaker ship can make it to the mainland and deliver valuable equipment. Among the cargo is the Re:Vive - a machine that promises to magically heal any Pokemon, and any ailment.

Resident nurse Aida has been working here for 20 years, and out of all the miracle cures she's seen, this one could be for real. She knows it'll change the field of Pokemon care forever, and possibly the rest of the world. No more panic, no more stress, no more death, even.
But how will she spend the last week before that change happens, knowing things can't and shouldn't go back?

The Last Nurse Joy won't have traditional Pokemon gameplay (mostly) - instead, it's more of a slow-paced puzzle game. Each patient will have an ailment that needs to be treated - but unlike vets in our world, a Nurse Joy has to deal with over eight hundred different kinds of pets.
Most of the puzzle lies in finding out what the issue is, or getting a finicky patient to co-operate with you!

Webp.net-gifmaker (10).gif
Webp.net-gifmaker (2).gif

~Take your patient's temperature, measure their heartbeat, or even X-Ray them at the blue observation desk.
~Have a look at their anatomy, or find out if Ice-Types can catch a cold at the green diagnosis bookshelf.
~Pick up everything you'll need to treat, feed, or comfort your patient at the red treatment table!
~If you're completely stuck, try the hint chair.
~You can get a lot out of just observing your Pokemon, and more importantly - you can pet all of them.
Once that's done, talk to Chansey to lock in your treatment, and see if your judgement was right...
ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif

Depending on how well you've done your job, you can get a Bronze, Silver, or a Gold ranking. There are 6 cases total in the game (with bonus cases potentially being added in the future once the judging is done. I'll keep you updated on that.) How many extra steps you took to make sure the Pokemon was happy, if you even succeeded in treating the Pokemon; all of that determines your rank, and...eventually, the ending you get.

Oh - and digging a little deeper into the where, why, and how of your patient's injury could lead to something special, but you'll have to find that yourself.

Note: this game depicts animal injury and distress in a semi-realistic way.

If you want to contact me personally - if there's any issues with crediting, if I need to include anything else on this thread, then feel free to reply, and we can continue our conversation in Discord DMs.

This is my first time being a lead dev as opposed to a lead spriter, and while there were a lot of growing pains involved and a lot of mistakes I undoubtedly made, I'm still immensely happy that I could put out a complete story, and thankful for everyone that helped make this happen.
I hope the Last Nurse Joy...brings you joy?

So I found a bug
Basically when I grabbed the toy at the end of the Skitty act when Aida asked for it, she finished talking and then everything faded to black and didn't come back (hah that rhymed)

I'm trying to get Zweilous on my party but none of the food I'm finding is working :( I can't feed it anything from the fridge in the center, the break room (it'll say I took the item, but then it doesn't appear in my bag at all), or from the room with the leftovers out on the table. I feel like I'm being punished for remembering seeing things earlier in the game. Is this just a 'the game is going to pull stuff out of nowhere' moment? Or did I miss another food source?? Zweilous isn't giving me any hints to what it could actually want either. I've tried everything that was food that I could find, but none of it is going into the bag... I've also tried my best to check the entire map for the record, clicking on every box, every npc, etc. sorry if this is stupid I just legitimately can't figure this out
I had same problem but i think i might know how to solve.. could try to grab the food in fridge before the events. haven't tried it myself but it could be a possibility. Gl and tell me if it worked.

I extracted all the files from the latest version (1.7) but when I click on the application it doesn't start. I've tried restarting my laptop, deleting and redownloading the game but nothing has worked. Any ways to solve this?

So sorry for the late replies! Thank you guys so much for the continued support of this game, it's really nice seeing it still get attention!

Help with a soft lock/glitch?
I was trying to get an extramile ranking with Zweilous and as soon as the trainer asked for a supplement to prescribe the cutscene that plays where you enter the room triggered again. Now I am soft locked and can walk through funiture after the cutscene ended again while not being able to interact with anything. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the game which did not work, I however didn't try a new save (which I would rather not do) as I am trying to find a better possible solution. Lastly I don't have the font folder in the control panel, I doubt this is what is causing the problem but I thought it was worth mentioning just in case.
Hi, I was doing the chansey mission and got the key stone but when I tried to leave the guy was in the way of the door and didn't move. Is there any way to un-softlock myself?
Hi, I got softlocked in someone's bed thanks to the weavile following me into it lol. Any way to get out?
If you guys send me your save file (C/Users/(Your name)/Saved Games/The Last Nurse Joy), I should be able to fix it for you!
So I found a bug
Basically when I grabbed the toy at the end of the Skitty act when Aida asked for it, she finished talking and then everything faded to black and didn't come back (hah that rhymed)
Got to the Ditto chapter. But the screen goes black the moment I chase the wheat bag out of the lounge and then never recovers.

I get a whole dialogue over a black screen, and then am left free wandering completely blind. Not sure what can be done, seems like I'm just locked?

Also seems to be a bug that I can chase the wheat bag from the moment I finish the 3rd case and am left standing in the lounge. In which case the dialogue with Dr Garcia upon leaving the lounge for the first time begins, but again with an entirely black screen until I return to the lounge.

Should hopefully have fixes for these in a future update! In the meantime, do any of you need me to fix your save file?
I can't get the stay-in-centre option to work for Skitty. Is there anyway to fix it? Even when I click yes it sends Skitty back
Could you show me what items you have in your bag? I'm wondering if this is an issue of some item combination we didn't think to account for...

I extracted all the files from the latest version (1.7) but when I click on the application it doesn't start. I've tried restarting my laptop, deleting and redownloading the game but nothing has worked. Any ways to solve this?
Have you possibly moved the .exe outside of the folder?
This game has been SO fun to play!! I never knew I needed a pokemon doctor game until I played this. I really wanted to finish it, but sadly something went wrong. Okay so I was going to go get the rainbow rock (trying to avoid spoilers) and my bag was full, the game thought I grabbed it so it took the item off the screen, but the text window told me my bag was full. Idk if I can do anything to get the stone to spawn again, so I think I'm soft-locked from finishing the game.
What do I do if my bag was full when I grabbed the keystone my bag was full is there anyway to progress?

If you two don't mind an awkward hotfix - add the attached file named Map113.rxdata to your game's Data folder, replacing the file that's currently in there, and a new box will appear in the storage room! (Bottom-left corner of the facility)

This should fix it! Hope you enjoy the rest of the game!

Definitely have a lot of bugs to iron out (especially in that Zwellious mission, the bane of my playtesting lol) but hopefully we'll have a final update put together soon!

Wanted to offer feedback in that this is a really interesting little fan game with a whole lot of love evidently poured in and a remarkable, wholly unique concept that tickled me pink. But.

I love puzzles as much as the next person, but trying to get the best ratings across all of these cases (I still haven't finished at the time of writing this due to what I presume is a bug? Elaboration further down the post), especially the opening case being frustrating to the point I nearly walked away and ended up just cheating by looking up guides. It wasn't even remotely apparent that more would be done after keeping 'mons longer term and smashing my head against the wall trying to find out how to best treat the first or third cases in the long-term was painful, especially when the third heavily implied I didn't do well enough despite seemingly being scripted to produce the same outcome regardless.

Elaborating on my presumed bug:
As of now, trying to figure out what in God's name I am supposed to do with Gothitelle has been mind numbingly tedious and leaves me at a point where there is no feasible way anything beyond a game breaking bug has occurred. Trying to progress with Gothitelle this entire time has felt disjointed and like bugs have been skipping entire sections, which has turned out to very possibly have been the case. I am, out of nowhere, being given visions of the green... room? And hinted at trying to prevent harm on a broken bulb. Trying to do just that, I am only told that "What's not broken can't be fixed" and there are quite literally zero NPCs or interactable items left on the map. I have touched everything. Trying to talk to Gothitelle produces inexplicable questioning about whether or not she's afraid for Pikachu and using the hint chair produces lines about Zweilous not being able to jump onto the games table without something to climb on. That something being an object I've already picked up, because it was shown to me and implied I should collect it.

I really like the tone of this game, it's exceeded my expectations in many ways despite the chosen music in some parts instilling shocking amounts of anxiety to the point I've had to actually shut the game down a few times - one of such having me save during the Gothitelle treatment, meaning I can't try to avoid any bugs that have occurred. Despite my fondness of this? I am not even remotely willing to restart just to make your game play nice with ITSELF. I've seemingly sequence broken a few times already just by exploring to try and talk to people, finding clones or people phased into walls or people who repeat older dialogue that shouldn't still be being said. But I've powered through it until now, but at this point I can't find any possible way to finish this and I'm not willing to waste more time of my life on this.

With that all said? I want to thank you for putting so much love into this creation - it was interesting. At least, when it wasn't being frustrating beyond reason, that is.

yeah...that just about sums up how I feel about it too. first game, six weeks to make it, all that. i should not have picked a game jam to make a full length puzzle game and I was too prideful to cut it down to a reasonable length.

unfortunately i can't help with the bugs (project's been misplaced and poorly documented, in uni assignment hell) but, i'm guessing you've already made up your mind? thankyou for thanking me, either way.

if you don't mind, though, you mentioned anxiety-inducing music - can you tell me which one it was? i've heard a few people tell me that aspects of the last nurse joy made them feel like shit for playing and that's not a mistake I want to repeat. if i recall correctly the one example of music/ambience I put in that was intentionally anxiety-inducing would've been at the end of the gothitelle case, so ik it can't have been that.

Going back and playing it again for a few minutes from a fresh save file solely to check and see if I could find the music, I'm finding that in general the pixel graphics of the generation, the isolation of the environment and how often NPCs just disappear into thin air alongside the ambient hallway music and the music played outside are what are most making me uncomfortable. I obviously don't have that same first-time experience to reflect on anymore, but the foreboding it established was a bit much for what was expected out of really anything Pokemon, besides the few obviously edgy fan submissions.

Looking back now? I still find it very unsettling, especially with the pseudo game of The Thing that you set up with Ditto looming in the back of my mind and the foreboding regarding Aida's eventual place once the 4 days is up. Though that may be on account of the fact that I don't know what happens, given my previous accounts. but naming exactly what, why or how is difficult. The hallway music is the only big one that I can say with any certainty.

Okay, this is very interesting!! I'll keep it in mind whenever I create ambience from now on. Maybe being part of a game jam itself created that 'unpolished cursed game' feeling...

What system are you playing on? Did you extract the file?
well i have a mac but i also have a windows virtual machine, so i downloaded it normally on my mac and then went to open it in my virtual machine. windows recognizes it as an aplication so i assumed i just had to run it. i did extract it from the zip file so i assumed that was all the extraction i needed to do?

Hm, yeah, it definitely sounds like you’ve got it set up right. I’m unfortunately not experienced with Windows virtual machines, so I don’t know if that would affect anything with .dlls… Is the filepath to the game especially long?

not really. it's just \\Mac\Home\Desktop\TLNJ 1.7.
