Notes:
It's random chance that goes into deciding who you face at the Gym. I've done everything I could think of to keep it interesting and avoid repetition, but it may happen once in a while, especially early on. Also, some early-game Trainers get stronger if you leave them be. You can only fight each Trainer once, so make it count!
Finally, there is no barrier between areas. You can access areas containing Pokemon five times your strength straight out the gate!
Have fun you guys!

Go for the overhaul! The buildings and reputation growth should definitely slow down in the later stages. I played the game already and would easily play again for the longer game. Good luck!

I think option nr 3 is the best solution in my opinion. while it would require more time to develop it would be a chance to improve this already great fangame.

This is co
Hello, everyone! I have a small update on the progress of Pokemon This Gym of Mine. However, there is an issue I need to address regarding the sprite art of one of the regional varients.
So, it has come to my attention that the regional variants for Chinchou and Lanturn have come under scrutiny as of late.
For some players in the community, these sprites are uncomfortably close to certain racial stereotypes associated with Chinese people.
To everyone that did interpret this sprite in this way, please know that this was never my intention.
Regardless of any original intent, I will be making edits to these sprites to distance them from these negative stereotypes. My apologies for not noticing.
For comparison, here is what the sprites look like in comparison to their Johto variants:
View attachment 17175View attachment 17176
View attachment 17177View attachment 17178
The intention behind Umbal Chinchou and Lanturn was to, sort of, be a creepy parallel to their original forms. Umbal Chinchou's eyes, which are meant to be a minus sign to parallel the plus sign in Chinchou's design, is often viewed as slanted eyes, and the creepy smile in both designs is misinterpreted as buckteeth, which is a much more noticeable interpretation in Umbal Chinchou's design.

As for the information relating to v5.0.0, I have run into a major snag in development. To recap, I have been attempting to update this game to Pokemon Essentials v20.1. I knew this would be a bit risky, as Pokemon This Gym of Mine runs on Pokemon Essentials v18.1. And, lo and behold, I ran into an issue. When attempting to load my save, it threw an error after compiling and proceeded to delete my save file... I attempted to run the 20.1 version as a brand new game and it did not throw an error, meaning the issue comes when it tries to load the save.

I know I said that if previous saves were incompatible that I would continue on with version 18.1. However, there are still a number of reasons that I want to update to v20.1 Essentials. So, I decided to ask you guys how I should proceed. At the end of the day, you guys will have to play the game and wait for the update. As such, I want to hear your thoughts. How I see it, there are three ways I can go forward:

1. I can stay with v18.1.
This will require no additional dev time, but glitches such as the weather glitches and level-up glitches will, likely, be permanent issues in the game. In addition, I will lose out on the updated encounter capabilities of v20.1, meaning that any new Pokemon will be limited to newly added areas, and the new Pokemon I add will be limited. In addition, this may cause some Pokemon to be unnecessarily rare, as I cannot directly alter encounter rates in-document.

2. I commit to updating to v20.1, keeping up an updated version of PTGOM 4.0 as a legacy version.
This will require more dev time, but this will deal with glitches such as the weather glitch and the level-up glitch. In addition, this will allow for more robust encounters, potentially balancing out types such as Bug and Steel, which have been reported to be a bit underpowered. Also, I can look into allowing for multiple save files, as doing multiple playthroughs is quite popular in the community so this will make that easier. However, this does mean that this version will NOT be compatible with old save files.

3. I use this as an opportunity to completely overhaul Pokemon This Gym of Mine.
Let's face facts. This game was made 3 years ago, in a rush, and by an amateur game dev. There are a lot of things I had to bandage over just to make the game playable. Even with all the updates, there are still plenty of holes, such as the crazy amount of revenue buildings can generate, the point of reputation and reputation growth not being made clear, some dialogue needing a bit of refinement, and the fact that half of the game's ranks go by over the span of a minute. I could treat this as a chance to truly refine this game. Rebalancing encounters and buildings, giving a reason for ranks 5-7 to exist, amongst other things. In addition, I could look into plugins and resources, such as multiple save files, that could only be added to v20.1. Personally, this would be the route I like to go, but it would add quite a bit of dev time and would not be compatible with old save files. Just like with option 2, the old version of PTGOM will be kept up as a legacy version.

These are the three routes I feel I can go. No matter what, version 5.0.0 content will be included with the update and version 6.0.0 will come some time after. I want to see what you all think, and I am eager to hear your thoughts.

Either way, I hope you all have a nice day.
This is conceptually the best fangame I've ever seen. It's an amazing idea and I'd love to see you take it as far as you can. So option 3 would be my vote. I dont think many people would object to making this game better, even if it meant a loss of a little progress.

This game looks super interesting but I am curious, when I opened it I couldnt full screen or play with controller. Controller compatibility may just not be added but I feel like I'm just missing something in regards to full screen.

Q: What emulator do I use to play this game?

A: This is an RPG Maker fangame, not a ROM hack. You don't need an emulator for Windows systems. For Mac/Android systems, you'd be using WINE or JoiPlay, respectively. (which, technically, aren't emulators, but interpreters, but that's besides the point/not really something I'm personally knowledgeable about)

These are the three routes I feel I can go. No matter what, version 5.0.0 content will be included with the update and version 6.0.0 will come some time after. I want to see what you all think, and I am eager to hear your thoughts.

I feel like an overhaul is a good idea, maybe even adding more features like maybe having more options for starter mons and a randomizer or something... unless that stuff has been added already. I love the concept of this game and I want to see it grow into something amazing, more so then it is already. (like maybe a post game story where you participate in a region wide problem or something idk like how gym leaders sometimes participate in the main story of the game, was just a random suggestion) I must ask though, I feel like there should be a smidge more complex gym system. cuz what trainer wants to go to a town with a gym leader that is known to be unbeatable. I feel like having there be benefits to loosing a gym fight would be good, and maybe a rule you can have where depending on your gym difficulty ranking, depends what level your pokemon can be for fights, like how many fan games have gym leaders scale with the player or try to guestimate what level the player would be at the time of getting to your gym, idk I like the idea of expanding the fantasy of having your own pokemon gym. it's been a bit since I've last played this game so idk how much has changed so I might have just said things that are already planned or implemented already somehow idk, sorry if ya didn't want to go through reading all this but guess you can say this is a show of my hype for this fan game's development

This is a late reply and I'm a new player, but I'd absolutely love to see this re-made from the ground, polished and beautiful. It's already great, though, and I of course understand the players who have put lots of hours into their save files.

I love your game, I played it a lot and it inspired me to make one of my own.
I think an overhaul of the game is the best thing you can do. After you complete the game, there is nothing much to do anyway, so starting a new game is not really a problem. This way, the rebalancing of the mechanics would affect everyone, new and old players. Also, as you say, a lot of things should be polished, and I think this option is the one that lets you do that the most.
I wish you the best of luck and I'm looking forward for the update.

It sounds like you kinda took over the project from someone else, so I think an overhaul could really help to get this game in a place that you want it to be and really make it your own. I don't mind having to wait a bit longer if it means we can get an all encompassing and well thought out gym leader experience.
