Explore the Makya region, where old and new collide. Host to dozens of ancient caves and tunnels, Makya was settled anew by the disbanded members of Team Chasm, who 20 years ago sought the power of the Regis. When a strange new group puts those plans back into motion, the people of Makya need a newcomer like yourself to delve deep and find the truth. Can you keep Makya from repeating its past?

So, finished Tectonic yesterday, had a lot of fun with the game. Everything from gameplay to story was pretty damn good, in my opinion.
Since I want to scream about how good this game is, what is a better way to do that than a forum post.
This will be sectioned off in Chapters accompanied by spoilers so as to not have a huge wall in the middle of the thread.
Let's get the big thing™️ out of the way. I personally think the gameplay of Tectonic is some of the best I've ever seen. This is mainly about the battle related things, but there's a couple of things I want to mention too.
The Pokemon rebalances, mechanics changes and the things done to ease the player into the changes
So, right off the bat, imo the mechanic changes introduced in Tectonic would be comparable, to, say an entirely new generation of Pokemon. Serious there's a lot of changes. The changes were all, for the most part, well thought out and balanced. The only change I didn't quite like was the move power reduction in Sun/Hail but that's mainly because I hate being crippled lmao. The status changes were all superb, and extremely fun to play with. Leech is my favourite status, shoutout to health the Torterra w/ Leech Seed and Root Shelter for absolutely CARRYING most of the legendary avatars. The change of stat stages into 'steps' was neat one, I didn't particularly notice any difference but it didn't worsen the experience, so whatever.
Pokemon rebalances were, fun! Each Pokemon felt unique enough to use and filled a niche that another quite didn't. A very notable example is :) the Absolus with Life Dew who along with health was absolutely goated during the earlier avatars. All rebalances were very fun to play around with, and it was nice seeing some mons get absolutely busted(looking at you, Space Interloper M.Gigalith, and how can I forget, Transcedent Energy Ampharos with Stubbporn and Power Herb capable of soloing entire fights). The decision of changing most megas into evos was one I really enjoyed, and the other megas who are special forms like the aforementioned Amphy were also pretty cool.
Moves and Abilities were, for the most part, fine, both rebalanced and new ones. I enjoy it when abilities are designed to complement a mon's moveset, which Tectonic achieved, quite brilliantly, I might add. Best part about the move rebalances was the fact that now every single type had low/medium/high bp moves with no drawback, something which I feel is sorely missing in canon Pokemon.
Let's talk about the Masterdex and the Battle guides. I fucking loved these mechanics. Tectonic is a game which introduces a lot of changes to the base Pokemon formula, which can make it hard to get into, owing to the fact that one may not be able to remember all these changes right off the bat. Both the Masterdex and Battle Guide made it extremely look up information whenever, wherever. The layout of the Masterdex is also very easily readable, and I love that Move Info is also displayed with everything at once. I can't stress enough how much both of these things bettered the gameplay experience. 10/10 mechanics, would love to see them in other fangames too.
The mechanic of consumables coming back after each fight was very goated. It definitely made running Power Herb Ampharos, Flying Gem Salamence and the likes much easier. another 10/10 mechanic
I can't say much for tribes as I didn't have a team centered around them, but from what I saw of the Pro Trainer fights and the Sang fights they make for pretty interesting strats.
Avatar fights were all cool and designed well. Enjoyed them all. Shoutout to Deoxys avatar for being the easiest avatar fight in the game period. lmaO
Map Design
The maps in Tectonic were pretty fun to explore in, there's a lot of hidden secrets, something which I absolutely adore in a game. Exploring and fighting avatars to find new items is very fun. Tectonic also incorporates one of my favourite aspects of map design ever: having interconnected maps. The rush of serotonin I got from discovering the hidden path to LuxTech Campus from Eleig Stretch was :D
Miscellaneous Shit
  • Although Tectonic didn't have Speed Up, the devs have clearly made effort into speeding up the base game, something which I really appreciate.
  • The ability to skip story entirely if you want is also excellent. I am all for options in RPGs and this was one of my favourite things in the game.
  • Avatar Totems were very cool, Also Pocket Totem is cool.
I'll be honest here. The story is a complete snoozefest until the first Sang fight. It's... just boring, most of the "story" is just text dumps aka your calls with Zain. It fell heavily into 'Telling Not Showing' which I really dislike, I mean, you don't even see your supposed rival for the first time until half of the game is over, I don't like that kind of storytelling.
But it gets better after that, everything moves quickly and in a fun way. Yezera's twist is my favourite main story moment. The other plot points after that are also well done. Also I can appreciate Yezera trying to reset the entire fucking world because of her social anxiety, slay girl.
All in all, decent story, could've been better but honestly I play Tectonic for the gameplay not story, the two did good enough job of complementing each other and that's what needed the most.
But, the place where I really feel the story shines the most, is the recurring sidequests. I enjoyed going through every single one of them because, the dialogue is just SO well written. All of them are unique and funny in their own ways and I just love them so much. My fav three characs were Skyler the rizz god 😳, Candy the Social Justice Warrior and Imogene Duo aka Mew n Ditto. I especially loved Imogene, something about her story just, striked within me and resonated. It hit all the right boxes of what I consider to be a mixture of lovely, hopeful and sad. I can go on for hours and hours about how I much I love her character, both of "her" delusions about being a real human and so, much, more.
Tectonic was a wonderful game. It is a game made with love and care. I appreciate that so much. I cannot express enough just how much I enjoyed the damn experience. Everything from the story to gameplay to maps was a lot of fun to play through. So much care has been put in to ensure a smooth gameplay experience. I love that. I was skeptical before playing but after playing I can safely say that Tectonic has been shoved into my Top 5 fangames and romhacks. I'm very interested in seeing where the game goes from here, and all the best to the devs for their future endeavours.
All mons used in each gym fight, the champion and Story Finale, in order

Details Galore The final layer of polish on Tectonic will take place within homes and buildings across Makya. That's right--interactable objects! Click on bookshelves, televisions, trash cans -- and every other kind of clutter -- to learn bits of backstory, hear a joke, or even receive an item!

A Fantasy Island 3 secret islands will be newly available in 3.0. These include the Isle of Dragons, a location that is unlocked in a unique way. Don't be deceived by its calming clime--the island is home to some very important Pokémon!

A Land on the Brink

The 2nd of the secret islands coming on 3.0 is Eventide Isle, a land of permanent dusk. Stories of this haunted place are rare, but terrible. You'll need the help of a former Makyan champion to take on the evil which looms over this darkened land...

We Need Your Thoughts
As we approach the 3.0 release, we want to shore up the balance and design of the over 1000 species available in Tectonic. To do this, we need ~DATA~! For that reason we are now presenting a new survey. Please fill it out if you can!
Survey Link

Slumbering Dragons
3.0 will launch with a handful of new regional forms, which we'll be showcasing across the next couple of dev bulletins. For our first, feast your eyes on the vewwy sweeeepy dwagons... Makyan Munna and Makyan Musharna!

I started the survey, but cleared it and closed it since I don't know how well my feedback would translate into the structure you laid out, especially on the balance of specific mons. I think you all did a great job rebalancing everything. The only mon that stood out as "unbalanced" to me was getting Marshadow. I think this has to do with the mon already being excellent which is exacerbated by all of the pseudos dropping down. Oh and now that I do think about it, the nerfing of Tyranitar makes it very unattractive as it loses base stats, and sandstream but keeps its horrible defensive typing. That said, I love what you did with Goodra! So, puts and takes.

I think some of the type chart changes require getting used to. The most notable instance of this occurred early on for me with Lucario; having Psychic go from neutral to 4x against the mon changes a lot about how you can (and can't) use it. I don't think anything needs to change, but I can see people getting frustrated by these changes since the chart is sacred to a lot of people. Probably less so in fangames since adding new types and making tweaks is not unheard of.

I didn't really like the story. I thought it went from 0 to 100 so quickly. Maybe there was more subtext I missed, quests I might have skipped, or something else entirely. I won't spoil it, and I did stop playing right at Regigigas so that I have something more to see once the full release comes out, so entirely possible I missed a big piece of info that would change my mind. Also, just because I didn't like it doesn't it is bad! E.g. I see someone in the comments above loved it. Not everything is for everyone, stuff would be so boring if it was!

I think what I love most about this game is the variety, and that you can do a lot of quick re-tooling of your team compositions without having to grind incessantly to get everyone back on the same level, EV/IV, nature, etc. I missed the natures at first and thought the update to EV spreads was too thin in nature, but as I continued to play it didn't bother me one bit. Add in the approach to status conditions, abilities, move changes, typings, regional forms, etc. and you have a lot to learn about and implement to get the most out of the game, something that I truly love. I don't just want to smash A and win.

I am looking forward to your next full release!

The Hits Just Keep Comin'
There are certain playstyles that GameFreak is content to leave exclusive to Physical or Special Pokémon. If we're to maximize diversity, we have to break these barriers! Therefore in 3.0 we'll be introducing 5 new special multi-hit moves to create playstyles with Skill Link, Loaded Dice, on-hit activation abilities, and the like, on specially attacking Pokémon. Just be sure not to use them against a Hi-Vis Jacket!

Smarter Every Day
In the process of working on some super-secret post-game battles, we've been inspired towards major upgrades in the AI. Enemy trainers should now be much better at understanding how much threat their Pokémon are facing, especially when deciding who to switch into. They'll be much less likely to just switch in a 'mon that instantly dies to something they should have seen coming. That said, the AI can't account for what it doesn't know. Barring basic STAB attacks, enemy trainers must see your moves in action before it accounts for them in their decision-making.

Español, Por Favor
The Spanish translation of Pokémon Tectonic is 90+ percent complete! Big thanks to Valrex for his work on this. We're experiencing some technical issues with getting the entirety of the translation to function in-game, but we expect to have those solved either with 3.0 or within the next few weeks after its release.

Denizens of the Deep Our second regional forms showcase for 3.0 is a line that has male and female variants, a first for Pokémon Tectonic! Shoutout to Drawingbox who did both the designs and the spritework for these.

Honestly this looks amazing. Love the fact when reading it states people can make their own mods and stuff. Would be amazing to see a battle tower or something similar. I love getting into these games and having fun random post game battles with my teams :)

Tectonic 3.0 will launch October 20th.

Monumental
"Post-game challenges!", the masses demanded. And we have listened: Look upon the Battle Monument, ye players, and despair! The Battle Monument is a post-game location where you can fight gauntlets of 5 randomly selected trainers. Battles here involve a full team of 6 Pokémon, with legendary Pokémon prohibited from use. Over 60 enemy teams have been carefully handcrafted by @Darlvon to push you to the limits of your strategic ability. Many of these teams are based on the ones submitted by Player Survey respondents! A full suite of rewards has been prepared for those who prove themselves at the Battle Monument. Look forward to future bulletins for further details!

The Healing Process
Consumable healing items have to do a lot to justify themselves against the Aid Kit. Therefore, in 3.0 we're making these tweaks:
  • All "potions" will be able to heal 'mons even when fainted (Revives are cut)
  • Moo-Moo Milks will fully heal both HP and status, and will be purchasable from vending machines
  • Some food items will gain unique effects when they heal a Pokémon
  • Increased the healing (and cost) of Soda Pop and Lemonade
What's Old Is New
Our stance on including Generation 9 Pokémon is clear: Not gonna happen. But...…. can't we have just a little gen 9, as a treat? Sure! 3.0 will treat you all to generation 9's evolutions for older mons: Annihilape, Dudunsparce, Farigiraf, and Kingambit!

Leftover Topics
Based on feedback, we're making some changes to how leftovers are acquired:
  • Wild Munchlax no longer have Leftovers
  • 1 leftovers can be looted in an early-game town
  • Leftovers, and other held items at East-End-Exclusives, have been moved to a new shop in the Tournament Grounds
  • A new item inspired by leftovers will also be added to the game
2023-09-24_07_19_23.317.png

PC Upgrades
Thanks to Jbsundown, we've adding some new Quality of Life improvements to Pokémon Storage:
  • You can now search your PC for a Pokémon based on nickname, species, or type
  • You can now sort a box, or the entire PC, by nickname, species name, dex number, type, or level
    • You can also mark boxes to protect them from full PC sorting
More sorting/searching options may be added in the future.
