Pokemon Helix has been updated to v.0.5.4!

  • Fixed text issue with Bayberry City Gym's statues labelling it as "Birchquartz City Gym"
  • Fixed issue with Bayberry Gym statues displaying the player as a winning trainer before the gym was even battled (due to it being set to "Defeated Gym 1" by mistake)
  • Deleted several non-essential graphics files, as well as the .rxproj file

Also, here's a preview of an area (it's the last playable area in the current demo) that's getting a major overhaul in a later release:

Route 55 New.png

(Screenshot shown is the updated version of the route not available in the demo. Final version will be different than both demo and screenshot.)

Had to revert back to v.0.5.3 due to accidentally deleting a graphics file pertaining to an event in the demo.

I am currently without internet, so it's easier to fix the issue by changing the link rather than trying to find a way to upload a new version. The event still occurs, but players find themselves talking to an invisible character.

In the meantime, I'll be prepping v.0.5.5 for upload as soon as possible!

You can fix the snow tiles a little or use these (sorry for the Polish answer earlier, I'm from Poland):

Just finished playing through the demo content. Nice little game so far. I enjoyed the nods to features and characters in some of the main series games. Based on some of the dialogue, I feel we have a similar sense of humour! I have a few points of feedback (I know you didn't ask for feedback, so feel free to ignore me), happy to message you privately on here or Discord, if you're interested/I'm allowed. Either way, looking forward to what's next for Helix!

UPDATE:

I'm working on v.0.5.6, but I had a computer crash and it resulted in data corruption that led to a significant loss of progress on the overall game. I'm working on double-checking all the bug fixes I had implemented recently, as well as adding in new stuff I had intended on adding.

I can't say when v.0.5.6 will be out, but hopefully it'll be soon!

Thanks for letting me know! I mislabeled the intro in the trainer event, so it's looking for a trainer that doesn't exist when the event gets triggered. I'm working on a fix for that in the next update, and I hope to have that out soon!

Just discovered that certain custom switch based events aren't working properly. None of these are game-breaking, but I'm going to work to fix them ASAP. An unfortunate byproduct of the PC crash I recently suffered. I had previously thought that only my maps were lost, but it appears so were several of the custom switches I had set up. And as a result, certain events aren't working properly.

I'll have these fixed soon, and will post when the updated project is posted.

I've posted a link for a patch folder in the main post, right under the link to the demo. This folder contains four files: Map081.rxdata, Map161.rxdata, Map251.rxdata and Tilesets.rxdata.

Copy these to your "Data" folder.

ESPECIALLY Tilesets.rxdata.

I guess in my rush to get out an update after my PC crashed and my files were corrupted, I didn't realize there was a major issue with the passage of some of my custom tiles. If you don't patch the game, you will find yourself unable to progress upon reaching Birchquartz Town.

The map files are less important fixes. One fixes the time-based vendor near the table in Birchquartz Town, another fixes music inside one of the houses in the town, and the third fixes an issue with fog persisting after leaving the most recent map added to the game. Two different vendors are supposed to appear in Birchquartz depending on whether it's day or night, but due to an error in how the event was set up, the daytime vendor appears in the day, but the nighttime vendor doesn't appear at all. For the other house, it's set to the same music as the town, but under a different file name, so when entering or exiting the house, the music restarts. Neither of these are critical issues, but again, the tileset issue is a gamebreaker.

I will be combing over all of my tilesets before releasing the next update to ensure that this isn't a problem anywhere else.

I was just made aware of another issue with impassible tiles on Route 50. I have updated the patch file to include a new updated tilesets.rxdata as well as Map003.rxdata

These should fix the issue with the map, as well as provide a slight visual update to the Route 50 exit/entrance of Maple Forest.

Updated the Tilesets.rxdata in the patch file again, this time to fix a terrain tag issue with the grass on Route 50.

Just posted another patch. This patch contains several map fixes as well as yet another updated Tilesets.rxdata. This also contains a new file for the Graphics folder. Just copy it to the Titles folder and replace the file named "splash". This will update the title screen to say "Demo v.0.5.7"

Pokemon Helix has been updated to v.0.5.7!

  • Fixed issue with fog persisting on Route 55 when exiting Bayberry Graveyard
  • Fixed passability issue with railroad tracks in Birchquartz Town
  • Fixed time-based merchants in Birchquartz Town
  • Fixed issue with music restarting when going in or out of Looker's House in Birchquartz Town
  • Updated battle backgrounds
  • Updated passability issue with Route 50 exit of Maple Forest
  • Updated passability issues in Bayberry Gym and Saur Tower (Download "Map110.rxdata" and copy it to the Data folder to fix passability issue in Bayberry Gym)
  • Various map fixes
  • Fixed crash when trying to battle Hex Maniacs in Bayberry Graveyard

Half of this stuff probably wouldn't have been in this update, or been an issue at all were it not for my computer crash and data corruption. Fortunately, I think at this point I have everything fixed that was messed up by the loss of data. I'm still rebuilding some maps, but since I've been working on maps and trainers in a completely non linear way, the lost maps that haven't been recovered are late game maps.

I had planned on opening up a few new areas with the next update, but I couldn't fix the Hex Maniac crashes with just map file uploads, and I hadn't properly fixed the Bayberry gym issue like I thought I had, so I pushed out a small update to fix those things, as well as add in the updated battle backgrounds.

Hey y'all.

I'm working on the next update, I've just been a bit busy. I'm overhauling most of the maps I plan on dropping in the next update, making sure they have all of their trainers and items, and double checking music to make sure it all loops properly.

Once all that is all set, I'm going to run a full playthrough test of the entire demo before releasing it. I've consistently dropped buggy releases, and I want to not do that as much going forward, as I know it reflects poorly on my project and me as a dev.

I'm aware that there is a Hiker on Route 55 whose battle sprite doesn't appear and that will be fixed in the next update.

Finished playtesting the next update, but I've decided to add more to it before release. So the wait will be a bit longer. This will likely be the biggest update I've released so far.

Happy New Year!

Pokemon Helix has been updated to v.0.6.1! This is easily the biggest update, at least doubling the number of available areas to explore! See the spoiler for the update notes.

Demo v.0.6.1 Change Log
  • Opened access from Kanjo Caves to Hydrangea City
  • Fixed error where Hiker Nicholas was not appearing in battle
  • Renamed Mail Pocket to Power-Ups Pocket
  • Moved Evolution Items, Vitamins, Mints, Rare Candies and Mega Stones to newly renamed Power-Ups Pocket
  • Various map fixes
  • Minor layout changes in Maple Forest, Route 50 and Birchquartz Town
  • Updated various attack animations
  • Updated the Region Map (modified placement of several locations, as well as added some new -though currently inaccessible- locations to the map)
  • Various metadata fixes
  • Modified Title Screen and Pause Menu
  • Modified Berry Mechanics. Added Mulch Maniac to Bayberry Mart
  • Increased base power of Strength, Cut and Rock Smash. Changed Cut to a Grass-type move and Strength to a Fighting-type move. Reduced PP of Cut.
  • Changed Rock Smash from TM104 to HM08
  • Added minor character customization. Players now have the choice of one of eight characters at the start of the game (4 male, 4 female)
  • Added approximately 100 additional Pokemon to the Merima Regional Dex
  • Added Name Rater to Pokemon Centers
  • Modified Bayberry Juice to heal status conditions instead of restore HP. Also fixed an issue where Bayberry Juice could not be used in battle.
  • Flash now reduces accuracy and causes confusion
