Here at the Scientific Center for Anomalous Lifeform Defense (or SCALD, for short), we strive to presrve normalcy by containing and studying anomalous Pokémon.
In Pokémon Containment, you can play as one of these three aspiring SCALD researchers (Aoichi, Anji, & Miaya) who've just been hired and wish to make a name for themselves. See if they succeed!

Strong foes await you - Build your own team!
Pokémon Containment's battles are heavily inspired by "boss rush" games and Raid battles in the Pokémon franchise. Each anomalous Pokémon you face will be very, very tough, being level 100 with boosted HP stats, but your safety will come from strength in numbers -- for every mission, you're allowed to bring any 2 Pokémon from a large rental selection just for researchers like yourself! Not only that, but SCALD has a dedicated free supply of TMs and a Move Relearner on-duty at all times. Use this to your advantage! You can build unique strategies, challenge yourself by picking less viable Pokémon, or just play with some of your favorites! Essentially no two people will have the same team.

This game was made with Pokémon Essentials v18, with a lovely plugin called Pokémon Essentials GBC by Xaveriux.
Special thanks to Zygoat and Nue for assistance with dialogue.

Made an account just for the sole purpose of mentionning that I beat the game with the level 5 magikarp. It's also the only one I bother nicknaming.

Of course it's already a solid game and it's fine as it is. But since I learn that I completly forgot the sidequest, I'm a bit dissapointed to have missed it lol. I mostly just wish it was possible to go back to old zones.

yeah, the areas/lack of any postgame thing is mostly just because of the time constraints I had working on this lol, sorry. I do plan to eventually update this game and give it a little bit more content, there were quite a few things I scrapped in development because I just didn't have time to make them happen

Mmmh... I'm a little bit conflicted about this game.

On one hand, the idea is very good. The atmosphere looks good, music, background, the idea similar to SCP (I'm a huge fan btw). Characters are somewhat ok, not very developped but still having unique traits
but the final boss is lacking in personnality, it doesn"t fit the character at all

GSC ressources are a choice. I'm not fond of this style, but you did a good job with level design. Anomalies sprites are also fine work of art !

But there are weak points :

  • Ability patch and ability capsule not working : already mentionned one year ago. At least you should remove them from the shop to prevent the player wasting money on them (and resetting --")
  • I had a lot of visual issues, gender is display as a { red or blue, move anmations are all messed up
  • no damage from hail
  • volcarona anomaly ability did...nothing to my pokemon
  • Divination for Hatterene work only one time
  • in the last part, where you have the different containment cell, three are sealed with a keypad...but you can't enter any numeric values. I looked at them and saw that they were just easter egg about SCP but still frustrating

  • WILD ENCOUNTERS god that was soul crushing during the 2nd and 5th anomalies especially, it's of no use other than wasting time and PP if you d'ont have enough speed to flee
  • no heals during mission feels punishing and story wise not very logical
  • 4th level has a lot of books but you can't read any of them, it feels empty and the access to Hatterene is hidden by the pot surging through the first floor
  • 5th is the worst in my opinion : wild encounters, cultist you HAVE to find and fight (firstly I avoided fights and went to the cultist circle not knowing how to have the story progress... didn't know that I have to fight every one of them)
  • on the 7th, the milotic fight..Arceus I laughed so hard. I used toxapex and ended up pp stalling it..but it had more PP than me. Then I discovered than struggle doesn't hit through Indestructible and because it couldn't really damage me ( had leftovers and pex being the pex) it struggled itself to death xD That was stupid and not interesting, but the point is that to change your team you have to lose and sometimes..it's not that easy.
  • 8th and 9th missions (snorlax + volcaran) feel rushed, no background, minimal dialogues, that was uninteresting to be honest
  • so does the end of the game. No real explications, its motivations are..strange ? And the fact that at the end you're trapped in a angelic beach looks like death to me xD

- I think I missed something with a mushroom outbreak looking at the people answer to this thread but still did end the game..is it a side quest ?

Hey! I just finished your game. I was amazed to see so many generations and their spirte work with such detail! Even The Containments themselves are unique. I very much enjoyed playing this, and I look forward to other projects you work on :D

I really wanna get into this game, but every time I enter the smeargle fight it gives me a script error message and the game crashes. Any idea why this happens and how to fix it? I've deleted it completely and redownloaded it several times, but it still persists.

Hi, can you send a screenshot of the error message it's giving you? I can't recreate this so it might have to do with the mons in your party.

Fun game though the random battles felt like pointless fodder and most of the game is really easy, while the cutlist part felt jarringly hard. But I am glad to have played this and would recommend. and im not even someone who cares about SCP, i just downloaded it cause i loved the idea of a game built around quirky Pokemon boss fights, and this game delivered

Hey there! I'm still working on putting more content in this game. I have nearly all of my mapping done, so my new goal will be rebalancing the game's difficulty (One of the big changes coming is three different difficulty modes!)

Just wanna say, awesome stuff. SCPs and Pokémon are big interests of mine, so obviously I'm gonna go crazy for this. The random encounters are a bit much, as someone else mentioned. Also I had to restart cuz I lost to the Shedinja Fight (apparently I suck a bit more than the average player, eh?) and it blocked me off. Otherwise tho, love the vibes. However...something more important...

HOW DO I UNLOCK THE CHAMBERS IN THE FINAL AREA? I NEED TO KNOW WHATS IN THERE SO BAD ITS DRIVIN ME NUTS.

...maybe just a hint at least? plz?

Sooooo... funny story. Technically, there isn't anything behind those yet. Fun jamgame limitations, amirite? I have always had plans for them, though, so look out for the next version!

Speaking of, I figure now's as good a time as any to actually announce what I'm doing properly! Containment 2.0 is going to be a total overhaul of a lot of the game's content, because...well, how do I put this? It's...

The main thing I'm doing here is changing a lot of sprites, a lot of enemy balancing, and a lot of dialogue to make it flow better. And just adding a bunch of random side content because I feel like it. The above screenshot is from the new hub world, the player's hometown of Marimo City.
That's not all I'm adding... but I'll announce that another day ;)
