Full gameplay:

Download: Zelda

Made using Unity Engine + Nintendo 3DS SDK

Team:

Manurocker95

Notes:

As the Nintendo 3DS SDK for Unity is pretty unstable it can have random crashes and may need to restart the game. Don't worry, it won't make you lose the progress you made in the game as the game is saved everyime the level is finished.

Resources: Zelda

Credits:

The resources used in this game comes from a mixture of Kenney Asset Packs. They are all listed here (even the ones not fully used as I may have taken just one piece and modify it):

Professor Climora's theme and some others are from Tōzoku to 1000 Biki no Pokémon (an official japan exclusive 3DS game) downloaded from here: https://mega.nz/folder/lV0gkTRR#vkFwgqACSPJFPHGZLlxaTA

Some SFX and cries are taken from Pokémon Essentials SE and ME.

The Pokémon 3D models were downloaded from XY VGResources: https://www.models-resource.com/3ds/pokemonxy/

It's not the same experience as this jam project was mainly designed for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U but it now works on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Vita!

If you can make 3d game oras style in 3ds and vita my life is not your's (I'm not type of person that love exaggerating and I'm high maintenance so I don't know if you can keep feed me lol) joke aside yeah i hope someday you can make full region with gym and league game in 3d. Love this game and your punching game hitmonchan game. See you on next game 🎉🎉👍

Updated the UI that was exclusive to bottom screen to just one screen on PC, Vita and Nintendo Switch in version 1.0.3:

Also compiled the game for PlayStation 3! Playable through emulator (RPCS3 or by DEX/CEX CFW).

Hey! I just tried playing the windows version, unfortunately I ran into some issues that meant I couldn't progress past the 4th level.

1. In the first level, after hearing the tutorial talk, I wasn't able to move my character with arrow keys or wasd key. I have no idea why this happened, but when I reloaded the game and tried again, the controls worked perfectly.

2. In level 4, if I become a rain form castform, and then try to interact with lava, the game will get stuck and softlock

3. In level 4, I'm not really able to progress at all? I'm not sure what the weird lock thing is, but after I become a sun castform, I can't do anything and I get stuff being surrounded by water. When I move up and down, an "interact" prompt flashes briefly but quickly disapears. And spamming interact in every direction on both of the two squares, facing any of the directions, doesn't seem to do anything.

I thought what I played was cool, I'm just sad I didn't get to try the later levels because I wanted to see how the puzzles would deepen with complexity.

Thanks for the feedback, I will check it all out and try to have a new version today with these fixed!

The first issue you mentioned is not happening to me on editor, n3ds, nor vita nor windows... it's weird.

Regarding 2 and 3, the issue with the lava + rainy form is fixed. It was due to the model not referencing the correct animation and unity directly skips the rest of the code. The solution for the puzzle is the following: you are meant to increase the lava with the sunny form after evaporating the water through the solar panel. Here you have a video :)

Managed to reproduce the Windows bug. No idea why but sometimes the saved data doesn't get properly serialized and the index of the tutorial array gets out of bounds. That will be 100% fixed on v1.0.4.

Just finished playing all 9 levels on windows! Here are my thoughts, my experience reflects the windows experience, I have no idea what may be different on other versions.

I liked the presentation and premise a lot. The idea of running these weather simulations to try to find a real life solution is a fun framing device. And it fits the level boxy gamey designs. However I do wish the the level mechanics pushed the player a bit more. None of the levels were challenging, and most of them could be done without thinking more than 1 step ahead. You just change to the avaliable form, use it to access a new area, change to that avaliable form, use it. and clear. The cycling gimmick in level 7 was my favourite, and the level that did actually make me think a bit. I thought it was cool, and with maybe a UI update to reflect how many moves you have left and the next weather, it would be a really nice gimmick to help complicate more of the levels.

And sort of tying into that, I did really like the medal system of rewarding the player for figuring out how to minmax the level movement. It's just a shame that in most levels you didn't need to think that hard to find the shortest path. If the levels had evolved more, I could see this being a really nice level of challenge for the players who wanted more.

Small nitpicky stuff:
-The solar panel thing graphic was a bit odd. I'm not really sure what it's supposed to represent but to me it looks like a lock, which doesn't really reflect being able to dry all the water.

-In level 8 minum and plusle were a bit odd? I'm not sure if they just weren't working, but after "rescuing" them, they still just stood there, and there was a sunny panel behind them that I could reach, but I couldn't imagine what use that sunny panel would have anyway. But I guess I did rescue them because the level let me complete it. But yeah, they didn't add much to the level because they were right next to the exit anyway.
EDIT: I took another look at level 8 and I see that the sunny form is behind minum and plusle because you could get there without drying the land first. But currently on the windows version its impossible to walk past minum and plusle anyway so you can't do that

-level 9 felt like one of the most simple levels. I happened to cycle into rain form next to the water, and that let me just cross to the exit without doing anything else. I was a little disappointed that the last level felt like one of the shortest and the easiest.

This next point is a nitpick, but I felt like it detracted significantly from the experience unfortunately. A lot of the animations just felt unnecessarily slow, and most of my time in the game was just watching animations. The easiest change that I think would help would be making tiles fill up in 1 turn instead of 2. I don't see anything added to the game by making you have to interact twice every time you want to fill a hole with lava or rain. It just felt like an already slow interaction was being made even slower.

Sorry if this all sounded pretty negative, but I do want to say, while I do think that this game has a lot it can improve on, already it is one of the most impressive games of the jam just by the fact that you make a functioning, original game, with original mechanics. And I really like that you put in the work to make this playable on a variety of consoles. I hope you continue working on unique games like you already have been. Thank you so much!

I might make a classic jrpg for 3DS and Wii U some day. I just feel lazy to do so (due to the lack of public assets and the huge optimization it requires).

Btw, no idea why the 3DS version crashes on retail with latest luma3DS but not on Citra nor Folium nor Azahar. Can anyone confirm? It makes no sense at all...
No idea why,

In addition and not idea why either, on PSVita the text inside buttons look off. No freaking idea why as those don't change between versions. It looks like a Unity 2018.2 bug that was not present on 2017.1, nor 5.6.6... nor windows platform xD

Heya! Just finished the game and I thought it was a cute little game. I pretty much agree with Tom, especially about the slow animations. Another thing I was confused about was the two different colored waters behaving differently. But other than that, this was a nicely made game. It's always impressive how you can create these games across so many platforms. Good job!

I had to rush to develop the game in less than two weeks with only public stuff so it was a bit of a challenge but thanks! I will try to make more polished stuff for next game jams and events :)
