I made this short game for the Pokecommunity game jam last October and thought I'd share it around here. It was made in less the month so it's far from perfect though I've made a few small updates, fixing a few bugs and making gameplay a little less frustrating. So, the plot! It's a very simple premise where you play as an amnesiac trainer who recently lost their memory in an accident involving some psychic Pokémon. Therefore you have to enter some large caves to seek out Uxie, the legendary Pokémon of knowledge and memory. Your town is located nearby the caves but the caves themselves are large and hard to navigate. Can you make it through the caves and get back your memory? Features: -A cave full of light-the-torch puzzles -No antagonists,, just obstacles to overcome and some angry spirits -Game takes place in a single large area rather than the typical journey. Latest Download Link: here. The game is a few hours long and it is currently complete though there may still be some bugs and things that I missed. I did this project by myself and I'm uncertain about a fair few things. I worry that the difficulty is too tough and that gameplay isn't varied enough and that progression might not feel rewarding enough, yet I'm also uncertain as to how to go about improving it. That aside, the one part am I confident in is the puzzles, I definitely prioritised them over a really strong plot (you might notice I introduce a lot of characters at the beginning of the game but they have a very limited impact afterwards) and they work, even if ultimately they are still quite simple. While the game is nominally complete, I'm not entirely satisfied with it so I might as some point update it with new content if I can ever figure out what I want to change. Edit: Updated the game a bit with some updated overworlds, which are now all RSE style. Protagonists are now Brendan/May instead .

Story: You and your friend, Carla, have won a trip to sail on the ship "S.S Jammica". Its destination is the vast Jamward Ocean, where another great ship was attacked only one year ago by, allegedly, the World's Biggest Gyarados. Excited to see, and potentially capture, the massive Pokémon, you and your friend board the ship. When you find the Pokémon, however, the ship is attacked and wrecked, and you are stranded on Jamward Island. Now you must explore the island in search of the other passengers, and hopefully, find a way off the island. Some have had their evolution level lowered, like Slugma, while others now interact with items in different ways, like Happiny, who doesn't need it, or Duosion, who now does. There are no evolutions that need trades, specific locations, or moves learned to evolve. The Dream Capsule by Rot8er ConeX item has two bugs that I was unable to resolve. First, if the Pokémon does not have a separate DW ability, then it crashes the game. Any Pokémon with Levitate, the Koffing and Duskull lines, and all Legendaries, do not have DW abilities. Second, it does not display the Pokémon's DW ability before the item is used, instead displaying its current ability. As there is no way to reverse giving a Pokémon its DW ability in the game, I recommend saving before using the item. There is a speed up function! Just press 'v' to cycle through the speed up stages. Hi everyone! Here is a project I've been working on every now and then in the past years. It's my first experiment and it's still growing. It's a customizable monster catching&training game based on GPS for Android, a free app you can find on Google Play. It works with any fanmade data pack containing all the data for a set group of monster, and the main one fans have spent time on is the Pokémon data pack, which is why I'm here. It's very light and doesn't use internet connection at all (after you've downloaded a data pack), which is good news for the battery since gps alone already drains a lot. You can find communities of players for the game on Reddit and Discord, more than 10.000 downloads, 4.2 rate on google play, and lots of users played it for hundreds of hours already, catching hundreds of monsters near their homes and sharing their stories online (which made me really happy). Just a quick note: this game was not created as a competitor for Pokémon GO at all, since concept and development started in 2014 and way before GO announcement, and as you can see below, the mechanics are a lot different and more inspired by pokémon games and anime. But even if I see them as different games, people like to compare them, so here are some reviews the game has received in just the last two months: Game screens Route photos The basic idea is that through the game, the entire real world is composed of regions and routes, and every route is a habitat for a different family of monsters. The common sense for most mechanics was inspired by the pokémon anime, more than the games. Also, this is a game to be played while you're outside, in a matter of seconds. You won't find the depth of canonical pokémon games, because it would take too long to play, and because it must remain generic enough to be adaptable to non-pokémon sets. An important keyword is, EXPLORE. This game's goal is to encourage you exploring, going around outside and discovering new places and things. A brief summary of pokémon-like mechanics: - Levels between 1 and 100, and level ups by battling and earning exp - 8 gym leaders + Elite 4 + Champion to beat in each region - Type advantages - Different personalities - Rare legendaries and shinies - Walk with eggs, warm them with warm monsters, and then hatch them - NPC Trainers that become stronger every time you beat them - Music changes when the route changes - Evolutions through levels, evolution items, happiness, trades - Different forms depending on item held, hour, season, etc. - Bluetooth trades to exchange monsters with other players - Manageable boxes - Nicknames - Trainer card with your data - TMs to be learned (though moves are always just generic typed moves) - Gyms can be confronted in any order and the leaders use different teams depending on your current state - Some mechanics specifically oriented toward obsessed shiny hunters :D Here is the link to the page on google play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tankenka.gms Requires android 3.0 or higher. I really hope you have fun with it. As I said ANY set of monsters can be made into a data pack for the game. If you want your set of fakémon, or digimon, or monster hunter monsters, or characters from fire emblem or undertale, animals, bugs, dinosaurs, you can do it, any large set of creatures is perfect for it, and I will gladly help you create it. I think the Fakémon option is particularly interesting, because they can also be used to promote an artist work or a fangame. Also for a generic fakémon data pack, with artworks made by lots of different artists, I can add some content in the Dex screen so that the name of the author can be found, along with a link to their website/gallery. After game jamming for a solid month and posting an endless stream of images about it on Twitter, here I am! You wake up in a Pokémon Center in the middle of a hurricane and can't remember a thing classic amnesia trope is overused, you say? go away. You pick your starter and run around the completely, undeniably and 100% fictitious region of New Jersey trying to piece together what happened before you zonked out (if you don't get it there's an NPC who beats you over with the head with everything at the end). Oh, and Team Aqua is bumbling around, and they don't seem to like you very much. - Default Pokémon Essentials graphics set (with only a few minor changes) - Decent amount of map verticality - Weather wars - Five to seven-ish hours of gameplay, depending on how fast you can read, how much you feel like exploring and how good you are at Pokémon - There are a couple Pokémon Gyms but none of the leaders are home - Zany Super Mario font on the title(s) - Seventy, eighty, I forget exactly how many Pokémon - Jokes at the expense of Delaware - Trainers level with you it was easier than balancing it myself okay? - Choose your difficulty (sort of) - Questionable decisions by the protagonist - Lots and lots of piano midi - Two endings (sort of)(please don't just restart if you lose a battle)(especially the second-to-last one) - Some other things You'll have to forgive the jpegginess, I forgot to save screenshots while I was playtesting so these are (some of) what I posted on Twitter. I'm pretty sure I got rid of all of the game breaking things, most of these are purely aesthetic. Aesthetical. Whatever. Also listing some potential turn-offs that aren't strictly logical errors. - Some of the maps don't have proper borders. Mainly due to the fact that I didn't pay attention to this until it was too late, and sort of burnt out when I went back to fix this. - There's a major plot point near the end but if you talk to most of the NPCs afterwards they won't seem to notice that it happened. - I think I got rid of all of the stub NPC dialogue or items in the game but there may still be one or two here or there (if you find it, you'll know). - Some of the routes may seem a bit barren and there may be some things that appear to be there for no reason. Those are probably there because I originally had plans for something else but, again, burnt out (technically there's still time for this since I'm submitting ahead of the deadline but honestly I don't even want to look at RPG Maker anymore). - The Delaware jokes get old after a while. - Will try to fix any major problems that come up but, again, I'm pretty done with RPG Maker for a good long while. Game (1.0.2) Windows only. Unzip, double click and pray that it works. Still paranoid that y'all are going to click the executable and all hell is going to immediately break loose. Speaking of which, it occurs to me that I should probably have some sort of changelog so people can know if their specific issues have been fixed yet. Author's Note: This game was made for a GAME JAM at PokéCommunity. It won the Game Jam, though there were only four entrants. Here's my award to prove it. It's very pretty. The basis of the challenge was that you were given a random legendary (and one week!) to build a very short "dungeon" and "story" for, and that was the extent of the requirements. I was very excited--it would be cool to make a lava dungeon for Entei, or a Steel mine for Registeel, or even a Sky tower for Thundurus. No. I got Keldeo. Keldeo. Ugh. But I made it work, and I dug it up so I could share it with all of you! It's about a 30 minute long game, though I added a little bit of fun stuff at the end, so who knows.
