Introduction:
Pokémon Spectrum is a fan game being made by myself with Essentials and some other resources. I've been working on this on/off in my spare time since February 2014.

Plot:
You are a person in a little known region, living in the small town of Lildune. However, an opportunity arises and you decide to go explore the region with all its native Pokemon that can't be found in other regions. There is an unknown world out there, with Gyms and Pokemon Trainers just like many other regions, along with myths and lore you must learn about for yourself. Can you catch them all, defeat them all, and rise to the top?

Updating instructions for people who want to keep their save file intact
Ver 1.3.x/1.4.x -> 1.3.x/1.4.x
Save in the middle of the Pokémon Center as shown in the screenshot for Ver 1.2 -> 1.3

Ver 1.2 -> 1.3
Before going to 1.3, do the following in 1.2 first and then save:
-If you are using an outfit other than the default (i.e. the one given from the woman in Sahara City) change it back to the default outfit first. (You can regain this outfit by talking to the woman again after moving to 1.3). This step is only necessary for 1.3.0. Ignore this if going to 1.3.1.
-Open the Pokédex and move the cursor to the first value in the Pokédex list (i.e. Kokoala). This step is only necessary for 1.3.0. Ignore this if going to 1.3.1.
-Make sure you save in this specific spot in a Pokemon Center to prevent passability issues with the map changes.

Ver 1.1 -> 1.2
The first thing to do is to set all the options back to their default settings. Some options in 1.1 don't exist in 1.2, so having contradicting settings will cause an error if you don't change these back.
Second, make sure you save in this specific spot in a Pokemon Center before going to the new version. There are so many map changes everywhere that this is the easiest way to make sure you don't end up stuck when you load up the new version.

That guy is Mr. Compatibility Man. I made him specifically to help solve changes I made between versions. Talk to him to initialize your following Pokémon. Kalahari Gym also gives out a new TM of a new move now, so if you're in Kalahari City, talk to him in the Pokémon Center to exchange your old TM for the new one. I made the event in way so it'll only work for players who beat the Gym before this release.

-Cocombat now learns a signature move called "Coconut Drop" at level 27. It's a physical Grass-type move that has a chance to confuse the opponent. Damage is based on the difference between the user and opponent's weight, similar to Heavy Slam.
-Wallopy learns a new move called "Fisticuff." It's a trapping move akin to Bind.
-Platsplash now learns a new move called "Mind Control." This does the same thing as Foul Play, except it's Psychic-type.
-Pajambaz now learns "Dreamtime" at level 23. This puts the user to sleep for two turns while raising its each of its stats by one stage.
-Pajambaz also learns "Sheep Count" at level 45. This has the same effect and accuracy as Spore except it may affect Grass-types.
-Minore learns Rocky Terrain. Reduces HP of non Rock-type, non airborne Pokemon everywhere on the field by 1/16 and cuts their speed for 5 turns
-Cut is now optionally available to use on any compatible Pokemon other than Aychem. You must get the TM separately from a new NPC hidden in a new area.
-Lowered encounter rate for cave areas
-Thunder Stone now obtainable from a NPC, making two new evolutions available (+ Jolteon)
-Drakeon is now in Gobi Village to get Pokemon Eggs
-Modified night time tinting for better visibility
-Updated music in every map along with most sound effects
-Updated the title screen and the intro leading up to it
-Updated the intro upon starting a new game
-Reduced the shiny rate slightly
-Reduced encounter rate of official Pokemon in wild battles and made them less frequent in Trainer battles.

Wow! Amazing how this fangame evolved and turned from time to time even better! I remember when this game first came out as a work in progress.

So I've played the game for four hours and I'm going to give my thoughts, I only made it to color rock before losing to the rival a second time and giving up.

I love the custom sprite work and the animations of the Pokémon are fantastic, move animations when they exist are also pretty flavorful so the battles are visually interesting! Unfortunately, I don't know precisely what it is but maybe it's the typing's, Pokémon abilities, the Pokémon stats, the growth rates, or perhaps the removal of IV's makes it extremely tedious to level up so you can fight the gym leader, I also experienced a soft-lock in the puzzle with the Larvuzz. I don't know how it happened exactly but once I activated the switch with the trainer standing in the room and sent Larvuzz into his cage the game played the "success" sound but prevented me from moving, so I ended up having to start over completely. (screenshot below)

I also found the amount of trainers between the first city and the second city, combined with the distance you need to walk to heal found me travelling back to the first city after every trainer battle. I don't know if I am just unlucky, or picked bad Pokémon but the experience was not really enjoyable. I think I would have been less frustrated if there was a spot to heal between the ninja house and the forest, but you kind of become stuck there without a way to heal which leads to fainting and losing a ton of money (I think the money loss is 50% but im not sure!). Perhaps it might be beneficial to include a house in the forest where the player can heal. Potions are also 600$, combined with the distance between Pokémon centers, the money loss, and the distance from the first city to the second city, I became stuck in that forest for a long time before I eventually overlevelled enough to just push through it. Then I was met with some more frustration because unless you have a good Pokemon to beat the ninja house, you have to walk all the way back to the first town to heal after each fight (because potions are 600$ and I don't have enough money at this point to afford them).

Now lets say some nice things, the dialogue is interesting to read, and the game itself fits right into the traditional Pokémon vein, it could easily be mistaken for an official game if not for the immense difficulty curve. The art direction and level design are great, and I can really appreciate the inclusion of Aychem (is that how you spell it), it's a unique take on dealing with the HM problem.

The redesign/resprited original Pokémon are fantastically imaginative and breathe a new life and there are some great moments when you recognize the name but the sprite leads you to believe it was a new mon. I think I would play this again in the future if the balance were adjusted so that it was not so grindy, perhaps it is a stylistic choice in the game, but I found it to be a stark difference from the fun-whimsical atmosphere the art, music, and writing seem to suggest. I feel that if I perhaps got some luckier Pokémon or something maybe I could have had a very different experience, because many people in this thread seem to really enjoy the demo! I don't like that I got so frustrated with the trainers and rival battle at color rock I just had to stop playing.

For reference I picked the water starter, the level-up moves are in my opinion really weak, getting water sport and disable while only having scratch and STAB watergun is pretty bad at level 14-15. This leaves you in a really difficult spot because there are very few trainers who have Pokémon the water starter can beat without being overleveled.

I had the dragon lizard which I just funneled all the exp into until I unlocked dragon rage so I could beat the first gym, it took 2 hours of grinding on 4x gamespeed to get him to level 15, I'm not certain if this is by design, but maybe the growth rate for the first evolution could be slightly improved.

I had the starter bird, nothing really to say about that one I think the learnset was fine (I only leveled to 12)

I had the electric nimbus Pokémon, maybe this is a baby pokemon, I found it to be so weak that I just quit using it after 2-3 levels (I caught the thing at level 3 and it would take 6-7 hits with scratch to even kill another level 3 mon), and swap training it was only yielding 13-16 experience points around level 5, so between this thing and my water starter I had a really tough time even beating the preschoolers nimbus at level 7.

I caught the normal/fighting bull which I really liked it was after the first gym that I found him so I didn't get to use him much between there and color rock where I gave up.

I have to apologize for the negative tone of this review but I just closed the game and it's my raw frustration coming through, I really wanted to like the game more because it looks so fantastically designed and thoughtfully developed, but I found the play experience to be very different altogether. I will hope that you will include an easy mode or adjust the early-game balance at a later point so I can try again in the future when you have more development time. It would be very easy for me to just not write this, but I would want someone to write this for me so I took the 20-30 minutes to type this up and reread/edit it so it was constructive, so I really apologize because I hate to leave a negative review on something someone has worked so hard on.

I look forward to continued progress in the project and will watch with interest, thank you for sharing this demo with the community and I hope that my feedback is helpful, I have seriously tried hard to audit and rewrite it so it is tactful and constructive.

In the pokegear, go in the music (or radio?) and play the "poke flute" track while standing right next to the sleeping kid. Normally, this should wake him up.

No the game is still being developped slowly, there are sometimes status updates. IIRC, this project is developped mainly by a single person, hence why there are few updates.

Someone requested a progress update so I'll post an update. The game's still being worked on but I just don't post often. I'm doing one more demo for the 4th gym and after that I'm considering not doing any more releases (that progress the story) until the entire game is finished.

Resprite/redesigns

Menu/mechanical updates
HP type is shown on the summary screen as an extra characteristic, EVs are visible, IVs are effectively removed and every Pokemon's stats are now calculated as if they have 31 IVs, but the characteristic flavor text is kept on the summary screen.

Move animation revamp. Adding completely new animations to the game, that are faster than the default EBS ones and show more information at once so they are nearly the same speed as having animations off.
Hello, it has been a while, can we have another progress update? Looking forward to the next demo
