Explore the region of Prism Outpost in a new adventure! A region with ties to the lore of both Sinnoh and Alola, its human population is rather sparse, but its Pokémon variety is quite impressive. There are even some forms you won't find in other regions...
After waking up in a strange crater outside of the house of a young researcher, the two of you set off on a journey, uncovering mysteries of the region along the way. You eventually discover that there was more to his past, and to the region, than initially met the eye. What is with the strange glowing Pokémon? What is Neo Aether? What is the lore behind Prism Outpost?

Some features!
  • New story and region!
  • Regional dex of 400 Pokémon!
  • All Pokémon, moves, and abilities up to the Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC are implemented in the game, plus a little bit from Pokémon Legends: Arceus!
  • 40+ new regional forms!
  • Some Pokémon, moves, and abilities have been altered/rebalanced (some i just buffed bc i like them lol)
  • I went through and manually revised every single Pokémon's level up moveset (at least the ones in the regional dex), so none of them should be stupid like in mainline.
  • Freeze has been changed to be mechanically similar to PLA's Frostbite (i'd have renamed it but i'm lazy and i already added an ability called frostbite)
  • New mechanic involving the unusual Aether Burst forms and the mysterious Light type (trust me I did not just throw it in as an arbitrary fakemon type it's actually important)
  • Mega Evolution is in the game (didn't add Z moves maingame since they're more annoying to balance), and Gigantamax Pokémon have been reworked into "G-Mega Evolutions"
  • Plenty of sidequests, including sidequests for each Gym Leader!
  • Following Pokémon! (you guys like that right?)
  • Cool soundtrack (from other games but it does go hard)
  • Future updates coming soon containing things like difficulty settings and postgame content!
What is this game like? (I got bored one night and wrote a wall of text)
Gameplay:
If you're playing this game I'm to assume you're a Pokémon veteran and know how the flow of the games works. This is just kind of meant to be a game that's easy to get into and still feel familiar while providing a bit of a challenge that the increasingly dumbed down official games are noticeably failing to provide. If you thought Black 2/White 2 Challenge Mode and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon were a refreshing challenge, and are looking for something a step or two above that, you'll probably enjoy this game. I wanted to try to experiment with teambuilding and strategies in a way both the official games and the ultra-tryhard difficulty uberspam games have not. This is not a competitive-focused game, however, and if sheer competitive difficulty like RadRed is more your style, this game probably isn't for you.
It is the kind of game that would be pretty fun to nuzlocke, though :)
Although my experience with fangames is minimal and I'm not an excellent coder, I did try to find ways to add quality-of-life features into the game. Many rare items that are valuable for proper teambuilding (such as Vitamins and TMs/TRs or Evolution Stones/other items) are directly buyable in various shops set up throughout the game, with some prices being adjusted. In addition, I tried my hardest to make grinding unnecessary without making overleveling something the player would have to actively avoid doing (cough cough Gen 6 Exp Share). I left HMs in the game for story progression reasons, but I buffed the HM moves themselves to be more than a wasted move slot (Rock Smash is now 60 BP instead of 40 for example, and is no longer mandatory once it starts falling off in usefulness).
Several Pokémon and moves have been buffed or rebalanced to give more species a chance. A lot of underrated and underused Pokémon are held back by bad stats, shallow movepools, or not very useful abilities, so I've put some consideration into how to make them better.
Mega Evolutions were a pain in the ass to balance. I eventually settled for making the stat boost scale based on the specific mega. The BST boost is no longer a universal +100.
The only type change for a vanilla Pokémon I made (besides changing the Alola Light Trio to Light-type) was turning Mega Banette from pure Ghost to Ghost/Normal. I hope that's okay. It always bothered me. The type chart was very slightly adjusted though. Mostly just adding or removing a handful of resistances for the sake of improving underpowered types.
Additionally, at least 6 new abilities have been added, mostly to fill interesting roles existing abilities haven't filled, and a few other abilities were changed a bit, and a handful of moves were adjusted (Wild Charge doesn't suck anymore???)
TL;DR It's a step above the official games in terms of difficulty, and some steps were made to attempt to streamline gameplay, mitigate grinding, and balance the pocket monsters themselves.

CREDITS!
Most of the game was made by me (catchneko) and I was the only person who directly worked on the project but there were many assets and plugins that were made by other people who were not directly involved

Credits (There may be some assets made by other people I may forget to list here. Please check the credit.txt file included with the game and let me know I didn't put them here before assuming malicious intent. Also, if something here was made by you and you'd rather I not use it, please let me know and I'll have it removed by the next update and replaced by something else.)

Current version: Beta v0.11.1
Please report all bugs and issues in either this thread or the #suggestions-and-bugs channel of the Discord!
The game is not yet completed and because it's a solo project, I will miss things, so community feedback is important.

Passwords for Kurisu's Computer:
yumcandy: Gives the player 900 Rare Candies; can be repeated
amogus: Gives a shiny gift Foongus
debug: Enables Debug Mode. Have fun, but use at your own risk as you could possibly mess up game data with it

Well, today's March 31st, the planned release day of the game, but as expected it's still not finished. I don't want to rush this game for the sake of meeting an arbitrary deadline I myself set, but the game is close to being finished and I've put over a year's worth of time and effort into it.

This is a solo project with only one person working directly on it, so it is going to take a long time, especially with my real-life responsibilities.

If you want a progress report:
  • The main story is completely playable and working up to a plot segment right after Gym 8.
  • Of the 400 Pokémon that are in the game's regional Pokédex, 232 of them have revised stats and level-up movesets. (I'm a nerd and I take balancing very seriously, until I find a Pokémon I like and make it obnoxiously broken to be funny)
  • 3 of the 8 Gym Leaders have finished sidequests.
  • 29 of the 47 new regional forms have completely finished sprites (most of them still need overworld follower sprites and that's it)
  • As for human character sprites, only the E4 and one more plot character needs them for now.
  • I only need to map a few more late-game locations, Victory Road, and the Pokémon League.

On top of that there are still minor issues and bugs I need to iron out, such as cutscenes/events being weird, certain mapping errors that went unnoticed, and the game crashing under some specific circumstances (such as a big one caused by the v19 version of the Following Pokémon plugin that crashes the game if you use certain HMs (I know Fly triggers it) with the Pokémon currently following you). Overall though, I think the game is at least 80-90% finished and will be released... eventually.

TL;DR It's a step above the official games in terms of difficulty, and some steps were made to attempt to streamline gameplay, mitigate grinding, and balance the pocket monsters themselves.

Narrative:
It's not hard to make a "dark" Pokémon game. The official games are aggressively family-friendly for the most part, and topics such as death and violence are not touched upon often or in detail. I see a lot of people trying to make the darkest, grittiest, and most violent and "mature" fangames they can but I'm not trying to do that. I don't think maturity is measured necessarily by how dark and shocking and violent a piece of media is, and in a lot of ways many attempts at telling a "mature" story backfire and come off as edgy and immature instead.
This game is overall pretty PG-13. Yeah, there's death and violence in it, but I'm only including it to better tell the story I have in mind, and sparingly at that. The language is pretty tame, words like "damn" and "hell" are the worst you'll probably see. I'm not throwing in slurs, violent murder scenes, or child trafficking sidequests for shock value. I'm here to collect Pokémon, not trigger warnings.
I genuinely tried my best to write a story that fits with Pokémon. It is an inherently unrealistic series so I didn't hold myself to realism when designing the region or the cast.
I'd assume once you meet the pink-haired elf witch who runs the fairy gym that that would become apparent.
I had fun writing the story. It ended up how it ended up content-wise, it's not meant to be edgy and the tone is pretty consistent with the kind of JRPG anime-type stuff Pokémon works well with.

I don't have any cool trailers or anything so maybe these screenshots will do lol

Anyway the game is still a WIP and it probably will release sometime by early-mid 2023. I hope people play it I spent a lot of time and effort on this

Shoutout to Nuzcord and the Relic Castle server btw! :)

https://twitter.com/Pokemon_Photon <-- Follow this for updates!!

This game sounds epic keep up the good work I'm also kinda curious about the games starters as well I wonder if they are regional variants too.

It's just Snivy/Fennekin/Piplup. They aren't regional forms because I couldn't really come up with anything good for them.

Hello everyone,

I've decided the upcoming 0.10 update is going to be an open beta, so the game will be released to the public for the first time.
In the meantime, I've opened the Discord server, in case anyone wishes to join --> https://discord.gg/jrk6ws6tct

The game is not quite finished, but it's approaching a state that I can show to the public confidently, and I need some more people to help me detect any bugs or errors I've overlooked.

I have finally released 0.10! Please play it, I worked very hard on it, and join the Discord if you want!
This isn't the final release of the game, but I wanted community feedback, so that's why I did this.

Looks great! I have a few chapters to go in Vanguard but will start this right after. A few QQs:

- Read your game synopsis and you allude to specific rebalancing efforts, ability changes, etc. Is there a list of these changes somewhere, or is it just in the individual files in the PBS folder that is in most downloads?

- Is there a level cap?

- Did you change the shiny odds?

- You also mentioned a new typing and that you rebalanced the chart a bit. Is that something you shared in the download or somewhere else?

Thanks in advance!

Oh yeah, I do need to finish/include the documentation. The current stats can all be found in the PBS files, but the changes specifically will be included in the docs once I finish them.
- Here's the ability changes:

  • Here are the level up sets: [LINK TO SPREADSHEET]
  • The stat changes aren't in an easy-to-read format yet, but I'll post them here when they are.
  • The type chart changes are explained by an NPC, but here they are here as well (the Light type matchups picture is right there in the game's folder as well):

LIGHT TYPE MATCHUPS.png

  • There are no hardcoded level caps, but if you want to self-impose them, the level caps for the gyms are 14/23/27/32/39/47/55/61 (the E4 isn't finished yet, the current version ends at the entrance to Victory Road)
  • The shiny odds are 1/1024

Wow, thanks for responding so quick! This will help out for sure, I'll let you know what I think once I get far enough to give constructive feedback.

And no worries on the stat changes, if the stats are in the pokemon file in the PBS, that'll do!

Started your game; put a female prism Chespin in the daycare and the egg that hatched came out as a regular Chespin. Just wanted to let you know in case this wasn't intentional. Some games I've played let eggs produce both forms randomly (e.g. Grimers can be regular or alolan).

Having fun so far, no other bugs or things to report.

EDIT: All 5 chespin eggs I hatched are the normal grass type variant, so I am guessing it is a bug (I could be wrong tho and just be unlucky!). That said this does seem like an interesting way to get normal versions into your game but I am just gonna reload an older save and go from there as I don't think this was intentional. :-)

Hmm, that isn't intended to happen. I didn't really test breeding, so some quirks can occur. I had simply assumed it would inherit the form but I could take a look at it.

No worries! Yeah they all turned out the normal grass type. I bred the original with a male Braixen and then a few with a male grass Chespin if that helps the data collection on your end.

How far does the gameplay take you and is there a speed up button?
The current version has most of the complete game, and ends at the entrance to Victory Road.
There is no speedup button, but the game isn't particularly slow-paced or anything.

Enjoying the game thus far! Starts off like a standard pokemon game, the story doesn't start picking up until gym 5-6 in terms of progression.

I like that you have access to a lot of things as the game goes, some a lot earlier than others. Like why put the mints, capsules, a hyper training at the literal end of the game when you don't even need them anymore? Love that most of these things are available before gym 4, and the EV training and power items are also available I think around gym 3.

I ran into a progress bug after beating gym 7. The game just doesn't move forward. It doesn't crash, it just "hangs"...I am guessing awaiting a dialogue prompt or something. Regardless, I can't move, interact, open a menu, etc. I re-loaded a save and got the same issue so it wasn't a one time thing. See attached. Hoping you can take a look.

Also feel a bit silly reporting the breeding bug given that breeding is totally unnecessary in this game, lol. But I did test it with magikarps to see if I could replicate the bug and yeah you get kanto magikarps if you breed 2 prism ones together. Anyways, here is the screenshot of what I mentioned above:

Hmm. I haven't seen anybody else run into the issue in the Draconis Gym. There were 2 people in the Discord who have been streaming their playthroughs and they both got past that part without any softlocks or issues, so it seems unique to your playthrough and I'm not sure what could have caused it. Can you give more details on when exactly it happened? Like after what line, etc so I could try to replicate it myself and figure out the problem?

Edit: I wasn't able to figure out or replicate the issue, but there were 2 more issues that I found (and fixed) that were pretty big as a result of you pointing out this problem

Edit 2: I found the issue! I'm implementing a fix for it now.
