Maybe Essentials is a lot quicker than traditional romhacking... but holy crap this is a massive accomplishment. Not only is there a lot of game in this game, but it's all polished extremely well and is very fun and satisfying to play.

A lot of longer Pokemon games try to have an emotional throughline, with something like your rival realizing that being cruel isn't great. I have never seen any Pokemon game do that better than The Slowpoke Shack. It goes so far as to send you back to live with your parents and reconcile your issues with your father! In a lesser hack, Daddy would have just been a black and white villain, but the devs take the time to take you back to your parents' house, characterize him strongly, and do an entire mini-act in a park where you prove yourself and remind him of his own dreams. Only a very dedicated dev would spend all that extra time mapping and scripting for that kind of emotional payoff.

So, go play this hack! It's a wonderful labor of love!

Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words! Honestly, you should definitely check out Ekat's games such as Apathy, Nightshade and Halcyon. I take great inspiration from those games and all of them feature very realistic and relatable characters.
