Notes:
It's random chance that goes into deciding who you face at the Gym. I've done everything I could think of to keep it interesting and avoid repetition, but it may happen once in a while, especially early on. Also, some early-game Trainers get stronger if you leave them be. You can only fight each Trainer once, so make it count!
Finally, there is no barrier between areas. You can access areas containing Pokemon five times your strength straight out the gate!

i would love if there were a few dragons to choose from in the start area because i chose dragon gym and have been struggling the whole time to try and make a team that will work to either learn dragon claw or be a dragon for my gym. or at the least put a bit more variety in the dragon cave

You need to look in the badlands at night for most of the dark types
