This game draws inspiration from HELL+GIRL and roguelite games such as Slay The Spire, Hades and Binding of Isaac.

Big big thanks to my teammates - TheDogDad, Saucecoie and Vendily for joining me and taking this game far beyond my initial vision.

Although we had to cut the scope significantly, there's still a fair bit of content here (I mean hey, Sauce designed 100+ battles and 100+ support Pokemon 😅).

We're definitely interested in expanding the game with more stages, artifacts, support pokemon and story, post-jam!

Sorry in advance for the bugs you may encounter. We didn't playtest much since we had to spend a lot of time getting the new gameplay mechanics right.

But anyway, thanks for playing! 😊

The game has been updated to v1.0.2!

This patch has many, many fixes for gameplay-breaking bugs, including one softlock that prevented the player from finishing the game.

However, the game is still buggy. We will be releasing daily bugfix patches for the first few days, so please be patient. Thank you! 🙏

No changelist because there were just way too many bugfixes sorry.

I'm currently hard locked in the deep sea, second mission
I took the pyukumuku partner (purify each end of turn) and the augment that make a pokemon heal if switch out

The first battle I did (after two rooms without battle), that happens :

1691856041754.png

My pokemon faint, turn order is messed, when I try to send out my next pokemon I have this error.
I tried to lead with a new pokemon, same result.

The pokemon against me keep trying to attack but "there is no target..." then selection menu, then this error again and repeat the cycle.

Since I have saved just after entering this room, I may be screwed... ^^"

EDIT : I also tried by defating it, and now it's on the opposite side that it refuses to switch...

Hello! Thank you for the report. This seems to be a bug with the Medicinal Apron. I've fixed it up, but the patch won't be out until later today, so please DM me on Discord if you'd like to get an early patch and continue playing!

Finished ! I enjoyed my playthrough despite some bugs, your team was quick to fix these, thanks a lot :)

My feedback, on spoiler :

I like the roguelite format so it was nice, augment and support pokemon were a very fun way to make every run different and to change the old formula
Having fixed cap for levels are also good
There are a lot of different rooms, with pokemon with their own gimmick and it felt well thought

On the negative side :
  • lite coin having to be redeemed (changed in the last patch I saw)
  • upgrades feeling... not that good, reroll is ok, but others don't have that much impact and I didn't feel like grinding could have help me a lot
  • lack of good moves on pokemon, it was so frustrating and it's part of why I think boss battle can be hard
  • useless items in the shop (macho brace ?)
  • the fact that you can't keep your partner if you take a new one, it's against the idea of accumulating power (but I guess interactions could be very baaad)

On the difficulty, it felt like the hardest part was healing management and bad moveset when opponent have generally good stab move
For reference, I really enjoy difficulty romhack like RadicalRed, Unbound, the like, and I played with support and setup moves. I had to retry some fights a lot because of the moveset, especially move type (like necrozma, if you don't have dark or ghost move, it's gonna be hard). I think for a casual player, it might be really hard for some part.

First part was nice, discovery of a mysterious organization, a little like SCP Foundation, going to fight UltraBeast, back story with 789...
Mid story was ok
End was just the casual villain speech, human are bads, they fight poor ultrabeast to enslave them, things like that... I was a little bad sad that the protagonist don't try to fight back. It just felt poor storytelling because villain victory speech is in my opinion a bad trope, why the fuck would you tell everyone that they are dismissed and were used ? Just dispatch them quietly, for Arceus sake
The end when Necrozma escape was a nice little touch, maybe a part 2 ?

About game graphics and sounds : fantastic, really loved the aestethics, music of the first level was very fun, great job on this part !

A very infuriating thing I've noticed. If you have Vikavolt Support (and it triggers the Sticky Web) + Quick Fang for some reason your own first turn gets skipped. You can select a move and all but the moves never get used.

Could perhaps happen without Quick Fang as well but very very annoying.

Video of it in action:

This is a super an ultra fun and cool game! Thank you guys for making it!

I love hidden secrets, and them getting revealed bit by bit as I progress through the game really keeps me wanting for more! One thing that stood out to me was how the depressing, clinical, cutthroatness of the Lite Squad base was contrasted by the much more upbeat and charming Ultra Beast dungeons... intentional, perhaps? ^^ Honestly, probably unintentionally on your part, I think that the Lite Squad has a certain charm to it too; Commander Black is probably my favorite character even though - or maybe because - he's the kind of asshole you love to hate, and you do kind of miss him when he's replaced by someone who's even more insufferable (I just googled "Chartreuse" and yes, the character does suit the color haha). Of course, the camaraderie and friendship between 789 and 800 shines brighter in all the bleakness. I hope they get the therapy they sorely need in the end... or at the very least, each other.

Other things I liked:
  • The artifacts and support Pokémon! I especially love how the support Pokémon make use of their most distinct traits as their effects e.g. the Meowth line and Pay Day. Though glitchy at times, they really spice up battles, and it's just plain fun coming up with strategies to make the best use of them. Shoutout to Dugtrio support for hitting that timely Fissure exactly when I needed it the most. Additional shoutout to Magikarp support for using Splash at the worst moments possible.
  • The creativity of the rooms and battles makes for a whole lot of fun! The Corsola battle was particularly memorable because of how unique it is to the context of this game and how it's like a shoutout to animals who use corals as camouflage. But my absolute favorite has got to be the ? rooms and discovering what completely out of left field and out of place yet extremely useful event is there in them... I didn't expect to play Voltorb Flip at all ><
  • Irelusk
  • The faint glow that NPCs have when they have new lines... it's a little too faint against the black flooring (or maybe my eyesight is just plain bad), but it's a tiny but nice feature to have.
  • The part before the final Necrozma fight where 789 and Necrozma and the communicator are just shouting over each other, trying to convince you to take their sides! I love the way the scene played out, starting out slow with Necrozma's explanation and just... becoming this full-blown conflict all of a sudden, it was really enjoyable to read/experience.

Some glitches I encountered:
  • Meowth support got confused by opponent's Spinda support and hurt the ally battler when using Pay Day
  • Medicinal Apron activating when the ally battler is still on the field
  • Hattena support doesn't warn anything at all
  • Talking to Shuppet in the Shuppet room twice causes an event error and the game to crash... sometimes? Other times, it works okay
  • Castform support causes Avalugg in the Avalugg battle to keep using Frost Breath without weather activating (with a corresponding error message), to no end
  • "whose" instead of "who's"
1692981319342.png

To me, they're just minor and didn't detract from the overall enjoyability of the game. To come up with and balance 120+ support Pokémon and 30+ stackable artifacts with countless interactions with one another and pre-existing Pokémon moves and abilities is not easy, I don't think! It's a really impressive feat to do all this within the timeframe of the jam!

Thank you for playing and for the great review, Armin!
  • The contrast between the lite hub and the ultra dimensions was definitely unintentional haha
  • I'm very happy you enjoyed the story, it wasn't the main priority since we had to focus on the gameplay. All of the story is done by Saucecoie, who spent only a couple of days writing all of the dialogue!
  • I love Irelusk too, and voltorb flip is the best.
  • I wasn't sure if the faint glow on the NPCs was a good idea, I'm glad you found it useful!
I hope you encountered the Demon Fountain Room! HELL+GIRL was a big inspiration for this game, so I gotta thank you 😆

Also, ULTRALITE has been updated to v1.0.8.
  • Fixed a bug where you could not buy shiny mounts if you didn't have exactly 50 Lite Coins (oops!)
  • Magikarp & Wynaut Supports no longer appear in stage one only runs
  • Added text when Hattena line support don't find any moves to trigger Anticipation
  • Fixed OnSwitchIn supports
  • Nerfed Castform proc chance
  • Moved berries back to the correct pocket again
  • Fixed typos

Really liking this game so far! I'll post my full thoughts when I've finished it. Posting to say I found a very specific bug, if you switch a Pokémon in on the second turn of an opponent using Meteor Beam and your Mr. Mime support activates Copycat that turn, the Pokémon you sent in will be recalled and then sent back out again and your next turn will be skipped
