So I've been waiting for this game and I just was able to be able to download it and I didn't watch your streams to avoid spoilers, I got a shiny starter, the form changing thing, is this always guaranteed or am I just crazy lucky?
Did you go inside the rivals house before hand? If you did, the shiny chances go up to 1 out of 30, if you didnt, then yes, that would be some crazy luck!

A new update is now available for download! Version 0.3 includes the following changes:
  • Increased shiny odds
  • Enabled the Speed Up toggle, activated with the Alt key
  • Fixed an issue where teleport could not be used indoors
  • Added teleport locations to all Pokemon Centers
  • Fixed an issue with scaled evolutions not learning new moves
  • Made EV/IV info enabled by default in the Summary Screen
  • Added the National Dex. Beat Cypress in battle to unlock!
  • Dusk Balls now increase capture odds in caves

Just completed Chapter 1 in the Quantech Branch! I'm having an absolute blast with the game so far!
  • Arenay is such a delight I love the squishy child
  • Yessss running shoes from the start!
  • There's so much nice little polish, in the arrows for entrances/exits, the location name pictures, the animations before battles- I know most of these are pre-existing resources that weren't made for splice, but I think seeking them out to make the game in top shape really shows!
  • I know it's small bits of dialogue, but I really love that the player's Mom is a loved family member with a relationship to the main character, not just a useful NPC!
  • I love Adorabull! I was in dire need of a baby calf prevo for the cows!
  • Lappy, Marbolt, Heracute, and Wingot are super cute, too!
  • A Pokemon Egg in this trying time fkhasslhfakl
  • I love the concept of the Gale Flute! (Am I right in thinking it's a reference to the Warp Whistle of SMB3?)
  • Quantech Co and the Biogress Foundation are both really cool!
So, I don't think this is at all a problem, but just in case you didn't want it to be that way: It is entirely possible to get 25 species and the Psychic Cellulose before getting to your next town, and to get 50 Pokemon and the Ice Cellulose before completing the first mission. Of course, this takes a good deal of exploration/catching before you can get there, and it's not at all game-breaking, so to me it just felt like a great reward for putting in the work! I just mentioned it just in case you wanted to hold the Cellulose off a bit!

Metronome can call the Cell- moves as well- I know it's usually barred from calling sig moves, so just a heads up if you'd like to block them!

I don't know if this is on purpose, but since the player's PC can't withdraw or deposit Pokemon, the player can't make any empty spaces in their party until they get to one of the towns, which can be a problem for receiving the egg or Larvitar.
I love the dialogue portraits, but they seem a bit too big. When you're talking with your mom, for example, the player's arm kind of covers up her overworld sprite, which is a little awkward when overworld animations are still a thing.

I tried a little mockup of the dialogue with portraits at 75% their size, and that looked pretty good to me? But I don't know how well it'd work since 75% might lead to irregular sizes. (And 50% is way too small)
862d589c12e716c063cf168a43a24f7465ff0d55.png

I noticed the red of the rival's Poke Ball in his trainer sprite seems to be a different palette than the red for the player's trainer sprite, which isn't a huge deal, but a little noticeable when they're side by side like they are in dialogue.

This is hardly an issue given the fast-forwarding tools already available to the player, but I wonder if it might be worthwhile to cut down on the messages when switching items on a Pokemon? So, instead of saying "X is already holding a Y. (click) Would you like to take the Y and switch it for Z? Y/N", just make it one single message that says "Switch X's Y for Z? Y/N" Like I said, hardly that big a deal, just something that occurred to me when I was switching celluloses, since players are gonna want to do that often to see all the cool forms!

In a similar vein, as much as I enjoy the rocks and trees thematically, they're a little frustrating to go through because they're only an obstacle by making you click through two messages. (And they reset, so revisiting any place means you have to do it all again) This will sound weird, but what if instead of using the regular script for Rock Smash/Cut, it was an event like this?
Condition: $PokemonBag.pbHasItem?(:PICKAXE)
if true, play the rock smash animation and SFX, erase this event
if false, give the dialogue about "this rock looks like it could be broken

That way, the player would only have to click once on rocks/trees to destroy them! (You wouldn't have the possibility of items/Pokemon in a rock, though)

I think Adorabull's dex entry should be changed to read "a different species depending on its gender", not "a different form". A different form implies something like Meowstic, rather than a split evolution.

I know they're probably just not there because this is a demo, but I hope you include different entries for the regional forms in the future! I think it'll be cool to see the lore behind them!

Fast forward is a bit choppy in the iron pass- I would think because of the flowers and water, but most other locations have that and work just fine?

The dex completer in me is so upset to see Metapod and Beedrill before I can get their prevos. I know there's the daycare center to breed them, but I hate having to go through all that trouble for a Pokemon that should have been there first...

Speaking of prevos, I would not have known Bahbee was a thing at all if I hadn't been seeking out Pokemon! Maybe keep Combee away for a bit so the player can see Bahbee first? New prevos are easy to miss if you encounter the evo first!

Since Cellulose is so important, I think it'd be worth giving it its own pocket, so the player doesn't risk it getting lost in the bag later on.

The Super Rare Candy writes it as POKeMon, but the Rare Candy writes it as just Pokemon.

I should be able to approach that house and TM from here, shouldn't I? But that corner doesn't have any passage, so it's not letting me through.

Portraits don't seem to play nice with the dark map script, resulting in this.

Adorabull seems a little more pixellated compared to other backsprites- I don't know if that's due to the size of the sprite or just how it is.

For whatever reason, "View PokeDex" is still an option on the egg, so I was able to see it was a Togepi. It's not a huge deal, of course, but it might be something to change if you want to keep it a surprise!

My Rare Ore got deleted from my bag right after I spoke with Brigid. She mentions talking with the scientist, so I think it was supposed to still be in my bag when talking with him to trigger the event, but unfortunately, it was gone! I can't re-mine the ore, either, sadly.

Shadow force, Bounce, etc. won't make the user disappear

I think this is just because of the default animations, but you should know that Peck plays Gust's animation, for some reason? (probably bc it's flying-type)

For some reason, Splice seemed prone to not responding at times. This usually tended to happen if I got in a battle shortly after saving, and I was always in fastforward mode, so that makes me think it might be some issue where fastforward mode had trouble handling the shift in what audio was playing. I dunno how to fix it, but it's probably something that can be avoided by letting players know, if nothing else!
The vast majority of these are just missing commas (specifically, missing commas when addressing someone) and I am probably the only person who cares about that, but there's also some others that are more noticable, so I put those at the top (everything else should be in order from the start of the game):
  • out of here of you creepy little nerd - remove second of
  • to it's natural peace - its instead of it's

Avoid stepping in the poisonous swamp of Blighted Bog! All of the Pokémon in your party will become poisoned if you take too many steps in the toxic water!

Thank you so much for all of this feedback! This a goldmine! I really appreciate you playing Splice and taking the time to write up such an extensive report with bugs and feedback/critiques! I'm uploading a new version right now, but for the next update I'll absolutely be looking into your list of items! Thank you so much again, I can't stress enough how much I appreciate feedback messages like this! <3
I'm glad I could help! I'll be sure to keep logging stuff in the rest of my playthrough! I'm excited to see everything else left to offer, especially with this new update!

These updates recently have put out some great stuff! The Blighted Bog is really cool, though I didn't realise not all of it was available right now, due to the Strength boulder being there, though, I'm excited for the next update!

Another new update is now available for Pokémon Splice! Download version 0.4.1 for the following changes:
  • Added the ability to rename Pokémon from the party screen
  • Removed the ability to view Pokedex entry info for Eggs
  • Made cellulose unsellable (Unsellabulose?!)
  • Added a new screen border for Pokémon Splice, enable it in the options menu to see it!
  • Players can now deposit/withdraw Pokemon from the the PC at their house in Moncto Town
  • Added the Ability Capsule, with updated functionality to allow choosing hidden abilities
  • Added a few more berry patches
  • Added interiors to all Driftwood City apartment buildings
  • Added move tutors to the Driftwood City apartments
  • Added Bite as a TM
  • Prevented some attacks from randomly occurring with Metronome (such as Arenay's cell attacks)
  • Removed portraits from the Ferrous Cave ore collecting conversation
  • Added many new signature attacks to Staconan Forms of Pokémon
    • Rage Claw - A new dark attack for Krokorok and Krookodile that always increases attack
    • Missile Dive - A new steel attack for Skartillery that has a chance to sharply raise speed
    • Chlora Burst - A new grass attack for Solosis, Duosion, and Reuniclus that has a chance to increase special attack
    • King's Claw - A new water attack for Kingler that has a chance to increase defense
    • Bolt Bashes - A new electric attack for Zebstrika that hits 2-5 times
    • Freezer Burn - A new ice attack for Mareep, Flaaffy, and Ampharos that has a chance to burn the target
    • Psyche Burst - A new psychic attack for Amoonguss that has a chance to put the enemy to sleep
    • Haymaker - A new fighting attack for Elekid, Electabuzz, and Electivire that deals massive damage but also inflicts recoil damage on the user
    • Tidal Charge - A new water attack for Gyarados that deals massive damage but also inflicts recoil damage on the user
    • Toxic Rush - A new poison attack for Vibrava and Flygon that always poisons the target
    • Moon Rampage - A new fairy attack for Altaria that deals massive damage for 2-3 turns, and then confuses the user (Outrage but special damage)
  • Fixed a few typos (there are still plenty to more to fix though!)

You are quick with updates! I have spent a great deal of time in Blighted Bog yesterday, was pretty awesome! Only thing I did not take into account to much was the poisoning at first lol. Also really like the fact that the regional forms all have signature attacks, makes them unique. May I ask how did you make the automatic poisoning in the overworld happen? Was that through code or events? I could see that being fun as to adapt for another game and make it even more challenging :D.

I dont know how he did it, but I think he used the code similar to what is used when you battle your rival in Driftwood City and he paralyses or poisons your team, I think Cam showed it really early in making Splice, I think in stream 1, 2 or 3 he did it? I'd suggest to go check those streams out! Theyre pretty good!

I actually asked Thundaga this question during one of his streams on Twitch so I could use it my game! He seems happy to help with this stuff - I definitely recommend checking out his stream!

Anyway, to poison all Pokemon in the party you can call this script in an event:
Ruby:
for pkmn in $Trainer.ablePokemonParty
pkmn.status=2
end
To edit the status of just 1 Pokemon it's a little easier, example:
Ruby:
$Trainer.firstablePokemon.status=2
I was able to find out how to change status for 1 Pokemon on my own from the Wiki, but needed help in order for it to work on the whole party. You can find out more (paralyze/burn,etc. Or change a specific Pokemon that's not the 1st in the party) on the Wiki:

Editing a Pokemon

Thanks to you both! I have been watching a lot of his streams after they were live, as I somehow never made it to a live stream. And they are definitely fun and good to even learn from.

All good! Cam's streams are fun to watch the progression of the games, but they also act as a sort of mini tutorial as well, as we can see the coding happening on the screen, so they are much as educational as well as entertaining!

I'm here to report a bug I found since I thought it'd be harder to notice in Discord. Well, after Arenay was kidnapped and was on my way to Mt. Maple, on the way i backtracked to Driftwood City and went inside the lab that Theo works in! Though, even though Arenay was stolen, I wasnt allowed to go inside the lab due to me not having Arenay! I dont know if its intentional but you should be able to go down there after the mission with Arenay!

Finished chapter 2!

These maps are all really well-done! It's a lot of fun going in a place and finding all the hidden secrets and items!

Those cameos are really fun to uncover! They really hit that sweet spot of recognizing a reference, a fun side boss battle, and getting a cool reward for it, it's really satisfying to beat them!

Haha, frozen in fear was a great gag.
The Bio grunts will still be in Theo's lab after CH2. I don't yet know if the same is true for Quantech.

Bug Cellulose (in the Beta Lab) is in a red Poke Ball rather than a blue

There's no music playing when you wake up in your house - is that on purpose?

Some text on the back of the trainer card is misaligned:

There's a broken type button on the search screen, which doesn't seem to go with any type:

You can land on ledges here since they overlap. It's not a huge deal, though, it doesn't affect mobility.

There seems to be a cut tree graphic on the soil here for some reason?

Was something supposed to be on this little island? It looks like there should be something, but I didn't see anything, and I clicked all the rocks to check.

I'm still getting an error when I press f12, sadly! This is a new one, though, and it seems more specific, so hopefully it'll be easier to fix!

For some reason, the Heraplex owned by a grunt in the lab seemed a bit overpowered- it was OHKOing all my party members with Close Combat, none of which were weak to Fighting, even though it was a lower level. It wasn't as much a problem when I encountered it in later fights, though, which is strange.

I think it would be good to have a different key for fastforwarding through text- since X is also to decline, you can hit no on something without getting a chance to see what it was asking. It's not usually a problem, since you can talk again, but I did end up accidentally losing an egg to that.

I also think it'd be nice to have the option to turn off the prompt to add a caught Pokemon to your party. I definitely love having the choice, but when you get a set party, it kind of just becomes more text to scroll through in battles.

Sierra mentions Arenay when asking for a fight, but you can fight him even when you don't have Arenay, and he won't react to it. The same is true if you pick up cellulose from Cypress in her lab.

Sierra kind of asks for a battle twice, I think the last line could be removed.

I wish the department store had a listing of what's on which floor- it's not a huge deal, but a little annoying to have to run around the place trying to find the floor you want.

Speaking of the department store, the mail is spread across floors 2 and 4, which seems a little weird to me.
"I needed to escape to safe place!"- missing "a"
one's to blame! - no apostrophe
the trade guy asks for "an Wingot"
Even though we're on opposite research teams - there's a weird line break here instead of a comma on the Biogress girl, and the line break is still there on Quantech
How did you get past our electrical gate! - should be a ?
Thank you for doing your best to save me from (Rival) - there's a weird line break before (Rival)

That's great \PN! - comma after great
Alright Brigid - comma after alright

Hey there fellow Quantech member! - comma after there
Get out of here you little troublemaker! - comma after here
You need to leave kid! - comma after leave
The key to breeding is catching a ditto! - capitalize ditto
not disappointed at all (Rival)! - comma after all
Take a break (Rival) - comma after break
Hello there \PN! - comma after there
in that case \PN - comma after case
was a good try \PN - comma after try
I'm sorry mother - comma after sorry
