Story

A new story set in the Latentverse, first seen in Latent - Prologue and later expanded upon with White Rose and Faerïs.

The Latentverse is set in a singular planet stuck in a never-ending repeating cycle.
Every few years, decades or centuries, the lonely planet where the Latentverse games takes place Transitions to a new Age.
A Transition is the planet violently resetting and reshaping itself as it changes from Age to Age, due to "The Event".
This game is set during such a Transition.

The Ostent Age is coming to a close and the Cadent Age is soon to begin. The planet weathers away as it morphs and changes.

You are Carac e'Kalint, a former Knight of Esyn, the God-Queen of Life and Rebirth.
Esyn is the Royal-Deity who was locked away long ago for trying to save planet before the events of Faerïs.
To some, however, She is seen more as the God-Queen of Death.
You see Her as such, as during the Lucent Age, She left you for dead and slew all your brethren for your rebellious actions against Her.

Thus you, Carac, at the end of this baleful Age, have set out to find a White Orb. With it, you are able to make it past this Transition unscathed.
Esyn will surely be trying to find an Orb as well and this will offer a chance for you to enact your revenge against Her.

Gameplay

This is a simple singleplayer game. You take the role of Carac e'Kalint as you explore small regions in search for an Orb.

The game features 4 different endings (one of which may have different dialogue depending on two specific triggers).

Just finished playing!
I liked it, I guess starting off with the gameplay, obviously the game was pretty limited in what the player can do. You can walk, you can talk, and you have a jump button but it doesn't really do much. I thought the gameplay was alright, but some of the backtracking did feel unnecessary or not fulfilling enough. I'd go back to a town, small area would change to now have a flower, I'd pick it up, then go back to the town I came from. Having some interesting story event take place, or have something in the town change substantially would help it feel less like a pure bland fetch quest.

What I really did like in the gameplay was that one puzzle where you control two players! It still uses all the same simple mechanics of just walking, but I had to think and it was fun! I do wish that the game was willing to put in more cool puzzles like that.

The soundtrack of this game was very good, you could feel it pick up in intensity after certain scenes, and it really helped add to the overall atmosphere.
Similarly, the art is probably THE highlight of the game. I liked how many little animations were in the game, I loved the colors, I loved all the "creature" designs. All super well done.

Now the story, obviously it's a big focus for the game. There is a lot of stuff about the world and the story that I don't understand, and that's just what happens when a foreign lore rich world is designed and the player is plopped into it without understand anything. The important thing is that the player can understand enough about what they are actually doing. The player doesn't need to know this world's periodic table, and maybe they can learn it if they read some books on the shelf, but if they don't really understand what they are doing, they aren't really going to enjoy the story at all. And I think this game did a decent job of straddling that balance. After beating the game, I still don't really understand much. But I know there are loops, and orbs which let characters pass through loops. Nice orbs and orbs with consequences. We are a knight of some chick, but the chick is kinda mean to us, but also we did a bad job of being a knight once. And that was enough for me to care about the story. However, I do wish some stuff was clearer. The way I was interpreting certain things led to some information feeling contradictory. Ghen telling me that essentially people are born anew with new memories and new personalities vs me remembering the missions that Esyn sent me on and still being her knight, meaning that in each cycle we are still the same people? You need orbs to carrying on through cycles, but everyone is reborn every cycle anyway? I'm sure there is some way that it all makes sense but it's just lost on me.

EDIT: Okay I just read the description. What I personally don't like, is that the thread description tells me everything I learnt from playing through the whole game and more. While playing, I felt like I was slowly getting more information, but if I had read the description beforehand, it would've all been stuff I already knew.

Overall, really cool game. And I think out of all the latentverse games I've played, the one where I've been most interested in the story. Great work to the whole team!

I reached the ending and the text said "Ending 5 bug - post it on the forums" I wasn't sure what to screenshot exactly though cause it took me straight to the ending as soon as I interacted with the sprite that said it.

Great game overall! I played your other games and I love the universe / story being built here.
