Relic Castle Winter Jam #4

Welcome back to the Relic Castle Winter Game Jam! For a fourth year in a row, winter has settled in (at least in the northern hemisphere) and now it's time to jam! 🎶

For the uninformed: a game jam is an event where developers will get together and make a game. It sounds simple at first glance, but making a good game is much more difficult and time consuming than you might think. Participating in one is a great way to challenge yourself, learn new skills, and polish your overall experience as a game developer.

With eight summer game jams and three of the winter variety, game jams are a tradition for us on Relic Castle! Welcome to the newcomers, and welcome back to the returning game devs! I'm already excited to play through your entries! If you're interested in seeing what previous entrants have created, check out Fox's archive thread.

The fan game community has space for everyone, including you! Be proud of your hard work, but don't push yourself too hard! Overworking isn't fun and just leads to the jam scorching. Take breaks and keep a good sleep schedule! It's okay to have a half-finished game, as long as you've made friends, learned new skills, and most importantly: had fun!

  • Looking to recruit: Spriters
  • Jam Entry Title: Pokémon Outbounds
  • Team Members: Me, @quarterb1nbandit
  • Progress/Screenshots: Check "Attachments"
  • Method of Contact: Discord: Sarubia#5764
  • Timezone: EU
  • Additional Information: In Column A, I will use Alien, Nocturnal, Ominous. And in Column B, I will use Space, City, Cave. The game will be a simple Pokémon adventure, which will eventually turn into a disaster! Because alien Pokémon are coming to invade earth. So eventually you're going to have to go to space to (try) stop them.

Initially, I thought nobody would be interested, but I ended up getting a couple of pms while I was asleep. Thank you for the nice messages! This thread really works, so please don't hesitate to post your own listing and/or get into contact with people!!!

[Volunteering / Recruiting?]

I would like to make a short and sweet story game, preferably without any combat. Focus on visuals, effects, and puzzles.
Honestly, I don't necessarily need to be a team lead, and will happily crunch away doing programming/mapping. Hence I'm both volunteering and recruiting.
There is a heavy preference to using Ulix: Dexflow, no previous experience required. Please get in contact if you would love to use this kit to make a sweet quirky game!

In a team I would love to have one or more people that have a knack for art and/or writing a story. I think I can handle the programming, and a large chunk of mapping.

  • Expertise: Programming, mapping. Lead dev of Ulix (dexflow). Team lead for Don't Go, Pikachu!
  • Examples of Work: https://eeveeexpo.com/dont-go-pikachu/
  • Method of Contact: Discord, find me on the server!
  • Timezone: CET

  • Looking to recruit: Somebody who loves to write stories and/or to draw art for the game.
  • Jam Entry Title: tbd
  • Team Name/Team Members: Sipondo

Method of Contact: Discord: Mega Greninja GR #4949

Additional Information: This will be my first jam so I ask whoever might be interested to be patient with me if I am not that good at Fan-Game making yet. I just hope to have a little bit of fun and learn new things and meet new people along the road :-)

Looking to recruit: A playtester,
[*]Jam Entry Title: Pokémon Househunter,
[*]Team Name/Team Members: Me and two others,
[*]Progress/Screenshots: Haven't started as of posting,
[*]Method of Contact: tilles#8747 on discord,
[*]Timezone: PST,
[*]Additional Information: (This will sound weird): House-playing Eevees try to take over the world.
Found someone

[Volunteering]
  • Expertise: Playtesting. As long as you don't force me to grind. Also can i map in rpgmaker xp, i prefer doing outdoors and cave maps, and prefer making maps no larger than 60x40 tiles in size. As well i can do some basic eventing. (I will not do any dev for you.)
  • Examples of Work: None. As i haven't posted any work or worked on a team.
  • Method of Contact: tilles#8747 on discord.
  • Timezone: PST
  • Additional Information: Do not expect me to be consistent with work. I will do things on my own massive amount of free time, but still it could take upwards of a week for me to get around to work as i am thinking about starting a long term project as well as getting into competitive pokemon. So i would prefer to join a team as a playtester compared to doing some mapping.

  • Expertise: Mapping (I guess?)
  • Examples of Work: https://eeveeexpo.com/threads/5384/
  • Method of Contact: bombastik#1883 on Discord
  • Timezone: Central European Standard Time (GMT+1)
  • Additional Information: I was the lead developer of last Game Jam entry Pokémon Hidden Altars – Harrison Story, I was also a playtester for Pokémon Infinity. I absolutely love mapping with some nice tiles, I also like to edit graphic resources (spriting, editing UI etc.), code basic stuff (like new abilities or moves) and brainstorm ideas. Besides working 8 hours from Monday to Friday, I have a lot of time to devote myself to a project where I can do a little bit of everything.

Edit: already working on a project!

  • Expertise: Writing/worldbuilding, a bit of Essentials scripting, mapping, and spriting but I'm very inexperienced when it comes to those three compared to writing.
  • Examples of Work: Unfortunately none (unless you want to look at my old D&D notes, available upon request), this would be my first project besides some fiddling with essentials.
  • Method of Contact: Discord DMs, KINGU KURIMSON (Not the Boss)#2940
  • Timezone: EST / UTC-5
  • Additional Information: Mostly available on weekday evenings and weekends. Last week of the month will also be a hard nope for me working on much since I'm extremely busy with IRL things then.

  • Looking to recruit: Spriter (Fakemon), Mapper
  • Jam Entry Title: Pokémon Respect
  • Team Name/Team Members: @PokemonRespect
  • Progress/Screenshots: I've got encounter tables, trainers, and boss battles all planned out. PBS is ready for the fakemon I need, I just need sprites for them so the demo isn't placeholders.
  • Method of Contact: DM me
  • Timezone: PST but I work security overnight so expect to catch me at weird hours
  • Additional Information: Fixing to make this a full game, maybe not the size of reborn or rejuv but I mean something big. You don't need to be along for the whole ride but your contributions will be appreciated and credited no matter how far we take it. I've also got what it takes to do the whole thing myself if I need to, so the game's getting made whether you help me or not. But if you help me, the game will be so much more amazing than what I could make alone. Let's make something godlike, fam.

  • (Still) Looking to recruit: Playtesters!!! Mapping, Event Scripting, other positions may be considered
  • Jam Entry Title: pre;Cognition
  • Team Name/Team Members: Myself (Lead, Mapping, Programming, Writing, Music), my non-Relic friends Jenetics (Art, Writing) and Holo (Writing)
  • Progress: Almost done I just have 1 UI left to do, a few storytelling images, and A LOT OF PLAYTESTING.
  • Method of Contact: rainefall#8336 on Discord, ideally, however I will be checking the forums often if you would prefer to DM me here
  • Timezone: UTC+00 (GMT)
  • Additional Info: The game is a a hybrid between a "roguelite" and an exploration puzzler like Outer Wilds, with a time loop functioning as a major gameplay and story element as the player pushes through several areas to reach the ending, learning new things about the world around them with every run. This is certainly one of the more ambitious projects we have ever attempted, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Expertise: Mapping, Writing, Gameplay Balancing, Testing
Examples of work: I did all of the balancing, writing, and organizational work for a fangame I published a demo of a while back called Pokemon Champions. You can check that out here. I'm also responsible for all the writing within the jam game Pokemon Ethos, which you can find here. Below, you can find a collage I did while working on Pokemon Verdigris of my map-making skills developing over my time as a designer.
MapCollage.png
Method of contact: NocTurn#1940 on Discord (I don't log in on mobile so it may be a bit for me to reply)
Timezone: EST
Additional information: I'm mostly looking to map and help iron out plot outlines, writing dialogue if necessary. I'm capable of event programming but I'm extremely rusty and haven't even worked in the most recent essentials version. But I'll make damn sure I find every single bug in the game if you'll let me playtest it. Also, I apologize on my tardiness, and if everyone's slots are already full I don't mind :)
