In Development Pokémon Defiance

This project is a work in progress. The content is subject to change, and not finished yet.
0AIU3SZ.png

This game's been in development for a while, and maybe it would have a lot more to show for it if I worked on it more. But regardless, it's still something I've poured a lot of work into and am proud of, at the very least.

Story
Who are you? Your name? Your goals? Your mind is so foggy.
You awaken within a steel prison, even your captors confused by your presence.
It's only natural that your next course of action is to escape. And then what? Do you want to take on the Pokemon gym challenge? Change the world? Do all kinds of quests? Meet people? Or do you just want to explore?
It's your choice, after all.

Features
[tabs]
[tab=Campaigns]
Pokémon Defiance has three main campaigns, each not only giving a different side of the story, but also offering different gameplay styles that vastly deviate from the traditional Pokémon formula.

4NXPVVu.png
Path to Fate
4NXPVVu.png

You must follow the stream, and learn what lies beyond
  • Your traditional Pokemon-styled adventure.
  • Take on the League Challenge while battling alongside plenty of different characters.
  • End the conflict that rattles the region.

eVGj3L5.png
Path to Hope
eVGj3L5.png

You shall ennact justice on this world.
  • This path emphasizes mission-based gameplay as you scale the hierarchy
  • Encounters and items are more limited. You must earn your Pokemon and gear.
  • Experience an unseen side of the world
  • Unravel the mysteries of the world, what else remains unseen?

Path to Knowledge

You act for the sake of discovering the truth.
  • Free reign to explore the world at your own pace. The levels of trainers and Pokemon scale alongside you. Credit: Umbreon
  • HMs are no more, and instead you are given items to effectively act as replacements Credit: FL
  • You are tasked with studying the world around you. Experimenting. Manipulating the potential.
When it's time to make your choice, choose wisely. Your decisions will have consequences.
[/tab]
[tab=Unique Characters]
d9QfRL9.png

One of Pokémon Defiance's most defining features is that each NPC in the overworld is unique. No more will you see crowds of faceless Bug Catchers roaming the streets. Now, everyone has their own identity.

Not only do they have distinct appearances and personalities, but they each have a connection and role in the world. Many have their own goals and aspirations, and some will even travel around the region.

There will be certain locations where you can further interact with certain NPCS. You can become friends, which not only means that they will give you items, but certain story interactions may also be altered by you having met them.

Many NPCs will give out quests. These range from simple fetch quests to potential chain quests with arcs that can strongly affect the world and people around you. The possibilities are limitless.
[/tab]
[tab=Naukan Forms]
MTo798h.png

These unusual-looking Pokémon are some bizarre in-between of Deltas and Alola Forms, boasting not only changed typings, but even different moves, abilities, and sometimes even stats.

The origin of these Pokemon is ultimately unknown, though many specimens have been spotted in the possession of Laser Corporation employees.

[/tab]
[tab=Mega Evolutions]
sgPmL8S.png

There are dozens of new Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Defiance, including fan favorites as well as some lesser-known species.

[tab=Delta Species]
DYLi4wy.png

Rarely found in the wild, these bizarre Pokémon have not only different appearances, but different types from their normal selves. They act similarly to shiny Pokémon, with each species of Pokemon having a different appearance and typing from their normal selves.
With a couple of exceptions, every single Pokemon has a Delta form.
OT1nz9J.png

If you encounter a wild Delta, no need to panic and guess their weaknesses. Icons linked to their typings are displayed underneath their health bars.

There are plenty of other features as well, including, but not limited to:

Multiple Save Files

A large, detailed Region
The Lotta region is a large region known for not only its commerce, but also its mysterious ruins scattered across the land.

Difficulty and Challenge Modes
Credit: shiney570
Easy: Lower levels, Important trainers use less Pokémon, Gen 6+ EXP Share
Normal: Levels are unaltered, Important trainers scale in difficulty, Pre-Gen 6 EXP Share
Hard: Higher levels, Important trainers use 4-6 Pokémon, no EXP Share

Alongside these difficulty modes are several challenge modes, including the Randomizer and Delta-fier modes.
Pokémon Followers

Now expanded up to the 6th Generation.
Lotta Underground
While this feature shares many similarities with the Sinnoh Underground, there are in fact multiple major differences.
Lotta's underground caverns are far more diverse and structured. Within it lie many different puzzles and landmarks, some of which can be considered extremely dangerous.
But the resources underneath are incredibly valuable and some caverns are even hospitable.
Secret Bases
Credit: KleinStudio
From the thickest of trees to the deepest of caverns, there are plenty of potential spots for Secret Bases across the world. Perhaps others can even join in on the fun...
Pokemon World Tournament
Credit: LukaSJ
The world's mightiest battleground also has a branch in the Lotta Region!
Battle powerful trainers from across the world, and perhaps even some new challengers...
Link Stone
Credit: FL
Trade Evolutions are no longer an issue with this special evolution stone.
Changes to older Pokemon
Whether it be new moves, abilities, or stat boosts, old Pokemon will have the chance to shine like never before!
Unreal Time System
Credit: FL
The world moves on its own 48 minute clock. No need to change your computer's time if you can only play at a certain point in the day.
Player Outfits
Not only are you given a choice between what characters to play as, but you also have multiple outfits based upon both main series characters as well as people you meet across your journey.
Customized Shiny Pokemon
The shiny forms of many different Pokemon look far different in the Lotta and Eolas regions. Researchers are unaware of the cause of this anomaly.

...And plenty more!

I've seen you occasionally talk about this project on the PokéCommunity Discord over the past few months and I'm really impressed by how much you've put into it so far. I know you're struggling to apply yourself at times, but this project is turning out really well! Keep at it, especially with the whole dual region thing. I'll have to try this out sometime.

AHHH! I remember seeing this project in the old forums and being super hyped about it, checking this page everyday to see if you've decided to give an update. When the forum updated, I didn't know if you'd come back. I wish the best of luck for you in this project!
though I'd totally not mind if you, y'know, do more updates

Oh, the main reason I stopped with the updates was because I was on break for a couple of weeks.

I don't update very much. That's just how I work. This is in part due to me not typically feeling like taking screenshots as well as me forgetting how quickly time passes. By no means to I plan to ever completely stop development, and at worst I would probably just take another break.

No worries, though. I have plenty of new things in store that I've been working on.

Oh, that's great to hear! Still, don't stress too much on working on this project if you don't feel like it
Also, can I ask an approximate number of unique characters?

There's no solid number at the moment. Out of battleable NPCs, I currently have over 100, but there are going to be plenty NPCs that won't be fought.

It's a lot easier than it sounds to make them, since I actually use OW bases alongside parts ripped from canon characters.

I'm just going to give the announcement now that after much consideration, the second region has been scrapped.

This is for a multitude of reasons, really.
The primary reason I was insistent on including the second region in the first place was because it was a remnant of my original project, which even then wasn't that good.
There's also the factor of time and even space. Not only does having the second region extremely lengthen the development time, but the fact is: RPG Maker XP does have a map limit. Given how big even the main region is going to be, it will be for the better that I prioritize fleshing out the Lotta Region.

That isn't to say that everything about the Eolas region is gone, however. Sure, the towns may be missing, but I am bringing over many of the locations and dungeons into the main region as well as reworking my old plot elements in a far more exciting and unique way.

Now there's also the gym leaders: those poor, eight quirky characters can't be homeless, now can they?
Good thing they aren't. They too will be moved to the Lotta Region, and some will keep the mantle of Gym Leader, replacing some of the... Lesser peoples.

Those that do not become gym leaders, will still have chances, however. I have plans for them in the form of The Replacement System.
In sidequests, for example, there will be certain choices that may result in a gym leader losing their title. In these events, one of the substitutes much rise up and take over the mantle of Lotta Gym Leader. This can lead to plenty of events that further emphasize the connection with the main and optional story plots. It's a feature I really look forward to implementing.

Here's the current region map with a few more things added to it.
YeLStZU.png

Like everything else, this is definitely subject to change.

This looks really good so far. I think I gave some feedback on the previous thread, but I'll give some more now.

Things I Like:
  • I love the detail of the maps and how well they are structured. One critical issue in fan games is bland maps, and I feel you have overcome that issue.
  • The custom menu is adorable! It's sleek and modern, something that I like.
  • The playable characters are creative and imaginative
  • THE DETAIL! My goodness! This game has so much detail in it. The plot and storyline, region map and so much more demonstrate the detail in the game. I'm really looking forward to the finished product.

Thinks That, In My Opinion, Could Be Improved:
  • This is just me being fussy, but it looks like the Delta Snivy is out of place slightly.

That's really all. I'm super impressed by this and feel like heaps of people will enjoy playing the game! Good Luck!

...Actually, the reason Snivy looks off in the screenshot is because of EBS's camera movement. Rest assured, they aren't in that position normally.

But I do appreciate the feedback. It's really reassuring when people express their interest.

...I could have sworn I had answered this sooner.

Frankly progress isn't as far as I'd like, primarily because of events. It's not that I can't do them, it's that they just feel extremely tedious to do and I'd literally prefer to do anything else. There's someone who may end up helping me but they won't be available until the summer probably.

Regardless, I'm getting other things done, like mapping and sprites.
O3I2oBn.png

Here's a nice little thing I've been doing. I said I was removing the second region, yes, but this is something a little different.
...I'm definitely not talking about it any time soon, though.

lol sorry, i saw that your post was only 10 days before mine, my bad.

btw i do like the mapping you have going on, much more advanced than the default map style of essentials, but then essentials is only meant to get you going, not to do it all for you. XD

It looks really good! The only problem here is the playable characters. I noticed that only one dark skin character is available in the male playable character selection. Why isn't there one in the female playable character selection? I mean I'm not trying to start anything, I just find that odd. Maybe change one of the playable female character's skin color to make it even? Other than that everything looks good!
