Welcome to the celestial land of Tenno! Known for its futuristic technology and advanced space program, the Tenno Region thrives thanks to the ambitions and benevolence of Team Planetary, an organization dedicated to the region's betterment. You start your Pokémon journey in the Tenno Region like many other trainers, but soon you and your childhood friend/rival witness a more sinister side of Team Planetary. They steal property and take Pokémon, all supposedly in the name of saving the region. Can the ends justify the means? As the only witnesses to these heinous acts in a region that idolizes the villains, it’s up to you to stop them while striving to become the Tenno Champion. Blast off on an out-of-this-world journey of astronomical proportions!
sol-version-switch-2-cover-2.png
Pokémon Sol Version is a fan project that aims to create a traditional Pokémon experience using Pokémon Essentials on RPG Maker XP. It is a part of the Cosmic Quest Project, and is technically the "third version" to the hypothetical Luna and Terra Versions. Currently released is a work-in-progress beta test/demo. What's a beta/demo? I explain in detail here. The main campaign is essentially complete and you can play the entire story up until the credits roll, but there is currently no post-game content. That will come in future updates, as discussed here. But, feel free to keep on exploring the region and completing missed optional content until then.

Important Notes
  • This game is in beta and is an unfinished product. While playing, expect to encounter glitches and game crashes. If you do, please report them, as explained in the "Reporting Issues" section below.
  • Due to the chances of encountering a game crash, I recommend saving your game frequently, especially before and after difficult or important battles or after long story events.
  • The game is essentially complete up until the credits roll. That means you can play the entire main story, but there are no post-game elements added yet. Future updates to come.
  • This game is designed to be a traditional and authentic Pokémon experience. It will not contain features common to fan games, such as a speed-up button.
  • This game is designed to play more like the earlier Pokémon games (Gens I through V), rather than the more modern ones. As such, it may require more effort and thought to beat than you might be used to from modern Pokémon games.
  • The game features the classic version of Exp. Share, rather than the modern version which distributes experience among all Pokémon in the party automatically. An Exp. All item, which functions like the modern Exp. Share, does exist in the game, but it is a reward for a side quest that spans the entire region and cannot be obtained until the very end of the game. It is better to think of it as a post-game item.
  • One aspect of real Pokémon games that could not be replicated by this game is interactions with other players. This means it would usually be impossible to evolve Pokémon that require being traded. However, if you want to evolve such a Pokémon, just show a Pokémon that evolves through trade to the woman on the second floor of any Pokémon Center and she'll give you a special item that can evolve these Pokémon instead.
  • Certain aspects of this game may be incompatible with JoiPlay. I have received reports of graphic display issues, random lag, and missing sound effects, all coming from JoiPlay, rather than any specific issue with the game.
  • JoiPlay prevents players from skipping the opening movie. Players using JoiPlay should either delete or rename the folder titled "Movies" within their "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. This will cause the game to automatically skip the movie. This will have to be done every time the game is updated.

Download v0.1.7 Here
(Updated 9/10/25)
No Hotfix Currently Required

If you need help getting things working after downloading from this link, see here for instructions. Once you've downloaded the most recent version, apply the the most recent hotfix (if applicable) as explained below.

Update Instructions: If you've already downloaded an older version of Sol Version and are looking to update, simply delete your outdated "Pokémon Sol Version" folder and download the current version from the above link. Your save data will transfer over automatically.
Hotfix Instructions: If and only if there's a hotfix download link listed below the regular download link, then you'll need to apply the hotfix to Sol Version to play the most up-to-date version. Click the link to download a file called "Game.rgssad" and move that file into your "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. When it asks you if you want to replace the existing file, say yes. Now your game is up to date. You should always try to have to most recent hotfix applied to your game. If you've just installed Sol Version for the first time and a hotfix is available, you should apply the hotfix right away.

Reporting Issues
As this is a work-in-progress beta build of the game, expect to find glitches and other issues. Please report any issues you come across while playing. You can report them here, or send me an email at CosmicQuestProject@gmail.com. As much information as you can provide on the context of the issue, as well as screenshots if possible, is very helpful. If there's an error message, a picture or copy of the exact message would be of great assistance. The game's error log, with a list of all error messages you've received can be located in your file explorer under Users>[Your Name]>AppData>Roaming>Pokémon Sol Version. AppData is only visible if you first click the "View" tab, and then check the box labeled "Hidden Items." From there, you can copy and paste the exact error message, with the newest errors on the bottom. It is my hope that working together we can remove all of the issues that remain undiscovered in this game and we can move it ever closer to a final release.

Known Issues
  • Sometimes when an ability's name displays in battle, it will instead display the name of the Pokémon's other ability. This is a purely visual bug. The proper ability is still activating.
  • Sometimes the game will crash when transitioning from the opening movie to the title screen. If this happens, you can simply relaunch the game and skip the movie to circumvent the crash.
  • A handful of Tenno Pokémon are still a work in progress and do not yet have certain graphics. For a complete list of Pokémon missing some or all of their graphics, see here.
  • Any Mega Evolved Pokémon not listed here is not yet available in the game, even if a Mega Stone is obtainable. The Mega Stone is a placeholder and will not work.

Mystery Gift
Sol Version has a rotation of Mystery Gift distributions. To learn how to unlock the Mystery Gift feature in Sol Version, see here. The currently running Mystery Gift is a special Galapaglobe. This Earth-themed Pokémon has its Hidden Ability, Cold Blooded, as well as Seismic Toss as an event-exclusive move. Only available until October 3rd, 2025!

The Year of Tenno Favorite Tenno Pokémon Quiz!

There are 136 new Pokémon in the Tenno Region, as well as 19 Tennoan Forms, and I want to know what your favorites are. Just follow this link to the poll and select up to six of your favorite Tenno Pokémon and Tennoan Forms! Who knows, the results of this poll may even have an impact on the future of Sol Version. I really would appreciate your participation. Thank you.

Thank you both Bguy7 and Ironman55555!! Time to start looking for my new team member. Also, when I try to download the new update, it seems that due to how large the data is I'm unable to download the game. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you!!

It's the main update to v0.1.3, not the hotfix, that's giving you trouble, right? If you delete the old version first (and make sure you empty your Recycling Bin), that should clear up enough space for the new version. Also, make sure that you delete any old zipped versions of the game files, as those take up a lot of space as well. If that doesn't work, there's not much help I can offer, other than to suggest you do a clean up of the files on your device.

Ok, thanks. Not exactly sure where the upper path is. When I go to route 13 the swamp blocks all progress. Maybe its through the cave above Penum City

Just to make sure, do you mean Route 13 or 14? The second swamp route, Route 14, does have the brown-colored swamp that blocks all progress. But Route 13 has the blue-green swamp that you can walk through without Terrain Trek.

If it's Route 14 you're stuck on, then go back to Ort City and try exploring the Spirit Tower.

If it is Route 13, then go right from the entrance to the Route, then start heading up once the path forks.

You do not have to go through the Brutal Cave again.

I found a bug. When using the move Detox with Curemodo, it always brings an error message up after the move hits, and then when you exit out of the error window the move repeats until your opponent faints. I was just in Spirit Tower and fought the trainer with Scarophagus and Cofagrigus and Detox hit them each four times in a row.

I wanna ask something: while I was in the Brutal Cave, I found the Hydrite (Hydreigon's Mega Stone), but it had no sprite. And I also didn't find any info on Mega Hydreigon in the website. Was there supposed to be a Mega Hydreigon, only for it to get scrapped or is it gonna show up, eventually?
Also, where's the Ampharosite? I'm considering using Mega Ampharos over Mega Raichu. Emphasis on considering
Edit: Found a bug: when fighting the last Planetary Commanders and Braydon's Aegislash uses King's Shield, it blocks me in a bug loop

Th Hydrite is a little confusing, sorry about that. I put mentioned in the important notes section on the main post that there are a few Mega Stones hidden in the world that aren't actually implemented yet. That because they're for Mega Evolutions I know I'm going to add in eventually, but haven't gotten around to fully fleshing out the concept for yet. I still wanted to hide the Mega Stones as placeholders, otherwise the areas I had planned to hide them in would feel strangely empty. It will be properly added in the future.

Ampharosite is next to the lighthouse in Kanaveral City.

And noted with the King's Shield glitch. Interesting, as usually it's only my custom moves that have issues, not the existing ones.

Where can I upgrade Surf and Waterfall? And where's Dracosmic's Mega Stone? I could really use those upgrades
Also, any eventual roamers we should worry about when you update the game? If so, good thing I saved my Master Ball

Surf gets upgraded first at Route 17 for Level 2 and then at Comet Lake for Level 3. You get the upgrade quest for Waterfall at the Pokémon League for Level 2 and Route 16 for Level 3.

Dracosmic's Mega Stone is currently unavailable. It will become available in the first post-game update, as you get as a part of the post-game story.

Velocivity is an optional roamer. You'll get a chance to catch it regularly, but if you fail, it becomes a roamer. I might have Cresselia be a roamer as well, but I haven't decided exactly how I'm going to handle that yet.

Not a game update, but I've updated the Cosmic Quest Website's Tenno Region page to better display the Pokémon encounters at each location in the Tenno Region. I’ve gone though the entirety of the Tenno Region page and took the old “Example Pokémon” list for each locations and turned it into a definitive list of encounters. Each location now lists every possible Pokémon to encounter there, sorted by encounter type (grass, cave, surfing, terrain, fishing, special overworld encounter, etc.). Additionally, each list is sorted from most common encounter to least common encounter. Now it is possible to find out exactly where to find a given Pokémon, how to find it, and how likely you are to find it.

Check it out here.

Where can you first find Velocivity? (Also, I've seen those stats. It's literally a better Regieleki. It could probably outspeed Trick Room, if given the right setup.) And I could also use False Swipe, where's its TM? Is there also any False Swipe mons you could recommend outside of Gallade, Breloom or Scizor?
And remember how you said you might add Ursaluna? You might have to make a few more exceptions, because thanks to Scarlet and Violet's DLCs, we've seen that SOME Hisuian mons have lived to this day. The only ones that I can think of are Kleavor and Hisuian Qwilfish in the Indigo Disk and White-Stripes Basculin in the Teal Mask. Even then, on the website, it says that the Starbound Haven haves some space-time shenanigans, thanks to Palkia and Dialga, so you could just have Hisuian mons located there and call it a day (perhaps similar to how you can find modern mons like Rotom and the Porygon line back in Legends Arceus). If you want to, of course
Edit: I'm trying to beat the Cosmic Guardians, but to no avail. Which one is the more dangerous/annoying and should be defeated first?

Great game, it would be even better if you included Ceruledge in your pokemon selection. Maybe in future updates you can add it

Velocivity is the one bit of post-credit content in the game right now. It will become obvious how to get it becomes available.

False Swipe is one of the rewards at the Game Corner. No suggestions for a False Swiper, sorry.

There definitely are exceptions for Hisuian forms. It's just a bit of a minefield on what would work and what wouldn't. It's worth noting that anything in the Blueberry Academy Terrarium is likely there thanks to artificial conservation efforts, if not full on respeciation, similar to how it has Fossil Pokémon and Alolan Forms, which doesn't really give me the excuse to put them natively in the Tenno Region. The fact that White-Stripe Basculin exists in the wild of Kitikami does help, I'm just not certain of the extent that it implies. I do plan on making some Hisuian Pokémon available through the Starbound Haven with its timespace anomalies, however.

I found it best to defeat Ryusei first to stop the healing, but a case could definitely be made for getting rid of Suisei before it boosts stats too high.

Great game, it would be even better if you included Ceruledge in your pokemon selection. Maybe in future updates you can add it

Unfortunately, not every Pokémon can make it into the Tenno Pokédex, and some favorites are going to be left behind. For whatever it's worth, Ceruledge will be available in the post-game once National Dex becomes available.

I am currently at the light gym right after the mega trial and wanted to ask something. I've had ravenoir since it was available but I have not been able to find a dusk stone yet to evolve it. It's not weak by any means but I really want it to evolve. Did I miss it or is it available later?

You haven't passed it yet. You'll be able to find it in the Spirit Tower in Ort City after the next gym.

Thanks! The games been really great so far. It crashed during few interactions but I understand that it's still in demo. One that scared me was the brutal cave fighter battle which I just to test but only had a very low level mon and lost. I couldn't get rest of my team back as the low level falconkight was the only thing left and I had no way to attempt it again without grinding so I don't know if you get your mons back if you blacked out previously on that fight.

Oof, that's a nasty issue, and definitely should not be happening. I'm sorry you had to deal with that and thanks for letting me know. I have a pretty good guess as to what happened, based on your description. I'll get on a fix for it right away.

I just want to make sure I understand, did you end up getting your Pokémon back, or are they still missing? If they're missing, I'll work with you to make sure you get them back.

Oh, I had a very recent backup so no worries! I've been saving frequently and so far have not lost any significant progress

In final gym that astronaut simulator lvl 3 is impossible to beat, at least for me. Is there any hint on how to pass it, maybe i should learn some pattern or something

In final gym that astronaut simulator lvl 3 is impossible to beat, at least for me. Is there any hint on how to pass it, maybe i should learn some pattern or something

It shouldn't be actually impossible, as I tested it thoroughly and have had several other people I know of beat it already, it's just tough. There's no pattern to learn, as everything is randomized. One important tip I can give is that each lane will only have one hazard in it a time, and then there's a random refresh time before the next hazard appears, so you are safest and will have the most time to react if you move to a lane that just had its hazard pass. So, if an asteroid or something falls next to you, move into that lane and then you'll have a brief break be able to focus on moving again once you see a new hazard appear above you. At that point, you can move into the safest lane near you, and work your way into another lane that just had its hazard reach the bottom of the screen. That's the strategy I used to beat it. If you're still having trouble beating it, and honestly feel like it's not just a matter of practice, reach out to me via PM and we'll talk a little more about the difficulty there.

Version 0.1.4

We've got another update with a large list of bug fixes, but also with a new feature and one notable content update.

Update Checker

We have a new feature in the form of an update checker. Now, whenever you enter the save file load screen after the title screen, if you have internet connection, the game will automatically check to see if your copy of the game is up to date. If you're missing the current version update or most recent hotfix, the game will alert you and offer to open the download link for you. If you say yes, the page where you can download the update or hotfix will automatically be opened up to save you the time of navigating to it yourself. Of course, if you're not wanting to download an update at that time, it is completely optional. This feature should help players to know as soon as there's an update, to help avoid having people playing on outdated versions which will contain more glitches and the like and to reduce their reliance on checking Sol Version news outlets to get updates as soon as they come.

This feature is currently considered to be very experimental. It works fine in all my tests, but I heavily edited the code of the plugin it is based off of, so there's a lot of room for issues to pop up. Please report any strange behavior you may encounter with it.

Ursaluna

Pokémon Sol Version features Teddiursa and Ursaring, but has not featured Ursaluna. This is because of the extremely strange territory that Pokémon from Hisui currently exist in. It is difficult to tell if the intentions of Game Freak is that the Hisuian Pokémon all died out, mostly died out, or simply exist in the modern world like any other Pokémon. Most likely, the answer is one of the first two. For example, while Stantler can be obtained in Scarlet and Violet, it is impossible to evolve it into Wyrdeer, implying that at some point in time since Legends: Arceus took place, modern day Stantler lost their ability to evolve into Wyrdeer, essentially meaning that the Wyrdeer species is extinct. This seemed like it would be the case for all Hisuian Pokémon, until the Teal Mask DLC put White-Stripe Basculin and Basculegion in Kitakami. There was also a gift Hisuian Growlithe and the Bloodmoon Ursaluna in this DLC as well, but those were both specific individuals, and they could be the last of their kind, for all we know. The Indigo Disc also gave us Kleavor and Hisuian Qwilfish/Overqwill, but seeing as the Blueberry Academy Terrarium also has Fossil Pokémon roaming around it, it's safe to assume that these are very likely conservation attempts or even respeciation similar to the revived Fossil Pokémon. This seems especially true in the case of Kleavor, which can only be captured, never evolved from Scyther. This all leaves us in a confusing spot. If it weren't for Basculegion existing naturally in the wilds of Kitakami, then I would say that the implication is that Hisui Pokémon as a whole don't exist naturally in the wild anymore.

Now, what's the point of all this? Well, Ursaluna is a Pokémon that I've wanted to have in Sol Version since it was first released. After all, Sol Version features every Pokémon it can with any kind of link to space, especially those related to the Earth, Moon, and Sun specifically. Ursaluna is very clearly linked to the Moon. The fact that it only evolves when the Moon is full is really great too, because Sol Version already tracks the real life lunar phase for the sake of Shamoon's form change, so having another Pokémon take advantage of that would be fun. Throw in the fact that Teddiursa and Ursaring already existed in the Tenno Dex, and of course I wanted to add Ursaluna. But, since most evidence points to the fact that Ursaluna don't generally exist anymore, I wasn't able to do that.

Well, I've come up with and implemented a compromise. In this update I have added an NPC to Ort City who will give you a quest called "Mudlines." Complete the quest, and you'll be rewarded with a special Teddiursa. This Teddiursa will be the only Teddiursa in the game capable of eventually evolving into Ursaluna. The logic here being that this Teddiursa is one specifically descended from the Hisuian population of Teddiursa and has managed to maintain its ability to evolve. So, while regular Ursaring in Tenno cannot evolve into Ursaluna, this specific one can. Of course, you'll still need a Peat Block to do it, but seeing as Tenno already has a large swamp in it, there's a very natural place to hide this item, which is now obtainable. The final step will be to wait for the next full Moon. (It's August 9th, if anyone was wondering. You can check the current lunar phase yourself by talking to the Astronomer in Opti City.) As Ursaluna is not naturally available in the Tenno Region, it will not be a part of the Tenno Dex. Even if you obtain one, it will not show up, so obtaining it is not required to complete the dex.

  • Fixed a potential sequence break at the Rest Stop that could be used to skip the portion where you chase down the Burglar.

  • Fixed an issue that would cause an error message to appear when battling a trainer using a Pokémon that knows Tainted Milk (Tennoan Miltank and Miltaint).
  • (Possibly) Fixed an issue that would sometimes cause a loop of error messages if a Pokémon changed sprites, such a by changing forms mid-battle or using the move Transform. (I have been unable to replicate this glitch, but have reports of this occurring with both a Ditto and an Aegislash. I have no way of testing whether or not this fix worked, as I can't replicate the glitch.)
  • Removed an invisible tile that would block the player from entering the Immaculate Palace restaurant in the Rest Stop during the night or during the "On the Run" story event that occurs there.
  • Removed the mysterious man standing in the trees of Ort City which would appear after beginning the "Mystery of the Keystone" side quest. (No, this was not an intended appearance of a ghost.)

Mystery Gift

You have just a little over three days left before the end of Sol Version's first Mystery Gift giveaway, the Shiny Larvesta. Its distribution will end at 11:59 PM PDT on July 3rd, at which point it will be replaced by the next Mystery Gift.

Starting August 4th and lasting until September 3rd, the second Mystery Gift distribution will be the Bloodmoon Beast: Bloodmoon Ursaluna, in celebration of Ursaluna's addition to Sol Version. Just like Larvesta has a Sun-themed moveset, this Ursaluna will be entirely based around the Moon, with a moveset including Moonlit Night, Lunar Beam, Moonblast, and Moonlight. Like all Pokémon distributed during the beta period, it will be holding the special Preview Ribbon, which will only be obtainable through Mystery Gift distributions in this period. As Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a specific individual, and not something you'd expect to come across just anywhere, this (and possible future distributions) will be the only way to obtain it.

Please note that if you do not update to v0.1.4 before downloading this Mystery Gift, the Bloodmoon Ursaluna will not have the correct learnable move pool or abilities, as those have been updated in this version.

New Hotfix

Well, it seems I can't go more than a day or two after a larger release without needing to put out a hotfix. This one addresses a potential issue just brought to my attention with the Spirit Tower side story that can block progress in it. If, on the top floor of the Spirit Tower you either speak to Melony from her right side and/or you leave and go down the stairs without going through the vortex first, then Melony will permanently block your access into the vortex, preventing you from progressing the story. If you previously encountered this issue and could not pass Melony, this hotfix will temporarily remove her from the room so you can continue on.

If you did not encounter the above issue and have already completed the Spirit Tower side story, then this hotfix is essentially optional. (However, the new update checker will still alert you if you don't have it.)

Changelong:
  • Made it impossible to speak to Melony from the right side on the top floor of the Spirit Tower.
  • Fixed an issue with Melony blocking the vortex if you leave the top floor of the Spirit Tower before entering it.
  • Repaired some tiles that could incorrectly be walked through in the Crater Gate.

Thank you so much!! I finally got the file to download, and complete the mega evolution challenge. Enjoying the rest of my journey :D
