About this event:
The Pixel Slam Jam is a friendly competitive event where participants create pixel art based on a theme. Submissions can be spliced sprites or scratch work, and do not have to fit the standards/limitations of Essentials or RMXP. If you have made something prior that happens to fit the current theme please do not submit it here; our goal with this event is to provide a fun exercise for our members. There is a special time window where submissions are accepted, and when that ends the judges take a short time after to collectively decide who to award and write up any critiques.

Event Objectives:
  • Show us an adorable Pokémon! And make sure you spook them up, as October is Halloween month!
  • While "gore" is in the title, keep it PG-13 please!
  • Post your pixel creation in this thread, and include your design thoughts with it!
  • Mention in your post if you'd like to receive critique during the Award Round.
  • Check back here after the conclusion to see who earned themselves a Pixel Slam Jam Badge!

Title: New Moon Teddiursa

A teddiursa with an unreadable face, it only appears on pitch black nights. Little is known about it. It seems to despise bright lights.

I thought of using teddiursa's moon marking to obscure it's eyes, and instead of a full moon used a darker new moon motif. I gave it smaller ears to give it less expression and larger more powerful limbs with bigger more dangerous claws. I didn't want to put actual blood on it so instead I used it's darker markings to imply stained limbs. I kept it's proportions relatively "cute" to balance out it's less friendly aspects.
I think it probably lives deep in caves where there is no light, and has trouble in bright environments. I wouldn't want to meet what it evolves into. Maybe it could be the first Ghost/Normal?

Munchie the Munchlax is ready for trick-or-treating! He's got his ghost costume (a little oversized and ripped but he's got the spirit) and his pumpkin treat bag.
Give him candy or else he'll body slam you!!

I'm trying to get better at spriting so this was great practice! I had a lot of fun making this!

I'm really not an artist so this isn't anything spectacular, I was also quite stuck on design ideas, so it is kinda bland. Just thought, hey, imagine a cute Surskit stuck in a pumpkin with its cute legs poking out.
Making this was really a challenge for me, but that's part of the learning process I guess. I'm proud that I was able to finish it to a standard that was better than I thought I could do. Here is to hoping I get even better at pixel art and can do art for fangames one day!

They say he hides out in the cornfields waiting to steal candy from unsuspecting trick-or-treaters... sometimes, at the cost of their lives!




The first "Cute" pokemon I thought of was a Squirtle, and now Squirtle is a scarecrow.
I don't really do anything sprite-related ever so this is technically the first custom sprite that I've made. I actually had a really fun time making this and would love to have any/all feedback!

Every project has a few guidelines and regulations that entities must abide by, so we usually take away key possessions that could be considered hazardous to the main script.

But erm, I don't think we hid Shuppet's knife well enough.

Was kind of slacking on this, but I didn't want to miss the deadline and I was honestly stuck anyway (how do I account for the darkness shadow lmao). Pixel Slam Jam was my first community event and while I've grown a lot as a dev since then, I honestly haven't bothered to practice scratch pixel art since that VERY first event, so this was an extremely fun learning experience! Feedback is totally welcome! I'd love to get better and better at this.

Mudkip has entered a place where he should not visit but then the darkness has corrupted this little Mudkip and no one will see this Mudkip same as before.

Before i made this, i have finished my assignment then i found this event, so i was thinking "maybe a little pixel art in a little time will make me feel better", so i choose Mudkip because it's a cute pokemon then start making this. There's not much going on in this but it's really fun doing it.

Feedback please.
