Noticed a small error with one of my events that could results in small story spoilers, if interacted with under the right conditions. I've updated the zip file and fixed the event.

Pokemon Helix has been updated to v.0.6.2! This update opens up access to Hydrangea City Gym, Spruce Swamp, Ivyborough, and new story content!

  • Added Bottle Cap Maniac to Cedargalena Pokémon Center and Marbleoak Dojo
  • Modified prizes in Lucky Larry's Casino
  • Modified available items at Birchquartz Refreshment Vendor
  • Removed Birchquartz Herbalist

  • Fixed an error that could result in the various Galar fossils being deleted from the inventory without the player being given a revived
    Pokémon
  • Fixed passability issues with tiles in Bayberry Gym

  • Changed post battle dialogue of a grunt in Kanjo Caves

Hey y'all!

Quick update post! I'm still working on v.0.6.3, but it's a much slower process than it has been since launch. I've been super busy with work and other responsibilities, in preparation for a big transition in my life!

It may be some time before the next update is out, but hopefully not too long! In the meantime, here's a little sneak peek of one of the new areas I'm working on, as well as an NPC from one of the new towns.

Another update!

Gonna be a longer delay before the next update, but the next version will be v.0.7.0, since I'll be making the jump from Essentials v18.1 to Essentials v19! I'm gonna need to take a little time to learn v19, port my game over, finish up the new content for the update (and wait for certain plugins to be updated for v19 compatibility)

That said, with some of the changes in Essentials v19, I'm optimistic that Pokemon Helix v.0.7.0 will include performance improvements!

Still working on the next update! I've nearly finished updating to v19.1 and added some new plugins/features. I'm still combing through all of the already released content, updating some of events to work properly. I've also been condensing the size of my tilesets and re-mapping many of my maps with the smaller tilesets in an effort to improve performance. Hopefully, I'll be done updating and fixing the old stuff soon, and I can finally begin working on the new stuff for the next update!

Hey y'all!

Another quick update! I'm still working on the next release version! There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff I'm working on for this one, as well as some graphical changes (condensing tilesets, modifying events, setting up Sun/Moon style trainer intros using EBDX [which will include creating a lot of custom trainer art], as well as some sprite reworks, and the addition of a new Fakemon - a pre-evolution to an already existing mon.)

One of the things I've worked on for the new update is a complete redesign for Watson & Phoebe (the player characters/rival).

I wish I could give an idea of when the next version will be out, but there's a lot going into it, and I've also been busy with work and other stuff.

That said, I'd like to release it before hitting the one year anniversary of this game's release, and I'm hoping I can hit that goal!

Also, with the work in Essentials v19 that allows the use of Mystery Gift again, I'm planning a special Mystery Gift release in the next version to celebrate the upcoming release of Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl!

Still plugging along with work on the next update!

Things are going slower than I'd like, but I have to prioritize work, paying bills and taking care of other things in life, so I can't devote as much time to dev work as I'd like.

Just discovered an error in Poke Marts where Paralyze Heals don't seem to be available when they should be (regardless of number of badges). Found this out when I interacted with a Poke Mart and got thrown an error in the latest version (spelling difference between the script command and the PBS file). Though for some reason, when I went back to my v.0.6.2, it didn't give me an error but instead just didn't show Paralyze Heals as an option. I'm assuming no one's game has crashed when interacting with Poke Marts, since I never received any reports of this. This will be fixed in the next update.

Here's a few visual sneak peeks at some of the stuff I'm working on for the next release of the game.

Between updating from Essentials v18 to v19.1, waiting for plugins to get updated to v19, adding EBDX, adding a few new plugins, designing new abilities and a couple of new fakemon, as well as life responsibilities, working on this update alone has at least doubled the time I've been developing this game!

With EBDX, I get the beautiful addition of Sun/Moon style battle intros, but it comes with the price of affecting the perspective and zoom of my old battlebacks in a way I'm not a huge fan of. So, once the next update drops, it'll be goodbye to battlebacks ripped from (mostly) 3DS Pokemon games, and hello to brand new, custom made battlebacks! I've also updated the summary screen to match the visuals from the Generation 5 games (and the screenshot below lets you catch a glimpse of a special new Poke Ball I'll be adding in the next update)

A lot of the time that I've spent working on this update so far has been waiting for plugins to release for v19, updating them as they get new updates, and making sure all of my events and script changes are up-to-date with the changes made between v18 and v19. But now, with most of that out of the way, I've started working on making new abilities, getting all of the S/M style trainer intros set up and designing a couple of new fakemon. I'm also working on practicing Pokemon spriting, so maybe I'll be adding more fakemon down the road!

The biggest undertaking I have ahead of me now is creating my new battlebacks, as well as creating the trainer intros for my original trainers. It's a lot of artwork that I'm gonna be working on, but I'm excited to really put my own unique twist on my game in a way that can help it stand out in the vast sea of Pokemon fan games! And once all of my custom art stuff is out of the way, I should be able to completely shift my focus to the next section of the game's main story.

Thanks to those of you who are patiently awaiting the next release of Pokemon Helix! I still can't say when exactly I'll be releasing it, but I'll continue to keep you all updated on my progress!

(Edit 11/27/21: Updated the winter battleback and added a screenshot of the mine battleback)

A little sidetracked playing Brilliant Diamond, but I'm loving the battlebacks in this game! Gonna be great inspiration for the custom battlebacks I'm working on for Helix!

Since tomorrow in Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), I wanted to share two new items I'll be adding in the next update. Since I'm drawing inspiration from New England for the region of Merima, and I recently discovered that cranberries are grown in New England (the brand Ocean Spray is based in Massachusetts), I've decided to add a cranberry based Berry - the Bog Berry - as well as reskinning Bayberry Juice as Bogberry Sauce!

Credit to Ekat & Heartlessdragoon for the swamp tiles used for the Bayberry Bog, although I edited the color of the grass and added the floating berries.

It's just a byproduct of the EVs & IVs being displayed on what is normally the Ribbons screen. This won't be an issue in the next update, as EVs and IVs will be displayed along side the regular stats, and the Ribbons screen will be back.

Figured I should make an official announcement on this, rather than just leave it alone.

This project has been discontinued. I updated the thread a while back to display that at the top, but I wanted to officially acknowledge it with a comment.

Without going into a lot of details, I quit Pokemon a few months back (for a very stupid reason), and in doing so, I quit working on this project and even got rid of all my project files. At this point, there's little hope of work on Helix continuing.

That said, I've started getting back into Pokemon, I just downloaded the newest version of Essentials, and I'm beginning work on a new project. It's in the earliest of planning stages at the moment, so it'll likely be some time before I have anything to show for it.

Thanks to all who supported this project, and I'm sorry that it won't be continuing. But hopefully, I can take what I learned from working on Helix, as well as some of the ideas I planned on implementing, and make my next project something even better.

Hey y'all!

I'm still around!

I managed to find a download of v.0.6.2 of Helix a while back, and thus have gained access to a lot of the old project files. While I still don't have any of the work that followed the last demo version released, I have Helix files that have been repurposed into the new project I've been working on.

I'll have detailed information on the new project in the coming months, but I'll say this much for now: This new project will be the rebirth of Pokemon Helix - Merima is being redesigned, rebuilt and reimagined with a new name, new protagonists, a new evil team, a heavier lean into its New England inspirations, and what I hope to be a deeper, more thematic story than the original Helix - one that will draw inspiration from my own life and some of the events that led to the discontinuing of the original project.

I've also updated the download link in this thread with the old demo version of Helix that I found, so it's still available for anyone who wants to play it.
