Welcome to the celestial land of Tenno! Known for its futuristic technology and advanced space program, the Tenno Region thrives thanks to the ambitions and benevolence of Team Planetary, an organization dedicated to the region's betterment. You start your Pokémon journey in the Tenno Region like many other trainers, but soon you and your childhood friend/rival witness a more sinister side of Team Planetary. They steal property and take Pokémon, all supposedly in the name of saving the region. Can the ends justify the means? As the only witnesses to these heinous acts in a region that idolizes the villains, it’s up to you to stop them while striving to become the Tenno Champion. Blast off on an out-of-this-world journey of astronomical proportions!
sol-version-switch-2-cover-2.png
Pokémon Sol Version is a fan project that aims to create a traditional Pokémon experience using Pokémon Essentials on RPG Maker XP. It is a part of the Cosmic Quest Project, and is technically the "third version" to the hypothetical Luna and Terra Versions. Currently released is a work-in-progress beta test/demo. What's a beta/demo? I explain in detail here. The main campaign is essentially complete and you can play the entire story up until the credits roll, but there is currently no post-game content. That will come in future updates, as discussed here. But, feel free to keep on exploring the region and completing missed optional content until then.

Important Notes
  • This game is in beta and is an unfinished product. While playing, expect to encounter glitches and game crashes. If you do, please report them, as explained in the "Reporting Issues" section below.
  • Due to the chances of encountering a game crash, I recommend saving your game frequently, especially before and after difficult or important battles or after long story events.
  • The game is essentially complete up until the credits roll. That means you can play the entire main story, but there are no post-game elements added yet. Future updates to come.
  • This game is designed to be a traditional and authentic Pokémon experience. It will not contain features common to fan games, such as a speed-up button.
  • This game is designed to play more like the earlier Pokémon games (Gens I through V), rather than the more modern ones. As such, it may require more effort and thought to beat than you might be used to from modern Pokémon games.
  • The game features the classic version of Exp. Share, rather than the modern version which distributes experience among all Pokémon in the party automatically. An Exp. All item, which functions like the modern Exp. Share, does exist in the game, but it is a reward for a side quest that spans the entire region and cannot be obtained until the very end of the game. It is better to think of it as a post-game item.
  • One aspect of real Pokémon games that could not be replicated by this game is interactions with other players. This means it would usually be impossible to evolve Pokémon that require being traded. However, if you want to evolve such a Pokémon, just show a Pokémon that evolves through trade to the woman on the second floor of any Pokémon Center and she'll give you a special item that can evolve these Pokémon instead.
  • Certain aspects of this game may be incompatible with JoiPlay. I have received reports of graphic display issues, random lag, and missing sound effects, all coming from JoiPlay, rather than any specific issue with the game.
  • JoiPlay prevents players from skipping the opening movie. Players using JoiPlay should either delete or rename the folder titled "Movies" within their "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. This will cause the game to automatically skip the movie. This will have to be done every time the game is updated.

Download v0.1.11 Here
(Updated 4/30/26)
No Hotfix Currently Required

If you need help getting things working after downloading from this link, see here for instructions. Once you've downloaded the most recent version, apply the the most recent hotfix (if applicable) as explained below.

Update Instructions: If you've already downloaded an older version of Sol Version and are looking to update, simply delete your outdated "Pokémon Sol Version" folder and download the current version from the above link. Your save data will transfer over automatically.
Hotfix Instructions: If and only if there's a hotfix download link listed below the regular download link, then you'll need to apply the hotfix to Sol Version to play the most up-to-date version. Click the link to download a file called "Game.rgssad" and move that file into your "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. When it asks you if you want to replace the existing file, say yes. Now your game is up to date. You should always try to have to most recent hotfix applied to your game. If you've just installed Sol Version for the first time and a hotfix is available, you should apply the hotfix right away.

Reporting Issues
As this is a work-in-progress beta build of the game, expect to find glitches and other issues. Please report any issues you come across while playing. You can report them here, or send me an email at CosmicQuestProject@gmail.com. As much information as you can provide on the context of the issue, as well as screenshots if possible, is very helpful. If there's an error message, a picture or copy of the exact message would be of great assistance. The game's error log, with a list of all error messages you've received can be located in your file explorer under Users>[Your Name]>AppData>Roaming>Pokémon Sol Version. AppData is only visible if you first click the "View" tab, and then check the box labeled "Hidden Items." From there, you can copy and paste the exact error message, with the newest errors on the bottom. It is my hope that working together we can remove all of the issues that remain undiscovered in this game and we can move it ever closer to a final release.

Known Issues
  • Sometimes when an ability's name displays in battle, it will instead display the name of the Pokémon's other ability. This is a purely visual bug. The proper ability is still activating.
  • Sometimes the game will crash when transitioning from the opening movie to the title screen. If this happens, you can simply relaunch the game and skip the movie to circumvent the crash.
  • A handful of Tenno Pokémon are still a work in progress and do not yet have certain graphics. For a complete list of Pokémon missing some or all of their graphics, see here.
  • Any Mega Evolved Pokémon not listed here is not yet available in the game, even if a Mega Stone is obtainable. The Mega Stone is a placeholder and will not work.

Additionally, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, you can grab a special event-exclusive item, the VR Cartridge Red, via Mystery Gift as well! Take this item to the scientist on the top floor of Game Freak Tower in Kanaveral City to participate in a very special 30th anniversary battle. Hey think this is a bug cuz parabox's ability doesn't activate no matter what I do and I've already gotten far into the game and seen it's sprite so it really sucks that I can't get it to work even though it sounds cool

Okay. Thanks for letting me know. I'll look into it. It was working back when I tested it, but sometimes things just seem to break randomly after I test them. I have an update coming out very soon, so if you want to hold off on progressing for a bit, hopefully I'll have that fixed for you.

EDIT: I've found and fixed the issue. Turns out that when I added the functionality of Pokémon having second abilities, it broke the Uncertainty ability in the process. Since I never tested Parabox again after that, I never saw it was broken. An update coming very soon will have the fix. Sorry about that.

30th-anniversary-logo-heliosol-ascended.png

February 27th, 2026 marks 30 years since Pokémon Red and Blue were released in Japan. I’m sure my work speaks itself when I say that Pokémon has played an extremely important role in my life. In fact, I was born in 1996 as well, so even being on the older side of the fanbase, I’ve never even lived in a world without Pokémon. (And oh my goodness, I’m nearly 30…) So, I just want to wish Pokémon a happy anniversary. Here’s to 30 more years.

Anniversary Logos

You might have seen some of the Japanese logos for the 30th anniversary, featuring a variant logo for every single Pokémon there is, as well as a handful of special ones for various games, pillars, and events of the franchise. I wanted to get Tenno Pokémon in on the action as well. In addition to the Heliosol logo above and the Terratlas and Seluna ones I’ve put out over the past few days, I’ve created an unique logo for every Tenno Pokémon that has a full artwork. Additionally, I’ve created logos for the pillars of the Cosmic Quest Project; Cosmic Quest, Sol Version, Mystery Dungeon: Cosmic Destiny, and The Team Rocket Movie/Team Rocket Takeovers. Here's a collage I put together featuring all of them:

30th-anniversary-background.png

If you're looking for a closer look at all of them, I provide one here.

Sol Version v0.1.10 Update

Of course, I couldn’t celebrate such a major Pokémon milestone without letting Sol Version get in on the action. I’ve come up with a fun way to celebrate the anniversary for players of Sol Version.

mystery-gift-vr-cartridge-red-1.png

Starting today and lasting until the end of 2026, players will be able to receive a special event-only item, the VR Cartridge Red, via Mystery Gift. Once you receive this nostalgic item, bring it to the upper floor of Game Freak Tower in Kanaveral City, where you’ll find a new Scientist. Speak to him and show him the VR Cartridge Red to gain access to a new special battle. This battle will have two modes of difficulty: Normal Mode and Master Mode. Normal Mode is unlocked automatically, while Master Mode is unlocked after defeating the Elite Four, making it the first post-Elite Four challenge battle available in Sol Version. Trust me when I say that you don’t want to miss either of these battles. It’s a very special surprise waiting for you. And once you defeat it, all Pokémon that participated in the battle will be awarded with an exclusive ribbon. You will be able to repeat this battle once a day. Aim to beat both modes, as they offer different experiences. You must update to v0.1.10 before you can receive this Mystery Gift.

Additionally, the currently running Flying Pikachu Mystery Gift has received a special update! Once you update to v0.1.10, Pikachu will use Fly with a special unique animation. Try it out for yourself. You only have five days left to claim this special gift!

mystery-gift-flying-pikachu.png

Moving on to the more regular aspects of this update, I am pleased to announce that all the Mega Evolutions introduced from Legends: Z-A and the Mega Dimension DLC now feature their proper back sprites and party preview sprites. You can now really feel like you’re properly using these Pokémon.

As for content, I’ve made a relatively significant update to Sol Version. When I play-tested the game, I found that somewhere between the second gym and the Starstreak Mountains Team Planetary encounter, was were I fell behind the level curve of the game the most. In my mind, that was okay, as I want there to be some effort involved in the training in this game. However, I do admit that it was a bit much, and reports from players have confirmed that that specific part of the game is the worst offender.

In order to make the experience better for everyone moving forward, I’ve added a handful of new trainers to battle on Routes 5, 6, 7, and 16. The hope is that these new trainers during the problem section will help players keep to the level curve without needing to train against wild Pokémon as much, if at all. I have made nearly all of these trainers avoidable for players who may not want to deal with any increased difficulty of additonal trainers.

I took the opportunity of adding new trainers to add an additional trainer class to the game. Several of the new opponents are Backpackers, a trainer class previously missing from Sol Version. On top of that, several of them are Campers and Picnickers, two trainer classes which were only used once each in the original release. Similarly, I focused on giving these new trainers teams that use Pokémon that were only previously used by one or two other trainers in the entire game. Altogether, this should greatly increase the variety of opponents faced in the game.

Download the update from the original post.

Changelog:

  • Added new trainers to Routes 5, 6, 7, and 16.
    • Added Backpacker as a new trainer class.
  • Added a special 30th anniversary celebration battle to Game Freak Tower triggered by having the VR Cartridge Red event item.
  • Added an alternate animation for Fly that will play when Pikachu uses the move.
  • Added the sprites for Mega Vespiquen, Spritning, Germite, and Bryolith to the game. Spritning, Germite, and Bryolith also had their back sprites added.
  • Added back sprites and party sprites for all the previously introduced Mega Evolved Pokémon from Legends: Z-A and Mega Dimension.
  • Disabled Escape Rope usage in the Sunken Ship to avoid a softlock it caused.
  • Fixed the speed of the Bike so it actually feels faster than running.
  • Repaired the functionality of Parabox’s Uncertainty ability, allowing the Pokémon to form change as intended.
  • Allowed Tennoan Magnezone to learn Tri-Attack via the Move Reminder.
  • Removed Heal Pulse from Cygnus’ Yuifoe in the final Planetary Commander battle so it won’t heal the player.

There’s only just under two days left to claim the 30th Anniversary Flying Pikachu Mystery Gift. And don’t forget, it’s been given a special animation when it uses Fly. Don’t miss out!

As for out next Mystery Gift…

mystery-gift-ditto.png

Let’s celebrate the release of Pokopia with a special Ditto distribution! This Ditto will come with its signature hidden ability, Imposter. And, for all you breeders out there, this Ditto will come with perfect IVs! And what about it’s moves? Well, it knows Transform, of course!

Additionally, I have one more Mystery Gift announcement to make. Tonight/tomorrow morning features a lunar eclipse, an event dubbed by some as a bloodmoon. As such, it’s the perfect time for a special repeat distribution!

mystery-gift-ursaluna-repeat.png

Bloodmoon Ursalua, originally distributed back in July 2025, is once again available for two days only! You’ve got until March 3rd at 11:59 PST! If you missed out on it originally, this could be your only chance to get this rare Pokémon. If you already received the Bloodmoon Ursalunna gift last year, you will not be able to receive it again this time. Available now! Don’t miss out!

Very soon and all mons at least have a Front sprite so i can finally enjoy the Game huh? :D

(Still waiting for at least that to be happen)

Very soon and all mons at least have a Front sprite so i can finally enjoy the Game huh? :D

(Still waiting for at least that to be happen)

We're getting very close. Only missing a small handful of them now. As far as actual new Pokémon go, we're only missing one. There's also only one missing Tennoan Form and three missing Mega Evolutions.

The Bloodmoon Ursaluna repeat and Flying Pikachu distributions have both concluded and the Pokopia Ditto Mystery Gift is live.

Okay, I've got control over my account back. Sorry about that lapse.

In order to keep Team Rocket happy and not taking over my stuff again, I've agreed with them to keep Pokémon Sol Version: Team Rocket Takeover Edition available for download for another week. You have until 11:59 PM PDT on April 8th to download this alternate version of the game. after that, it will no longer be available. So, if you think you might want to play it in the future but don't have time right now, I suggest downloading it now, just in case.

Mystery Gift Announcement:

The Pokopia Ditto distribution is set to end in just over two days. Grab it while you have the chance.

As for our next distribution, seeing as Pokémon Sol Version has a thematic connection to space exploration in real-life, it seems only fitting to celebrate yesterday's launch of the Artemis II mission, which is sending humans out of Earth orbit and towards the Moon for the first time in over 50 years.

mystery-gift-lunatone-1.png

Celebrate the historic Artemis II mission to the Moon with with a Lunatone baring the Artemis OT. This Lunatone will have it's hidden ability, Total Eclipse, marking not just the first time in Sol Version it's available, but the first time period, as Lunatone has never had a hidden ability before. It's ability to summon the Full Moon weather will fit perfectly with its lunar moveset, consisting of Lunar Beam, Nightstorm, Moonblast, and Moonlight.

The Artemis' Lunatone with a hidden ability Mystery Gift distribution is now live. Grab it while you can!

I've got a very special new sprite to share. Here's Scarabti.

scarabti.png

Why is Scarabti special? Well, it's the final original Tenno Pokémon that didn't have a sprite. With it's release, the Tenno Region is more real than ever before. It’s been nearly 12 years since I started this project, but at long last, every single original Tenno Pokémon now has an image associated with it. All that’s left now is one Tennoan form and three Mega Evolutions. We’re almost there.

Scarabti's sprite will be added to Sol Version in the next update.

Enjoying the game and the mons, the beginning was annoying, with lack of exp, got a lot better once I got the charm. The female Picnickers crashed the game when they see me, happened twice so far with different NPCs, also where do I get an Ice Stone?

I know about the Picnicker on Route 16 crashing the game, but I hadn't received any reports about a second one. Thanks for letting me know. Do you remember where the other one was?

The Ice Stone is on Frostover Island. It's a hidden item near the Mighty Trainer of the area.

It was on route 6, also there is a problem when I evolve Hailitzer and teach its new move the game crashes. Is loaded dice meant to make projectile barrage only hit 4/5 times. nvm just got a 3 and a 6 hit with it

Thanks for the info and new reports. I'll look into it all. Not sure what's wrong with Hailitzer. It's specifically when you teach it Broadside Salvo that the game crashes? Not when you use the move? As for Projectile Barrage, it's likely that Loaded Dice was only programmed to work with moves that hit five or fewer times, and I never realized, so it doesn't do anything for my moves that hit more than five times.

EDIT: Never mind my question about Broadside Salvo, I recreated the glitch and figured out the issue. That, plus the other issues you mentioned will be fixed in the next update.

Here's another sprite, Tennoan Vanillish!

tennoan-vanillish.png

And that's a wrap on Tennoan Forms! This was the final Tennoan Form Pokémon without a sprite. We're nearly done. Just a few Mega Evolution sprites left.

Tennoan Vanillish's sprite will be added to Sol Version in the next update.

Congrats on the v0.1.10 update. The Helios screenshot looks really polished, and I like that the project is still aiming for a full Tenno-based game instead of just a short demo.

I usually enjoy fangames that keep a clear regional identity, so I’ll be interested to see how the Cosmic Quest side develops as more updates come out. Good luck with the next build.

v0.1.11 Update

It's that time again! Another Sol Version update is here.

First off, this update makes the special reward for playing Pokémon Sol Version: Team Rocket Takeover Edition claimable. If you completed the quest in the Takeover Edition, then you should know how to claim it, and it is now ready to do so.

In addition to glitch fixes, this update is mostly about updates coming from Pokémon Champions.

Honestly, there's not too many changes on the Champions front. I had assumed that Champions would let us know the canon abilities of all of Z-A's Mega Evolutions, but for some, bizarre, inexplicable, and in my opinion, inexcusable reason, Champions only features a small fraction of the new Mega Evolved Pokémon. Even Pokémon like Absol or Raichu, which are in the game in their base forms, don't have their new Mega Evolutions. If you ask me, the only good reason that Champions has to exist, is the ability to use Z-A's Mega Evolutions with standard Pokémon mechanics. But no. We don't even get that.

Sorry, rant aside, the only Megas that have already been added to Sol Version that are in Champions are Clefable, Starmie, Dragonite, Froslass, Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja, Hawlucha, and Crabominable. For all the others, we're going to have to wait even longer to know what their abilities are. For these one, it turns out I actually guessed pretty well what abilities they would get. I guessed Dragonite, Froslass, Chesnaught, Greninja, Hawlucha, and Crabominable all correctly, as well as Starmie and Delphox sort of correctly. For Starmie, I gave it Pure Power Power while Champions gave it Huge Power. Seeing as I can tell literally no difference between these abilities (seriously, if someone knows what the in-universe flavor difference is between these abilities, please let me know), I might as well have guessed correctly. As for Delphox, I gave it Magician instead of Levitate, but seeing as Levitate has been replaced by natural Ground-Type immunity, Levitate wouldn't be its ability in Sol Version anyways. And seeing as Chesnaught and Greninja got their signature Hidden Abilities as their Mega Evolved abilities, it seems logical that Delphox would get Magician if not Levitate, so I was technically correct. The only one I was completely wrong on was Clefable, who gets Magic Bounce instead of Aerilate.

As for other changes brought on Champions, I don't actually have that much. Technically, Champions made changes to a large list of moves and how they work. However, these changes are mostly tweaks to stuff like accuracy, power, and the odds of secondary effects. To me, these are clearly meant to be balancing tweaks for the competitive-focused game, so they won't necessarily translate over to the next real Pokémon games, so I'm ignoring them for now. If Winds and Waves does end up keeping these changes, then I'll change Sol Version as well at that time.

There are a few changes, however, that seem too specific to not be permanent. Mainly, we have Growth, which was changed from a Normal to a Grass-Type move. Yeah, that's completely logical. I'm not sure why we're changing it now, but I'm also not sure why it wasn't this way to begin with, so that's that.

Somewhat more interesting is Snap Trap being changed from a Grass-Type to a Steel-Type. Snap Trap is such a weird move in my mind. When it was introduced in Sword and Shield, I could figure out for the life of me why it was a Grass-Type move. It's the signature move of a Steel-Type Pokémon with Galarian Stunfisk. It's meant to represent Galarian Stunfisk acting like a bear trap, which would imply a Steel-Type. Nothing about this move is related to the Grass-Type. Then I realized that there's one Pokémon the move would fit perfectly. Carnivine. Not only is Carnivine a Grass-Type, but its Venus fly trap design, would perfectly with the idea of a Grass-Type bear trap-inspired move. Seeing as Carnivine doesn't even exist in Sword and Shield, it's possible that Snap Trap was designed for both Carnivine and Stunfisk before they decided to cut Carnivine from the game. And since then, we've never had a game with both Carnivine and Snap Trap in the same game. Since Sword and Shield Carnvine has only been in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Legends: Arceus, but neither game featured Snap Trap. So we still have no way of knowing if Carnivine was meant to learn the move. As you might know, I'm convinced enough that the move was made for Carnivine, that I've made it Carnivine's signature move in Sol Version.

So, why did it change type now in Champions? I don't know. Best guess is that after two generations of the move not being associated with Carnivine, they decided to do what they should have done from the beginning if it were made purely for Stunfisk. Because of this change, if Carnivne ends up in a game with Snap Trap, it may not even get the move now. We'll never really know what the original intention was. Regardless, my solution for Sol Version is to keep Snap Trap with Carnivine and make it into a Grass/Steel combo-type move. That way both Pokémon that use it can benefit from it. It also make more logical in-universe sense than just removing the Grass-Type from it altogether.

The final change from Champions is a small one. They added Crush Claw, Dragon Claw, and Shadow Claw to the list of moves affected by Sharpness. Since Blade Master mirrors Sharpness, I've added these moves to Blade Master as well. I've also added Metal Claw, as it fits the same theme, but doesn't exist in Champions, so I assume it would have been added if it existed.
