In this captivating roguelite adventure, you'll dive into the shoes of an Ultra Recon Squad rookie who's just joined the newly formed "Lite Squad." As violent Ultra Beasts have been on the rise, this squad has their sights on restoring the peace in Ultra Space by navigating through its diverse dimensions and overcoming their perils.

This game draws inspiration from HELL+GIRL and roguelite games such as Slay The Spire, Hades and Binding of Isaac.

Big big thanks to my teammates - TheDogDad, Saucecoie and Vendily for joining me and taking this game far beyond my initial vision.

Although we had to cut the scope significantly, there's still a fair bit of content here (I mean hey, Sauce designed 100+ battles and 100+ support Pokemon 😅).

We're definitely interested in expanding the game with more stages, artifacts, support pokemon and story, post-jam!

Sorry in advance for the bugs you may encounter. We didn't playtest much since we had to spend a lot of time getting the new gameplay mechanics right.

some thoughts:
Just finished this today, really fun game! I think you've created a gameplay loop that works fantastically for a pokemon roguelite. And on top of that it had an engaging story to boot! It was fun trying different pokemon with different items with different supports, all really cool. There is a lot to this game.

Looking forward to any further updates, but yeah this was really well done and put together. Big clap on the back to the whole team
 
ULTRALITE has been updated to v1.0.11.

  • Adjusted Gurdurr, Duduo, Mewostic, Gimmighoul, Pancham and Morpeko movesets
  • Nerfed Tinkatuff fight
  • Nerfed Clefable, Persian, Charjabug, Fletchinder Supports
  • Vikavolt Support's Sticky Web does not reduce the opponent's speed on turn 0
  • All music are now looped correctly
  • Fogs no longer overlay characters and make them semi-transparent
  • Support evolution & Xurkitree missions now work properly
  • Fixed Fletchinder Support error
  • Grubbin Support can now actually use bug bite
  • Fixed some pokemon battle sprite sizes
  • Fixed some gem graphics in the mining minigame
  • The final boss overworld graphic no longer shows the wrong form

Hi just finished playing through this game and found it really enjoyable.
When the irelusk evolved it completely took me by surprise for some reason but I was wondering if voltork evolves too and what to?
I finished the game and me being lazy can't be bothered to go all the way through again to check

Voltork evolves into Catastruck. You would've encountered it during the battle against Commander Black.

Finished the game, and wow that was amazing.
I would like a way to have a postgame run where after you beat the desert Necrozma would open a portal and you help free him

I'm stuck in the ultra plant as i only have a klefki and no revives or anything but thats not the problem.
If i let myself die then I go back to the infirmary and the game freezes. Any reason why or am I not meant to be there?
Also it still says I should be hunting necrozma for some reason.

Which exit door are you talking about? The infirmary should still be accessible after the credits.

Sorry for the late reply.
When I black out and return to the infirmary the game flashes white and the screen moves sideways and then the game is just frozen with me standing close to the nurse.

Among those 3 there seem to be a clear hierarchy xD
The electric one has good amount of stages it's good, poipole gets the short end of the stick sadly (my favourite, winning the first area is a matter of second pokemon/support luck since one is immune to him and the other should be easy but still packs heavy hits) and, despide buzzswole supposedly 50% chance, i only got kartana twice so still don't know the match up of the psychic against her, but buzzswole destroy it just by looking at him xD

I'm still having fun and my highest was the lovely houndstone who kept 100% all my pokemon with a move i don't remember (then i had finished my revives)
Also, would be nice to have more randomized things, the meta progress is ok (rerolls are always intersting in roguelikes, healing items are good but sometimes you keep getting berries and no revives or viceversa and money i havent find shops a lot yet)

P.S.
i don't know if it's a bug.
I had fletchinder support, so pluck should have had priority at full health, but relicant attacked first with AP somehow

I agree a lot with the hierarchy of starters ! I think that Voltork is with no doubt the best, not OP but good enough to let you survive. Poipole is good only in Jungle and I felt Irelusk more like an investment that has not really paid off like a Magikarp.

I felt the same thing as you, Rizack about loots. But on my last run I realise "Oh, but what if I save and quit just before I take items ?" - And that's how I won the final run, like a sneaky cheater xD.
But honestly I felt like I can't win with only skill. I needed both skill and lady luck to win.
Still, I think it's better to not let the player do the opportunity to save/restart, for exemple like in Pokemon Emerald Rogue. But If you do that, there's a thing to do about ressources, maybe the player has not enough revives ? Maybe we get KO too easly ?

Yup, some people says that Ultralite is "unbalanced"or "too hard" . I kind of understand what they mean because I really felt like I was fighting with a wooden sword against a man in iron armor, I felt like I didn't have the right tools to defend myself.

But actually... I liked it.... a lot !
Man those sets where so smart and suprising ! Like "Oh, It's a mankey, easy peasy come here for the rewards !" - And he crushed me with Thunderbolt and f*kin Overheat !!!! And I don't talk about the horrible Perish Song team (a living hell) !! Ultrabeasts boss where really welled designed too. No abusive setup or heal, just intense pressure with big moves.
I really liked the sense of survival, tension, the feeling of fighting against godlike monsters and the thinking that the choices you make are extremely important !

For the devs I have some suggestion :
Maybe you should add to the game a "normal" difficulty for people that don't like struggling or more casual players. Like for exemple with getting better pokemon for the player, and better movepool on them (sorry but some of the moves you gave are just useless).
Or maybe more powerful items. I didn't felt like there were items as strong to get you an easy run (like Brimstone or HolyMantle in the binding of Isaac if you get what I mean)
The only items gamebreakers for me are the Lucky Egg and the Last Resort. But holy sh*t how do you got so many good ideas about items and support pokemons !

About my experience about the game, it was honestly magic. It's one of the best pokemon games I've played so far. I've finished the game in 6 hours with about 20 runs. I realy liked the story and mood you had set up in your game. The mystery about ultra recon squad, the lovely graphics and UI hits me.
My favourite part was when you fight your boss. With the music of Ultra Recon Squad and the sick battle I was at absolute climax ! I loved the thing that you are not supposed to fight against your fellow worker, this battle is basicaly no good for both sides. NPC are a really good point in this game !

I really liked your work, I hope my review will help you improve !
I'm rooting for your next games :D

I completed the main story, good game and well executed concept that differentiates itself enough from Emerald Rouge to be unique from it and offer a completely different experience, which is a very impressive feat that cannot be understated. However I will say the very unbalanced encounters, especially in the third area, really stop it from having any replay value which is a key aspect of Roguelikes. For example when I run into the fairy encounter that all have a free +2 Attack from Berserk Gene, are completely immune to confusion and all have physical coverage moves to one shot anything they might be weak against, there is almost nothing you can do about that unless you have a god tier physical wall by sheer luck. The encounters really need reworking and that's about it, otherwise its an extremely solid game.
