Project Version
3.2.0
How many have played through Gen 2 and thought: "Wow that would have been much better with a logical level curve." Or just wanted a remake of Johto with a higher difficulty? Welcome to Grueling Gold, a difficulty fan game of Gen 2, developed in v20.1 of Pokemon Essentials. Some things you'll find:

  • mega evolution, including some custom megas
  • updated base stats and movesets for normally underused Pokemon
  • competitively challenging boss battles, gym leaders and rivals
  • added story elements to combine the nostalgia with a fresh take
  • custom moves and abilities to give a more interesting competitive battling scene
  • 2 difficulty levels
  • an option to removing grinding and EVs
  • a nuzlocke option
  • A Dexnav that works with day and night cycle so you can chain hunt encounters for shinies or egg moves and hidden abilities
  • use of Essentials Deluxe to insert boss Pokémon and certain gimmicks within battles
  • a completely reworked and custom AI to optimize the battle experience and make the game actually difficult
  • Pokémon from gens 1-9 (DLC mons released as of 2.0! Kanto later!)
  • a fully working randomizer that can randomize encounters, static and gift mons, trainer teams, level up moves, abilities and base stats
  • Expert mode now plays a good bit differently from normal mode! (1.2.0 update)

Can you please give a in depth step by step process on how to update the game with the patch. It downloaded the new patch folder directly into the game folder but i dont know what to do from there. I have tried a bunch of different things but nothing is working.

Run the game, extract the patch it downloads, go into patch folder, move folders (should show Data, Graphics, etc) and the version file into your game folder, then relaunch the game

Loving this game so far. Going to the pokemon league. Shiny team love the difficult it’s hard and challenging even on normal mode love the ideas for less grinding and money. Great game so far 👍🏽. Only thing is I can’t seem to find gardervoir mega stone. Thanks man

I'll have to look and see where/if I put it in haha. If I didn't, you can expect to be released in the next update

So I have some comments to make on this game. I love the team composition of the boss trainers( team rocket, gym leaders). I think they’re challenging but not overly so. My one complaint is with the pacing of the team rocket events. I’m pre gym two but it was the battle in union cave and then right after slowpoke well. I think that the game would work better if it didn’t just seem like a boss rush with team rocket. To me it’s nice to have challenging boss battles, but it would also be nice if it didn’t just feel like battle this person because we’re told to. I guess more self discovery would be nice. That being said this seems like a fantastic game, and I can’t wait to finish it.

Heya, Phantombass. First of all, great game so far, I do enjoy a difficulty game here and there. Second of all, how can one get their hands on the Paradox mons? Or are they unavailable for now? I would like to add some cracked Paradox Mons (like maybe Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle) to my squad. If possible, that is

Should've known I couldn't get em before mid to late game. Anyways, how do I get Hisuian forms for Pokemons that reach their regular forms in a similar way (like Hisuian Typhlosion, Hisuian Samurott, and Hisuian Decidueye, for example)? Do I have to evolve them at night or do I need a specific item to do so?

If you're on the latest update, there's an NPC who sells an item called Alternate Stones. He's on route 35

Started playing this, and I like it so far, especially the minimal grinding mode! However, I do feel like the OW is a bit empty and missing NPC's from the main games on certain routes. Do you plan on including them? I feel it would be great to do so since their absence does tone down the immersion.
