A "tail" split between two worlds.


Ralina is a young Skitty who's aspiring to be an author, but is feeling uninspired and finds life dull. After some words of encouragement from her mom and her partner, she decides to try and put herself out more into the world and discover what happens more in the day to day life of Viewside.
Alinra, a wandering Skitty, arrives at the Great Plains with a dream of getting stronger to defend her village by gathering Hi-Meds. What connects her to Ralina?
The two discover the world around them, interconnected but separate...


A game made in 42 days for Winter Jam 4.
Current Issues :

The game was made in basically 5 weeks due to the amazing amount of custom sprites I had to make with this style of overworld.
I hope I managed to flesh out the story enough to keep people hooked long enough.
Sorry about it just sort of abruptly ending in Northside, and the lack of npcs up there. My brain was fried by the end of the week and it would have been casual outfit characters, and I care more about my mental health than to pump more out lmao.

Updated the main post with a patch for errors provided to me by Mr. Kenny. Recommended download.

- Fixed an error where the game would keep returning to the title screen on fights in the Great Plains - Area 2
- Fixed a missing priority in Ralina's house
- Disabled the Trainer card as it was causing an error.
 
Finished the game. This was an adorable game with lots of fun characters!
Things I loved -
  • The use of sound effects and ambience, such as the sound of washing in the bathroom and the students talking in the academy. It made the game feel very immersive and alive.
  • Great music choices too. The bgs and bgm complemented each other well.
  • Alinra was an interesting character. I liked the concept of "broadening my horizons" by doing quests around the city. I'm interested to see her character development and how her relationship with Wilbur goes in the future.
  • How every Pokémon had a fun and distinct personality, such as the Slowpoke walking slowly. I even waited for the Slowpoke to catch up, and I was very happy you gave it additional dialogue.
  • The switch-up in gameplay in the plains. It was well-designed too. The items were helpful, and I liked how I could choose which Pokémon to level up with the hi-meds. The essentials deluxe crash with the items made the game slightly more difficult, but it's not your fault haha. The fights were challenging but also not too difficult.
  • You did a fantastic job with all of the sprites! My favourite ones were Wilbur, Dewott, Krokorok and Lillipup.
  • Doug.
But yeah, this was an enjoyable game, and I'm very interested to see where the story goes next. Good job!
 
Some thoughts:
Really amazing game, just completely oozes with charm and character. I loved all the character so much, even the alt world versions of them too. And even the extremely minor characters like Doug, for being hilarious, or the Monferno for naturally coming across as super shady but in the end just being a dude who likes card games.

Kenny touched on this, but I really liked how you contrasted the gameplay between the two worlds. In one half of the game you're a highschooler running errands and dealing with a love life, and then the other half of the game full embraces JRPG mechanics. Just really cool to have both of those genres in the game, and work so well side by side.

My only critique is about the whole "if you faint you return to your last save" feature. It isn't really explained to the player and you aren't prompted to save at any point. So I feel like it would be very easy for the player to be completely sent back to the start of the game if they are just going through in one session. I think some nice ways to keep the spirit of that mechanic but make it less likely to really screw over the player, would be either to communicate it, or to make it so that everytime you visit the purple crystals your game saves. You could even go full JRPG and disable saving and make it so you can only save at the crystals.

But yeah, amazing job, I love these characters, please let Wilbur and Ralina date.

Following on from Tom's stream, I've made a new patch with all the tiny errors I've seen fixed, and updated the main post.

Finished the game. This was an adorable game with lots of fun characters!

Well it's been a funny old week on Relic, but I've had a look into the more annoying bigger bugs in the game. Lucidious has updated Essentials Deluxe, and with that, the last item bug should be fixed. I've also gone and converted the map connections of Viewside into map transfers. Didn't want to do it, but it was a necessity. New download is in the original post as usual.

CHANGELOG:

- Fixed there being outdoor BGS in the bakery
- Fixed Weepinbell and Bellsprout's sprites having a weird move route
- Changed all of Viewside to be map transitions instead of being connected, fixing the tone bug
- Updated Essentials Deluxe, fixing the item bug (might require new saves though)

Hi, I found two additional bugs and one is game breaking:
1. After a quest (like bringing Cubone to her mom) the screen becomes black and stays like this until you load a new area
2. In the "Plains" Sprigatito triggers following error:

sorry for the late reply again, I've seen and sorted the first two issues. as for the last one, essentials has a weird issue with return to title screen since mkxp came into play apparently, but just restarting the game (not the save) should fix it

After watching the second part of Cade's journey, I saw a few bugs and adjustments that needed doing, so I applied all of them into a 1.0.6 patch.

v1.0.6
- Fixed an issue where the screen stays black in Cimpa's quest
- Moved Joltik's event so you can't accidentally get stuck on it.
- Fixed a teleport being wrong at the end of the demo
- Fixed the final cutscene being repeatable
- Fixed an issue where you couldn't sell to the Luwrib Shop
- Changed the Pokemon's moves in the Grubbin/Bellsprout fight (No, Mud Slap is staying)
- Changed the loss system back to a normal black out one, fixing the stuck on starting screen issue

Just finished the current demo and I have to say... I LOVE THIS GAME AND I SO VERY MUCH CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE STORY CONTINUES!!! 💕😍♥️

Seriously this was so much fun <3 Most of my feedback is the same as most everyone elses' (great vibes, writing, art in both the sprites and the mapping, the interesting mechanics etc) so don't have too much more beyond that the choice of species for a certain handsome lad left me absolutely cackling and if there are any more stealth gags in the future I am even more excited/hopeful for a continuation than before~ XD

None of these popped up with an error screen since they're more pathing/eventing softlocks but:

First one is the pathing that moves the party across to fight with the Bellsprout Grubbin fight - not sure why but first time I encountered them my characters got stuck and the little scene didn't continue. Think maybe I approached from just the wrong space and they got caught on something?

Second issue was during the 'Travel to Northside' bit. Decided to poke around the various exits and when I tried to enter Westside and it was meant to push me back, it pushed the characters down instead which retriggered the same 'no going this way' thing, pushed me down again, and repeated that over and over until I was shoved into the trees and unable to escape. (So lucky I'd saved right before that XD)

And... Listing this here because I'm not sure if it's an error or not: Are the mini revives meant to not work in battles? Cause they weren't working. Could select the item and hover it over one of my team but it wouldn't do anything past that point.
