Released Pokemon: Lament of the Children

This project has a release available. The full version is still a work in progress.
In Pokemon: Lament of the Children, instead of being charged with a starter Pokemon, going on some grand adventure across a new or old region, battling your way to the League Challenge, and becoming the new regional Champion, your task is a only slightly different. As Adrian, you are tasked with keeping yourself alive as you collect items, explore, and find your way home.

I just remembered: The game has several events altered in the beginning that directly affect the rest of the game, so you will be forced to start over. I'm sorry in advance.

I don't know if I left anything resources out of this, but if I have, be sure I'll amend it with an update. Also, due to having limited time most of the week, this is currently missing credits for each individual resource. Luckily, I can fix all of that tomorrow, so that'll be taken care of as well.

Updates in Ep. 2, V. 1:
1. The BGM for Obsidian Manor was replaced and split into 2 different tracks to break up the single, repeating track.
2. The Duskull mid-boss battle was optimized with increasing difficulty as the number of candles are lit and now properly plays the ending event before being teleported back out.
3. The Alakazam boss battle was optimized with a slightly more difficult approach.
4. Some events were re-worded in the prologue of the game to make better sense and others were edited in ways that actually prevent progress in Ep. 2 and beyond.
5. Indicators that lets the player know when they start a new chapter.

The game has got a few errors like these-

The "you are dead" screen won't go away.
It has a few text errors here and there.
The first rattata event is triggered as many times as you stand beside the mewtwo statue
The gastlys when invisible are just too hard to pass through.
The music isn't creepy but irritating at times.
At a few places, you are teleported back to the first save point in the mansion.

Apart from these I haven't progressed much further due to gastlys, the game really is creepy and the story seems great. Perhaps you can add a bit more gameplay before going into the mansion.

At the end it's really a great game but needs polishing.

Thank you.

I've been working on an update, which fixes a lot of the issues in the game (I've got a large list to go through), some of which you mentioned above, such as the music volume being dropped in many areas, text issues, and warp points being wrong (I don't understand why either; All of that should've been changed.)

As for the Gastly, they are meant to be a pain. If you haven't made it past too far past Sebastian, then I'm sorry, as you'll really hate me about half to two-thirds. I may reduce the number of steps between each opacity change to help out if more people have difficulty with it.

Also, out of respect for you and everyone else that plays: Once you meet the Chef, do NOT attempt to finish the game. One map (an event specifically) is heavy broken and requires the speed/frequency settings being dropped to 4 to be beatable currently. Not a full update, but I have fixed the event I was speaking of and uploaded it.

It was brought to my attention that I forgot my resource pack. I'm sorry. Currently working on getting it all together to edit into the top post.

The game is alright, although I have a few issues with it.

The left Bookshelf event during the "collect 3 books" sequence (Shelf D) is missing the switch check (77: Retrieve Books).
The first Force Orb Box allows you to use it before collecting the force orb outside.
I would let Adrian pick up the piece of paper to read later for the fossil puzzle, but that's just me.
Event 12 on map 27: Dining Hall doesn't work properly and softlocks the game when Nibbler attack the Ratatta.
In the Duskull Boss Room, Map 21, event 14 (the lit 4 candles check) never runs Adrian's dialog and warps him out before it runs.

When putting the Ratatta heads on the pikes, the game should ask you if you want to put the heads on or not instead of just giving a Yes/No answer with no textual context.

Alakazam doesn't move fast enough to be actually be a threat, which kinda makes this whole chase thing pointless.
The boxes during the Alakazam Boss Room chase never appear because it's reusing a variable.

Not a bug, but I find the Ditto event in map 28 (Closet) to be a bit silly. How can a Ditto kill you? I understand Gastly and the Ratatta, but Ditto? I would have given Adrian either a chance to run away and lock the door behind him or let him duel the Ditto or something. Maybe have the Ditto transform into a copy of Adrian and you have to outsmart it to win? That's just me, though.

The music can get a bit repetitive, loud, and annoying at times.

Perhaps consider making the Game Over common event a bit better?

The credits move too fast and are hard to read.

Thank you for playing. I appreciate your feedback and lengthening of my work list, no sarcasm intended. Music seems to be a common thing between the four plays that I know of.

Thank you.

Lol! It is funny that you say that... I had started working on it again around September or October and am actually in the process finishing off the last few maps, editing another sprite, and adding a few more icons in the update, along with some alterations to the UI, Audio, and a few other 'surprises'.
On that note... Sadly, when I do release the update, a few variables were added and some events have been altered, which will soft lock gameplay further down the road, so it will have to be restarted. Luckily, the game isn't too terribly long ATM and I decided to do this now instead of further down the road.
Episode 2 shouldn't be much longer than the demo, maybe doubling game time, but I'm hoping that you and others will like it as well. Just a busy man who doesn't have much free time during the week.
