Hello!

Welcome to Pokemon Alden, a fan game based loosely on my long running D&D game!

Right now, this is a pretty modest project, but I want to share it regardless! I've done my best to fill this first big chunk of the game with as much detail and intrigue as possible.

PLOT

Pokemon Alden is set in the Helephen Region, a small portion of a larger nation ruled over by the technologically advanced Aldenian League. Your story begins when you are tasked with making a simple delivery for your neighbor, the local Pokemon Professor. As you travel North, you'll start to learn more about the region's problems. Pokemon are becoming sick and strange debt collectors are harassing the people of Helephen. All these unsavory happenings seem to point back to the Aldenian League, and you'll find yourself going from simple errand runner to hero.

You may also find yourself joining factions such as the Pokemon Rangers and the archeologists of the Thaelian Society. You'll help the Pokemon Rangers in their fight against a group of poachers known as Team Plunder. If you choose to join the Thaelian Society, you'll pursue artifacts that tell the history of Helephen.

And of course you'll also collect gym badges, hunt rare Pokémon, and achieve Pokedex milestones.

FEATURES (Available in this Demo)

  • Nearly 150 original regional variants.
  • More than 400 new moves and more than 130 new abilities.
  • 6 Gyms to challenge.
  • More than 125 quests to complete.
  • Basic crafting system with drops from wild Pokemon.
  • The "Ancient" type. This includes all fossil mons, Totodile, Relicanth, and a few others + several new variant species.
  • New weathers, terrains, and other significant battle system additions.
  • New Take on the Expedition Zone, a vast run-based experience where you build a team on the fly and see if you can summit Expedition Volcano.
  • New Hall of the Wardens, a facility for collecting special re-colors and signature abilities by defeating wild boss Pokemon.
  • New Choose from three original player characters: Sable, Worthy, and Artemis.
  • A couple other things I don't want to spoil :)

POKEMON CHANGES

I have rebalanced almost every original Pokemon available in the game to fit better with the pacing of a single player adventure. In general I changed the following:

  • Pokemon have higher stats but evolve later (sometimes significantly). All fully evolved Pokemon have a BST of at least 470.
  • Pokemon have vastly expanded learn sets and in many cases at least one new ability.
  • All evolutions have been streamlined to be either: Level up, Stone, or Happiness. Happiness has been reworked to no longer include step grinding.
  • Megas and Gmax forms are not present. Instead many of these have been repurposed and rebalanced as permanent evolutions for Pokemon like Lopunny, Lapras, Pinsir, Manectric, Garbodor, and many others.

Hi all,

Some small update notes. Use the main download link if you'd like to update your game.

BUG FIXES
Garbodor now properly evolves at level 60.
Random eggs given by breeders and purchased at Acre Market no longer sometimes causes errors.
Goomy line's abilities are now consistent.
Luxio and Luxray are now Electric and Dark-Type as Shinx is.
Aurorus is now Ice and Ancient-Type as Amaura is.
Cranidos and Rampardos are now both Rock and Ancient-Type as intended.
You can no longer get infinite Silk Scarves for free
The event with Dido no longer repeats itself if you revisit the alternate version of Beholder Peak.
The message "You have already completed this quest." should no longer appear.
Fixed collision issues in: Duskpine Dale, Beholder Village, Barrow, and Bidingwood - East
Fixed issues with several quests reappearing in quest logs (Unfortunately if you have already had them re-added, I can't remove them)

CHANGES
Added the Advanced Pokedex plugin from -FL- so PBS info can be viewed in game.
Added a Speed Up Toggle. Press Q by default to cycle between 3 speed stages.

If continuing from a previous save, talk to the assistant in Wisteria's lab to add the PBS info to your Pokedex.

Thank you for keep the game alive. This game really good but underrated. Thank you and stay healthy

Hey want to ask, is there chance for the main character and other important characters to have its own original sprite in future?

I think because this is original region and story not to mention really good story the main character and important character deserves original sprite

Totally! I'm working on it!

Pokémon Alden 0.6: Into the Expedition Zone Update Notes

1. New Pokémon and Forms

Nearly 50 new Pokémon and regional forms including new regional lines for: Poochyena,
Bellsprout, Shinx, Natu, Caterpie, Venonat, Psyduck, Chimchar, Gulpin, Happiny, Inkay,
Vulpix, Woobat, Grimer, Frigibax, Shieldon, Bulbasaur, and Cherubi.

The unreleased leaked peanut Pokémon have been realized and added to the game as Peabuddy
and Legumie.

Several additional gimmick forms have been reworked into permanent evolutions. Gallade
for example now has an entirely separate evolution line from Gardevoir:
Ralts (Blade form) > Gallade > Chivaliance.

Many canon Pokémon are now obtainable for the first time and have been updated with
new move pools, abilities, and stat spreads.

2. New Content
Explore 8 new outdoor maps which include one new town:

Faireholme Amble, Faireholme Resort, Expedition Muskeg (East), Expedition Muskeg
(west), Expedition Tundra (South), Expedition Tundra (North), Expedition Glade,
Expedition Volcano.

Take on roughly 25 new quests which involve:
Earning the Venture Badge.
Uncovering a lost treasure beneath Faireholme Resort.
Meeting a new occult obsessed faction with a scientific twist.
Pursuing Team Plunder and the Silver Marshals.
Challenging new and old characters to be your Expedition Rivals.
Rousing an old and powerful Pokémon in the Bidingwood.
Helping the Thaelian Society track down more Myrmin artifacts.
And more!!

More than 70 new trainer battles, most which can be repeated and will change between
repetitions.

Dive into Pokémon Dens, new bite sized dungeons, for unique boss encounters and
rewards. All boss battles with wild Pokémon have been overhauled and there are 12 new Poke-bosses to battle!

Many new crafting recipes and stations!

3. New Features
The Expedition Zone: A new repeatable, survival-lite mode designed to be fun for multiple
plays with variable events, trainer battles, and loot. Build a team on the fly and see if you
can reach the summit of Expedition Volcano!

Enhance your Expedition by choosing any number of Rivals from a pool of 6. All but
one of these Rivals are unlocked by completing quests both from previous content and new
content. Itis possible to have 4 rivals already unlocked when you arrive in Faireholme for
the first time, with the last two being unlocked in through the new content. Defeat any rival
3 times during an Expedition and you will earn a unique TM inspired by their character.

You will earn Expedition Medals throughout your time in the Expedition Zone, which
can be traded for a large variety of prizes including: all evolution stones, 4 new utility key
items, an original TM, and a powerful fossil.

Original Player Characters: Red and Leaf are gone! Now you can choose to play as
Worthy, Sable, and Artemis. You may change your character at any time by using the PC in
your home in Kander.

Hall of the Wardens: This expansive new Pokémon Ranger facility serves as an explorable
collection of all the wild Poke-Bosses you have defeated. You can use the Hall of the
Wardens to empower compatible Pokémon with the appearance and signature ability of
previously defeated Poke-Bosses.

Battle Café Reworks: Battle Cafés have been reworked to be more compelling challenges
and will now scale based on your number of badges. Defeating each Café challenge the
first time will reward you with an item that lets you make any Pokemon shiny.

Guidebooks: This new kind of key item will grant a permanent 50% exp boost to all
Pokémon associated with a particular habitat just by having the Guidebook in your
inventory. The currently accessible game world is broken into 5 Habitats, each of which have their own guidebook.
Golden Hearth: Kander, Gaines, Smoming and surrounding areas.
Bidingwood: Barrow and surrounding areas.
Duskpine Dale: Bordenbrad and surrounding areas.
Beholder: Beholder Village and surrounding areas.
Expedition Zone: Faireholme and the Expedition Zone.

Soft Level Caps: The game now includes soft level caps to help preserve appropriate
challenge throughout the game and to avoid punishing those that like to complete
everything. All gym leaders will now either reward you with an increased level cap or anew
Pokemon inspired tool (field move). If you find the game to be too challenging, exp items
and rare candies allow you to bypass your current level cap.

Poke-Tools: Speaking of Poke-Tools, this update features a variety of new major and minor
tools. Dean Heron in Beholder will now reward the player with an upgrade to the Lanturn
Lantern called the Tad-Bulb. This upgrade, far from just lighting up caves, will allow you to
manipulate the environment by illuminating mysterious crystal formations. If you are
continuing from a save where you have already defeated Heron, just speak with her again in
her gym to receive your Tad-Bulb. Our New Gym Leader, Kevin Goldenrod, awards the
Sneasler Gear, which will allow you to descend into Pokemon Dens. Thereis also anew
specialty fishing rod, and several minor Poke-Tools including: the Herdier Scouter, Thievul
Gloves, and Nido-Stompers.

4. Battle Mechanics
More than 100 new moves.

More than 100 new abilities.

More than 20 new battle focused held items (not including the 40 new Poke-Marbles).

Confusion and infatuation have been reworked into non-volatile status conditions.

Confusion: 25% chance to lose hurt and hit self, All attacks against confused
targets bypass accuracy checks to hit.

Charmed (Formerly infatuation): Charmed Pokemon lose 1 stage of Atk. And
Sp.Atk. at the end of each round.

This update also introduces the first strictly beneficial status condition: Blessing.

Blessing: Blessed Pokemon are prevented from acquiring other status conditions,
cannot have their stats lowered, and take 25% less damage from direct attacks.

(New Weather) Ashen: When Ash is falling from the sky, Ghost Pokemon take 35% less
damage from direct attacks. Fire moves have their damage increased by 15% and Ancient
moves have their power deceased by 50%.

Reworked Misty Terrain: Mist now grants Fairy-type Pokemon the ‘Serene Grace’ effect on
all moves. Mist also boosts the power and accuracy of Powder moves. All the original
effects of Misty terrain have been removed.

New move tags and synergies: You'll now see new and existing moves tagged as: Spirit,
Crafty, Crushing, Cosmic, and Wild. Lookout for effects, abilities, and items that support
new tags. Move tags now appear in move descriptions.

Lots of other minor tweaks to existing mechanics. Just to name a few: Aqua Ring heals
more in the rain, Grassy Terrain heals more for Grass and Normal types. Overgrow, Torrent,
and simitar abilities have been buffed to trigger at 50%. Hyper Beam and similar abilities
have had their power increased by 20.

5. Quality of Life Improvements
Bag items now sort alphabetically.

You will now be prompted to send a Pokemon to the PC when catching a new Pokemon
with a full party.

You can now respawn roaming Pokemon if you accidentally defeat them.

All wild Pokemon now have a chance to drop crafting materials and the list of abilities that
replicate the treasure amulet effect has been expanded.

Stone evolutions no longer lose their learn set.

Happiness changes: No more step grinding. Massive boost to other sources, including
several new items that boost happiness.

6. Bug Fixes
Big thanks to: Snowmoose, Camryn, HimboLogic, Riptidecord, Kylindra, Joycepoice, Zinkatron and
others for helping me identify lots of typos and bugs fixed in this update.

7. Final Note
Thank you very much for your patience. I'm sorry this took so long. I got a bit carried away
with the scope and scale of the Expedition Zone. The Kanto safari zone was something that
really captured by imagination as a child, and I wanted to make sure my homage to it was
the best effort I could possibly put forward. I do not intend to ever again spend this much
time working on a 1-badge section of the game.
