In Project Vanguard, the role of the Pokemon Trainer is no longer to collect gym badges and become the champion. Instead, Trainers protect the region from criminal organizations, aggressive wild Pokemon, and whatever other conflicts come their way. As a brand new Trainer, you'll enroll in the Vanguard Academy, a school dedicated to teaching the next generations of Pokemon wielders. As you rise through the ranks, you'll face new challenges, meet new friends, and of course, uncover your mysteries past.

In the region of Ayrei, you'll encounter a total of over 300 new regional forms, evolutions to existing Pokemon, and even completely new ones. With thousands of hours of work from both our artists and balancers, each one will be fun to play with and offer a useful role in your team.

On your journey across it, you'll not just find trainers to battle, but also den's home to rare Pokemon, treasures guarded by powerful opponents,
and a lot of optional areas you'll miss if you don't look hard enough.

Vanguard has three difficulty modes for your choose from. Each one with hand crafted teams for every important boss trainer. No matter what type of player you are, one of these modes should offer an engaging experience.

While we still want Vanguard to feel like an proper adventure, we of course cut down on a lot of the tedious tasks you'd find yourself stuck with in other games. This includes the removal of EV training, as points can now be allocated at any time from the summary screen, and other Pokemon customization items now being easily purchasable.


Additional Features
Old Gym Leaders return as cosplayers ("super fans") for you to battle with new teams!
Most route Trainers are optional (progress at your own pace!)
Non-Binary protagonist option
28 Starters (22 of whom are Regional Variants!)
Advanced Pokedex that displays the stats and learnsets of every seen Pokemon
EXP all (right after picking your starter)
Infinite Repel (right after picking your starter)
Canon Pokemon up to generation 9

General changelog:
  • Eight new story chapters (ch28-35)
  • Added Naomi, a Non-Binary protagonist option
  • The final level cap has been increased to 65
  • Every regional form and important battle has been reworked or updated
  • 60+ new regional forms, fakemon, or regional sprite updates
  • Every outdoor map has been updated with new tiles
  • Many important characters have had their sprites polished
  • Every important character now has a VS sprite
  • Full team heals have been added to many story events that were missing them
  • Major bug fixes, like Cionsta park crash for example
  • The character "Lisia" has been renamed to "Ophelia"

So I've started fresh with a new save file and now I've reached XCI-2 Facility and I've gotta ask. Is there a PC in there? Cause my team doesn't have the ability to beat the boss so I'm softlocked.

Edit: Managed to cheese it thanks to two lucky crits but this part really needs a PC to not get frustrating.

Edit2: There seems to be some issues with the EVs management. Sometimes it will pull the options to give items/mark instead of the right menu.
I also am pretty sure the rock smashing got bugged. I got the tm but I can't use it. Would it be possible to edit one of the variables to make it work with a save editor?

Edit3: If anyone encounters the same problem as me with rock smash not smashing, it seems the lower rock in Avaros cavern can be smashed and it then let the game know you have the Tm so all rock will be smashable.

Hey, congrats on the 4.0 release, but I've gotta ask: is there documentation on 4.0 other than the online Pokedex? Things like mons/items/TMs locations and stuff? I kinda don't really wanna have to rely on the 3.5 guide, cuz, you know... Outdated info in there. Also, I see that the Ayreian Pawniard line hasn't been touched. Are we gonna see an Ayreian Kingambit/new Ayreian Bisharp evolution or not?
Edit: When you get to the Aureyes Forest, you should be able to catch Ayreian Noibat in there, as the document says, but instead, there's Ayreian Phantump

I have a problem.
I can’t use Rock Smash.
I also can’t get back into Avaros Cave to smash the rock there.
Does this mean that Rock Smash is now useless forever?

It's not forever. Assuming you manage to beat the boss and return to the Avaros Cave, the lower rock from the town side of the cave is destroyable and then the game realizes you can do it.

But supposedly the newest updates should have fixed that problem. I'd also recommend going straight to the discord since the updates and bug reporting is done mostly there.

Hi, I'm stuck. I took the Magikarp quest in Citrine but I died to the Gyarados on the bridge. I went back to face it again, but it doesn't respond and the Gyarados and a tree both block the path towards the Citrine Jungle. So I'm essentially stuck and can't continue. Can you help me?


EDIT: I found how to use older save files. That helped me work around this issue!
