If a battle doesn't go in your favour, or the journey is just too harsh, the Nurse Joys and their strange machine are there to make sure the game goes on unhindered. Being able to take a Pokemon from battered and bruised to stable seems like magic. Still, it's a magic that no-one really questions.
But even magic had to be invented at some point. Some people in the Pokemon world today were alive when the machine didn't exist.

...And some nurse Joy, right at the bottom of the Pokemon world, had to be the last to get it.

The year is 198X. A team of top-class scientists (and one nurse) from across the globe are anxiously waiting for the storm to end. They're one of the few to work in Antaxius 'overwinter' - it's the last region to be discovered by man, an icy waste where the nights are a month long. Once the weather finally clears, an icebreaker ship can make it to the mainland and deliver valuable equipment. Among the cargo is the Re:Vive - a machine that promises to magically heal any Pokemon, and any ailment.

Resident nurse Aida has been working here for 20 years, and out of all the miracle cures she's seen, this one could be for real. She knows it'll change the field of Pokemon care forever, and possibly the rest of the world. No more panic, no more stress, no more death, even.
But how will she spend the last week before that change happens, knowing things can't and shouldn't go back?

The Last Nurse Joy won't have traditional Pokemon gameplay (mostly) - instead, it's more of a slow-paced puzzle game. Each patient will have an ailment that needs to be treated - but unlike vets in our world, a Nurse Joy has to deal with over eight hundred different kinds of pets.
Most of the puzzle lies in finding out what the issue is, or getting a finicky patient to co-operate with you!

~Take your patient's temperature, measure their heartbeat, or even X-Ray them at the blue observation desk.
~Have a look at their anatomy, or find out if Ice-Types can catch a cold at the green diagnosis bookshelf.
~Pick up everything you'll need to treat, feed, or comfort your patient at the red treatment table!
~If you're completely stuck, try the hint chair.
~You can get a lot out of just observing your Pokemon, and more importantly - you can pet all of them.
Once that's done, talk to Chansey to lock in your treatment, and see if your judgement was right...
ezgif.com-gif-maker.gif

Depending on how well you've done your job, you can get a Bronze, Silver, or a Gold ranking. There are 6 cases total in the game (with bonus cases potentially being added in the future once the judging is done. I'll keep you updated on that.) How many extra steps you took to make sure the Pokemon was happy, if you even succeeded in treating the Pokemon; all of that determines your rank, and...eventually, the ending you get.

Oh - and digging a little deeper into the where, why, and how of your patient's injury could lead to something special, but you'll have to find that yourself.

Note: this game depicts animal injury and distress in a semi-realistic way.

If you want to talk more about this game, then you can join a (temporary) Discord server dedicated to it. It's a tiny bit barren at the moment since I kind of forgot to maintain it amongst all the stress of the jam game, but here's the invite anyway. If you want to contact me personally - if there's any issues with crediting, if I need to include anything else on this thread, then feel free to reply, and we can continue our conversation in Discord DMs.

Lastly...
This is my first time being a lead dev as opposed to a lead spriter, and while there were a lot of growing pains involved and a lot of mistakes I undoubtedly made, I'm still immensely happy that I could put out a complete story, and thankful for everyone that helped make this happen.
I hope the Last Nurse Joy...brings you joy?

since google being weird. same video.

(on the "get link" the message on google specifically states anyone with the link can view it/download it...
Hm, bizarre, it was definitely telling me I needed access.

Anyways, thanks for including that context, that definitely helps narrow down the problem! If you'd like, I could DM you the right answer on the Extra Mile question, which should let the case progress as normal!

Sure. But it still happens on picking some of the other choices. (Maybe the google vid wasn't finished processing or something)
Happy to see if the case does progress as intended or if still somehow have the bug.

Is there a walkthrough or guide for getting the Extra Miles? I have like 45 points on pikachu, and cannot for the life of me figure it out.

Once I'm done with this section of my new project, maybe I'll put up some dev secrets and walkthroughs?... Tech is right, though, the Extra Mile requires going through an extra sidequest within the main puzzle.

I tried over and over on Zweilous and cannot understand how to get a better score and perfect the case.
I pet both heads and give the hot beverage. I do the blood test. I treat with cone, blanket, and hotpad. I tell her I found out Zweilous has anemia and give her the iron supplements. But I get a score of like 19 and only bronze.

I've gone and tried lots of things trying to raise energy and comfort but little seems to work. I know I once did without the cone of shame, but that also got a terrible score with a bronze rating and the ending without the cone seemed bad so I think I have the right treatment. What could I be missing?

Edit: Well despite getting a bronze on Zweilous, because I got extra mile on the others and still technically got the extra mile answer on Zweilous even if it didn't register as extra mile, I still got the perfect ending so I guess it doesn't mater too much. Nice game.

I really enjoy the game, but I am currently incredibly frustrated with how there is no pause between dialogue and choosing various options. For example, when taking care of the Skitty and Aida is talking about what goes on in the month that follows when taking care of the Skitty, she is speaking about what it could be. Then, as I'm trying to go to the next line of dialogue, it just selects "it must be shock!" without any pause to allow me to register that there is now a choice. Usually, games will have you advance the dialogue, and then the decision box shows up that allows you to make a choice. That way you don't accidentally hit an option when you were just meaning to get to the end of the dialogue. This happens multiple times throughout the game and it is so incredibly frustrating to have to exit the game and then go back through the entire line of dialogue, only to then accidentally select a choice you didn't mean to again. Rinse and repeat.

I love this premise. I work in the medical field, so having my love for Pokemon and my passion for my career combined into one is fantastic! But this one thing is making this game very very frustrating. I would really appreciate it if this one aspect was fixed! Thank you so much.

Actually, I would really like that.

Got the perfect score on the Skitty. Also, I think a few people forgot the typewriter is next to the gauzes
You do have to keep it in the center and if you want the extra mile. You have to be careful with the month that follows.

I've tried playing the game, and it's likely from a lack of knowledge/experience, but I keep getting this error message. I've unzipped the main game and resource pack, but haven't done anything to them further. Does anybody know what's going on?

You don't need to download the resource pack, that's just a separate download of the graphics for people to use in their own game.

Are you sure you've downloaded the most recent version? The backtrace here is pointing to a line that doesn't even use > to compare numbers.

Yeah, I've downloaded the most recent version, 1.7. I'll try redownloading it to see if that helps.

Yep, it works completely fine now. Guess it was just a problem with the download.

I noticed 3 odd things while playing
1- While grabbing Chansey for the Ditto quest to use last resort, there was a duplicate Chansey behind the desk that was unable to be interacted with
2- I watched a walkthrough.. a few times admittedly because I ended up very lost and confused. During the Gothitelle quest I saw the second scene with Z first. I checked the walkthrough/playthrough and they saw a scene with Pikachu. I never saw Pikachus
3- At the end with Chansey, I used the deep wound disinfectant, then bandages, and then another disinfectant. This made no sense to me and I had to check what to do again.

The quests in general (aside from Ditto) felt very aimless and confusing. Especially how we never touched the Vitamin Cabinet and some things were either never used, or used once.

Hey! I can't figure out how to use the x ray machine? It says that Skitty needs to be put on the machine but how do you move her?
