Game description:

Welcome to the Pacatus region, a small island known for its diverse environments, cosy towns and friendly citizens. You and your childhood friends, twins Xavier and Vivian, just accepted Professor Selina Parsley’s invitation to help her as field research assistants. Thanks to this, you will get your first Pokémon and have the opportunity to explore the wonders of Pacatus. Along the way, you'll meet numerous people, capture many Pokémon, challenge skilled Gym Leaders, and continually evolve as a trainer.

Pacatus was a peaceful region for centuries, but recently dark clouds started to loom over it. Will you rise to the challenge, and put an end to the evil Team Epialtes’ (Eh-Pee-Ahl-Tees) schemes?

We attempted to create a game that is quite simple and resembles a standard Pokémon experience, yet simultaneously we wanted it to be a little different and engaging. The story has a mysterious feeling, but is not edgy. Difficulty-wise, we tried to make the game challenging, but not nightmarish - you can definitely try to Nuzlocke it, but if you only want to see cool fakemon and sweep through the story it is also possible!

‼️If you already played the demo, do not continue your save! We didn't only expand the game, but we changed quite a lot at the beginning as well, so it's best if you start again.‼️
Features and plugins:
  • around 15 hours of gameplay,
  • hand-picked Pokédex with almost 300 official Pokémon from all generations,
  • 23 new regional variant lines and 1 fakemon evolution (all of them also have new signature moves!),
  • 7 new mega evolutions,
  • refreshed UI graphics,
  • custom trainer sprites,
  • single and double battles,
  • improved battle AI,
  • toggleble level caps (although we recommend leaving them on),
  • relearning moves in summary menu (you can also forget HM moves!),
  • speed up button (Q),
  • checking stats and other stuff in battles (press M or N button in after clicking "Fight" in the battle menu),
  • encounter list plugin,
  • advanced Pokédex plugin,
  • EXP all (although not from the start).

  • sometimes the game crashes right after saving (fortunately it doesn't corrupt the save),
  • sometimes the game crashes after using HM Fly and Sweet Scent in the overworld,
  • sometimes there is a weird bug where the game loads up Johto Pokédex instead of Pacatus Pokédex, but restarting the game fixes it,
  • there is an error that pops up every time the opponent with an ability that changes Normal-type moves to other type (e.g. Pixilate) uses a Normal-type move on Ghost-type Pokémon (fortunately it doesn't break the game, just prevents the opponent from attacking that turn).

That title screen came out really nice! I also love the attention to detail by keeping the red color scheme in the battle and dex UI! (and the load UI, which is so often overlooked!)

I feel like this game actually leans into the Gen 3 aesthetic, like it's a choice rather than just "we work with FRLG because it's what assets we have", and it works out really nicely! Keeping the music in that same era is a great touch, too! Of course, there's also touches that are more like later gens that still blended nicely, like the color-coded names and overworld mons!

I really love the designs of the PMCs and route tunnels, it helps give the region a distinct identity, and they came out really nice!

It's very minor, but I appreciate the Fructus Forest tree being permanently cut, haha.
The font for "Nightmare" on the title screen seems too simple... I'm no graphic designer, so I don't know that I'll be able to pinpoint what's bothering me about it, but it seems at odds with everything else.

The intro monologue is a little too basic IMO - I honestly thought it was just copy+pasted from the original Oak monologue until I looked it up. Most people who find Pokemon fangames are already familiar with the basic premise of Pokemon, and in-universe, it's even stranger for the professor to tell the player what Pokemon are when they've grown up surrounded by them all their life. I think information like what the region is like, what unique Pokemon can be found, and the professor's research goals would make more sense to include, and they'd show the player what's unique about this game. This would also be a great time to show off an alternate form instead of just the standard Marill.

Parsley and the player character seem way too high on the base in the intro.

Since the player is railroaded directly to the lab anyways, I don't really see the point in making them manually walk instead of just having them walk as part of the cutscene.

It's not really explained how the trainers' journey is connected to Parsley's research on dreams - it kinda seems like it's done just to fit the standard Pokemon tropes.

With everything sticking to Gen 3's aesthetic, it seems a little odd that the player backsprite is in Gen 5's style, especially when the rivals' sprites are in Gen 4's style. (Related, I think it'd be good to change the Gotcha! ME to the FRLG one.)

I'm pretty sure the dark green around that tree is supposed to be a shadow cast over grass, so it looks odd being put on top of soil like that.

These NPCs don't have dark outlines like everyone else, which looks a bit odd.

There's nothing in-game that mentions the level caps can be toggled in options - if you're going to stick with making them optional, I think you should mention it in-game.

The game feels really lacking in flavor text - there's nothing when you interact with the environment, and a lot of the trainers are just some variation of "Battle me!" "Wow, you're good!" It seems to get a little worse as the game goes on - three NPCs in Merco City say something is “so exciting”, and all the NPCs in the 3rd gym just repeat dialogue. (It seemed like there weren't as many hidden items, either, when the starting town seemed to offer a lot when exploring, but that might just be me not finding items/not noticing them as much)

Since the first gym is Poison-type, I think it'd be good to highlight that the shop sells Cheri Berries. (maybe even have Felina give them instead of Oran Berries?) There's no other place to get an item that can heal poisoning, unless I'm just forgetting something.

There's really no need to require the player to put Ditto at the front of the party for the sidequest - you can just use pbChooseAblePokemon and include a condition that checks the species. (In the default maps' Pokemon Fan Club, there's a girl who asks for a female Dragonair)


Nox just had the standard battle intro and theme? I imagine that was just an issue of time, but figured I'd mention it anyways.

Your resource pack is just all the game assets? So the credits for the pack are definitely off - you've only listed your team members, but you've got resources made from other people in there. (Like, Voltseon's Pause Menu is in the pack, but Voltseon's not listed in the credits) It makes it harder to see what was created for Nightmare specifically, too - I was going to use it to see all the regional forms, but I can't really do that if it's just the whole pack of sprites.

This is extremely nitpicky, but I feel like some of these screenshots are pretty weak at advertising the game.

This one is mostly just official assets, save for the battle UI - which is different, and does look nice, but it's also a public asset, so people more involved in the fangame community might recognize it from elsewhere.

Same here - none of these Poke Balls are new, and Marshtomp is a canon mon. The UI is nice, but it's DiegoWT's, so it's not exclusive to this game, either.

The background looks nice, but the overall UI is still pretty similar to the default UI, and it only shows canon mons.

I'm not saying that you should discard any of these UI - like I said, I like how it keeps the title's color scheme across the UI - but these aren't showing what's unique about this game. There's not a single Fakemon or new character in any of these screencaps, and you have several!

There's no night version of the field battleback, so battles seem to take place in the daytime while the overworld is at night.

Route 2 doesn't have any music set for it. (The music will still carry over if the player moves from another location, but if they load and save on Route 2, it'll be silent)

Wow thanks for the detailed feedback we are thank you for the effort, we have fixed lot of issues and UI related things and others in Full version, 😅 we are in rush so we just release the demo version without polishing, hope you will play our release version soon.

Microsoft Defender reports that this contains a trojan.

This might just be a false positive due to the RAR file, but you might want to find a way to distribute this that doesn't get flagged as malware.

I really liked the game and i just got to the demo end and i just evolved all possible evolutions up until the lvl cap and i must say!
you all did a good job on the regionals so far i love it

Cant wait for the next release! :)

Thank you! We are glad you liked it. I'm also delighted to say we've been working hard on updating the game and full-release is coming, but I can't say the exact date at the moment. Stay tuned!

As soon as Volsey made a video of this game, I immediately went and downloaded this game myself to play along. I would have to say, that this game is amazing!!
I can't wait for the new completed version! I have so many questions, for example, what I noticed in this game, was that the night and day cycle was short. Is it due to the influence of the mascot of the title? Why are your rivals so obsessed with power and impatient? I can't wait to discover the character development between our rivals! I feel that our character is the most balanced of the group.
The icing on the game has to be the new forms of previous Pokemon. I can't believe that Gamefreak has not even begun thinking about some of these designs yet. Maybe they should hire you and your group for designs 😉

Finally, below is a screenshot of my team so far... I wonder, are we allowed to transfer the demo to the completed game? Please keep up the good work!!

According to this plugin we implemented, all new abilities etc. should work. We didn't notice any problems with it while playtesting.

We didn't change the HM mechanics yet, but will definitely brainstorm about it! Remember that you can delete HM moves at any time and I hope that thanks to that it isn't much of a problem to use them "old style" in our game 😎
