Released Miragea's Traveler 🌿

This project has a release available. The full version is still a work in progress.
Project Status
Work in Progress
Miragea needs you!

As a rookie member of the Trainer Union, it’s your mission to help people, protect Pokémon, and safeguard the natural world.
Climb the ranks from 1 to 6, but be careful: not all your fellow Union members are on your side.
While Union Leader John wrestles with a growing number of missing person cases, Poachers lurk in each area, exploiting Pokémon for profit whenever they can.

FEATURES:

  • Story-driven gameplay based on your Union Rank (no Gyms, but Rank Battles!)
  • Custom character portraits to bring emotional cutscenes to life
  • Simplified Hidden Base with customizable furniture – and a few surprises to discover!
  • Mega Evolution available later on
  • Exploration-first design: optional routes, secrets, and side content
  • Unlock new, free-roam areas as you climb the ranks: forests, beaches, haunted mansions, fairy woods, deserts, snowy mountains, and more
  • Custom battle backgrounds for many locations
  • Balanced difficulty: challenging but fair, without endless grinding
  • No wild battle music - except for boss fights
  • A few, optional Fakemon
  • Most weak Pokémon are useful now!

IMPORTANT:

If you have any errors, don't comment "Game glitches, pls help" - explain what happens, when it happens, if it's the first time you start the game, send a screenshot, or else I can't help you!

NOTES:

This is my first major project! I'm still learning a lot and would love any bug reports, feedback about the characters, or general impressions! 🌟

How's the difficulty? Who did you like the most and who made the most problems? How's the level-curve?

You can play till reaching rank 3 in this demo. Be careful and save a lot, in case you encounter any bugs that crash the game! Tried my best to fix them with one other person playtesting, but it's impossible to find them all ;w;

You also can explore the third area a bit if you like to, "Crimson Area". Though it's unfinished, there aren't any NPCs yet!

Thanks so much for checking it out! c:

Which one? The dragon one isn't done yet, things are work in progress. I finish the designs first before editing the stats c: the bug one is done, dragon eevee isn't obtainable yet anyway.
Oh, I see. Btw, incredible game. My only critique thus far is to tone down the difficulty when you get through the Sapodilla Woods, as half of the stuff there is fully evolved against many mons the player has that are not fully evolved.

This one is a bug: Greninja's icon is missing.
Thanks! And about your other comment:
I've talked with my playtester about it and came to the conclusion, that I'd need more opinions like yours, since no one complained about that so far o:
And with level 25-30, many Pokemon will be evolved, depending on what the player has in their team c:
Since you can heal in your secret base or at the nurse in that forest, it's easier to have challenging battles without having to backtrack every time. Though I will look at the movesets and try to find alternatives, if I notice some trainers use too strong TMs c:

I see. Anyways, I finished the game. It feels like Mystery Dungeon, but instead of being with Pokemon, it's with Trainers and with an anime shoujo 2000s aesthetic, with bits of Desolation's style. Aside from that difficulty step (probably didn't help that I had half my team that couldn't evolve by normal means), I didn't had any problems with the difficulty. I enjoyed the story, quite cliche with some of the tropes and characters, but it's nice thus far. I liked a lot how you can interact in the secondary missions with the population that lives within the towns, with some stuff here and there to make things interesting. It feels like you're impacting the world at a small scale, which is very nice. Aside from that, is it possible to enable move animations? The game would feel more inmersive that way.

Thank you so much for your feedback! <3
I'd love to know which things were cliche to you, so I can try and avoid that in the future c:
And move animations? You mean in battle? Not sure what you mean there, because it as move animations and they're turned on by default o:

Huh, then no idea why I didn't had any animations in battle. Also, mind you, cliche isn't bad per se, but Ava felt a little like that, but it make sense with her character and it is an interesting spin, so I didn't mind.

Hmm... did you have the animations folder and everything else in the game folder? And the animations turned on in the options? o: My playtester said, she had animations, so I'm not sure how to fix your problem ;w;
But well, you're done anyway :D
And yeah, Ava has a good reason to be like this and change the way she does c:

Played up to the end of the first rank battle. I'm really enjoying the game so far, so here are some of my thoughts!

Positives:
  • Characters are really fun! (Especially Scarlett, she's my fav rn) And the portraits/mugshots really bring them to life
  • The maps are very pretty, and feel nice to explore.
  • I love all the little animations when the characters interact with each other or other Pokemon
  • Difficulty feels fair

Only nitpick was that the level jump after the Taiga/Cedric battle feels really steep. I know there is a cave of Audinos to grind in, but them constantly spamming baby doll eyes and cosmic power kind of hurts.

Other than that, it's really well made and as much as I like the charm of the story, I hope it does take a bit of a darker turn. But I'm looking forward to playing more/finishing the demo.

(also I haven't encountered really any bugs, other than a few random priority issues with some of the small trees, so nice job with that!)

Thank you so much for your feedback so far! May I ask why you like Scarlett? (Do you like her as a "person" or the way her character is build?)
About the level: Do you mean the rank 2 battle itself? Or when you reach the Sapodilla area? When it's about the rank battle... I had two people tell me before, the level is too low, so I made it higher. One person still says, it could be higher. But I already was a bit anxious because my level wasn't that high either while playtesting + I didn't want the first area to end with the player already level 30 ;-;
How many level should I take away in your opinion? And I'd be happy if you send me screenshots of tileset-bugs. Here or on discord: cinnayvalov

1. I liked her character, she very much strays from the from the cliche's I see in many female characters in other fan games (not being super kind/immediate attached to the main character)

2. I think lowering the fight to 23-25 (25 being the ace) would be alrightl. Most players aren't going to fight every trainer in the area, and will often come out lower level than you might expect.

Oh I see, thanks! It's really interesting to see how other think about those characters, since they just see what's on the outside and not all those notes and thoughts from me in the background c:
And I've lowered the level a tiny bit now! Though I think players that actually battle most trainers shouldn't be punished with being too overleveled either o:

Hey, so I don't know if you've updated the download since the initial release, but all I get when starting a new game is what seems to be a test map with a few NPCs milling around, and two of them that seem to test the quest system etc. but only crash the game.

Oh nooooo yeah, seems like I forgot to set the right starting point, I'll fix that asap and update the link! D:

Edit: Updated the link! Should work now!

Alright, so having played through all the available missions and main story, I have some feedback.
First of all, I absolutely love the atmosphere of this game, it's super cozy and while the characters are pretty straightforward, they work well for this kind of game. Overall, this is shaping up to be a fantastic game!

A few things I see as issues in need of fixing or adjusting:
  • The level curve. I know it's been pointed out before, but it is much too steep between ranks, both 2 and 3. I battled every single trainer twice before the second region, and I was barely at an equal level with the trainers there. Same thing when entering the third region, and that was after being pretty damn over-leveled for the latter third of the second region.
  • Money. While I understand maybe trying to limit the amount of item cheese players can use, currently I would say that either everything is much too expensive or you earn way too little money.
  • Mega stones. Maybe I missed something, but as far as I can tell, the only way to get any mega stones is to collect shards in the cave that resets daily, which takes away from the triumphant feeling of acquiring that mega ring. I'd suggest maybe giving the player a choice between a couple of mega stones when you first get the ring.
  • The Gracidea doesn't seem to work on Shaymin, maybe that's intentional for now, but figured it was worth pointing out.

I do love how relatively easy it is to find some good mints, but with how little money you get and how pricey items are, it's still a huge pain to get EVs the way you want them without having to grind like a maniac, and making that process easier would also alleviate the need for fine-tuning the trainer levels in the future, but those are just my two cents.
Again, absolutely love what you're doing, keep it up! Can't wait to see where this game goes next!

Thank you for your detailed feedback! Great to hear that you liked the game in general c:

About Shaymin: That's weird. I just tested it myself, and it changed into the sky form when I used the gracidea on it. Did you use it directly on shaymin?

And about the cave: But that means, you can get a mega stone right away if you collect shards in that cave o: Not every mega stone can be bought right away, but a few, so it's easy to get one c:
A few also can be found, but later when you reach area 3.
There's one mega stone the that still needs to be put into the game, maybe I'll use that opportunity to make Nathan gift it to the player too, since it's for a regional variant I created afterwards.

I'll fix the money problem right away. And about the level curve, I'd like to dm you, for a few questions. I hope that's fine for you!

How odd, changing forme worked now, all of a sudden, after having given me the same "nothing happened" message before. Oh well.
And yes, do feel free to DM me! I'd be happy to help in any small way I can.

Hey, gotta say i really liked the game and i almost reach the end part of the demo. Although can i ask what is the music for the Trainer Union's place? i cannot find the definitive music on the audio folder.

Alrighty thanks. Also i could give you an advice for the game if you liked to. Like, maybe added some option like No EV's, since not all people like to grinding stats. Although this is a strange request, but i wanna know if you could add the third option for the main character (Maybe a boy, but that's up to you). Oh and i almost forget, maybe for something like HM's. It's kind of outdated for such thing as HM's nowadays, maybe you could add items that let you surf, dive, strength, and every other HM as i bet many people don't like to remove a move for adding HM to their pokemon movesets.

Also where did you able to get some of these good musics? I really loved it.

I won't include various modes as solo dev (Easier without EVs, harder with EVs). Especially because it's easy to overlevel with the audino cave, if it's too hard for a player. And the AI isn't that smart anyway, even if they use strong Pokemon.

About HMs, I thought about including a plugin for that. But you only need surf and strength, no other HMs. So I don't feel it's necessary really. Especially since most players use surf anyway.

I also hate designing male characters haha ;w; feel like I can be more creative with females. But I started to work on a male character anyway. He's done, but the implemenation into the game might take a while, since I have to change each event that shows a character portrait. (Also overhauling the other sprites and portraits, that's why they look different when you follow that link)

About the music: It's just regular Pokemon Music, a lot from Mystery dungeon. PMD has great music in general haha :D
