Welcome to the celestial land of Tenno! Known for its futuristic technology and advanced space program, the Tenno Region thrives thanks to the ambitions and benevolence of Team Planetary, an organization dedicated to the region's betterment. You start your Pokémon journey in the Tenno Region like many other trainers, but soon you and your childhood friend/rival witness a more sinister side of Team Planetary. They steal property and take Pokémon, all supposedly in the name of saving the region. Can the ends justify the means? As the only witnesses to these heinous acts in a region that idolizes the villains, it’s up to you to stop them while striving to become the Tenno Champion. Blast off on an out-of-this-world journey of astronomical proportions!

Pokémon Sol Version is a fan project that aims to create a traditional Pokémon experience using Pokémon Essentials on RPG Maker XP. It is a part of the Cosmic Quest Project, and is technically the "third version" to the hypothetical Luna and Terra Versions. Currently released is a work-in-progress beta test/demo. What's a beta/demo? I explain in detail here. The main campaign is essentially complete and you can play the entire story up until the credits roll, but there is currently no post-game content. That will come in future updates, as discussed here. But, feel free to keep on exploring the region and completing missed optional content until then.

Important Notes
  • This game is in beta and is an unfinished product. While playing, expect to encounter glitches and game crashes. If you do, please report them, as explained in the "Reporting Issues" section below.
  • Due to the chances of encountering a game crash, I recommend saving your game frequently, especially before and after difficult or important battles or after long story events.
  • The game is essentially complete up until the credits roll. That means you can play the entire main story, but there are no post-game elements added yet. Future updates to come.
  • This game is designed to be a traditional and authentic Pokémon experience. It will not contain features common to fan games, such as a speed-up button.
  • This game is designed to play more like the earlier Pokémon games (Gens I through V), rather than the more modern ones. As such, it may require more effort and thought to beat than you might be used to from modern Pokémon games.
  • The game features the classic version of Exp. Share, rather than the modern version which distributes experience among all Pokémon in the party automatically. An Exp. All item, which functions like the modern Exp. Share, does exist in the game, but it is a reward for a side quest that spans the entire region and cannot be obtained until the very end of the game. It is better to think of it as a post-game item.
  • One aspect of real Pokémon games that could not be replicated by this game is interactions with other players. This means it would usually be impossible to evolve Pokémon that require being traded. However, if you want to evolve such a Pokémon, just show a Pokémon that evolves through trade to the woman on the second floor of any Pokémon Center and she'll give you a special item that can evolve these Pokémon instead.
  • Certain aspects of this game may be incompatible with JoiPlay.
  • JoiPlay prevents players from skipping the opening movie. Players using JoiPlay should either delete or rename the folder titled "Movies" within their "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. This will cause the game to automatically skip the movie. This will have to be done every time the game is updated.

Download v0.1.1 Here
(Updated 7/8/25)
Download 7/12/25 Hotfix Here

If you need help getting things working after downloading from this link,
see here for instructions. Once you've downloaded the most recent version, apply the the most recent hotfix (if applicable) as explained below.

Update Instructions: If you've already downloaded an older version of Sol Version and are looking to update, simply delete your outdated "Pokémon Sol Version" folder and download the current version from the above link. Your save data will transfer over automatically.
Hotfix Instructions: If and only if there's a hotfix download link listed below the regular download link, then you'll need to apply the hotfix to Sol Version to play the most up-to-date version. Click the link to download a file called "Game.rgssad" and move that file into your "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. When it asks you if you want to replace the existing file, say yes. Now your game is up to date. You should always try to have to most recent hotfix applied to your game. If you've just installed Sol Version for the first time and a hotfix is available, you should apply the hotfix right away.

Reporting Issues
As this is a work-in-progress beta build of the game, expect to find glitches and other issues. Please report any issues you come across while playing. You can report them here, or send me an email at CosmicQuestProject@gmail.com. As much information as you can provide on the context of the issue, as well as screenshots if possible, is very helpful. If there's an error message, a picture or copy of the exact message would be of great assistance. The game's error log, with a list of all error messages you've received can be located in your file explorer under Users>[Your Name]>AppData>Roaming>Pokémon Sol Version. AppData is only visible if you first click the "View" tab, and then check the box labeled "Hidden Items." From there, you can copy and paste the exact error message, with the newest errors on the bottom. It is my hope that working together we can remove all of the issues that remain undiscovered in this game and we can move it ever closer to a final release.

Known Issues
  • During the climax story event, entering a required battle will crash the game.
  • Hazeard and Falcoknight are unable to evolve into Venimbus and Eagladiator respectively.
  • Sometimes, Pokémon may be missing their first ability. Sometimes saving and reloading the game will fix this, but not always.
  • Sometimes the game will crash when transitioning from the opening movie to the title screen. If this happens, you can simply relaunch the game and skip the movie to circumvent the crash.
  • A handful of Tenno Pokémon are still a work in progress and do not yet have certain graphics. For a complete list of Pokémon missing some or all of their graphics, see here.
  • Any Mega Evolved Pokémon not listed here is not yet available in the game, even if a Mega Stone is obtainable. The Mega Stone is a placeholder and will not work.

Mystery Gift
Sol Version will have a rotation of Mystery Gift giveaways. To learn how to unlock the Mystery Gift feature in Sol Version, see here. The currently running Mystery Gift is a Shiny Larvesta with a special sun-themed move set. Only available until August 3rd, 2025!

Hi all, I just started playing the game and I'm wondering at what point in the storyline I’ll be able to receive the Exp. Share item. Thanks in advance!

The Exp. Share is available through the Meteoric Hunt side quest that begins after the first gym. You have to find a number of Meteoric Shards hidden across the region in return for various rewards. One of the prizes you get is the Exp. Share.

Heya. Adding to the previous comment, do we get the Pre Gen 6 or Post Gen 6 Exp Share?

Technically both. There's the classic Exp. Share that works like the pre-Gen VI version, then there's the Exp. All, which works like the post-Gen VI version (and pre-Gen VII, as you're allowed to turn it off). However, I firmly believe that the modern Exp. Share has completely ruined the balance of Pokémon games and made them far too easy by ensuring that the player is always over-leveled and therefore removing any need to train your Pokémon. As such, the Exp. All is an item you really have to work to earn. While you get the Exp. Share relatively easily from the Meteoric Hunt quest, the Exp. All is the final reward for finding every Meteoric Shard in the region.

On another note, how are HMs handled? Do we still need to teach em, do we get HM items, can you still use HMs, so long as you have a mon in your party capable of learning it, or is there something else?

Personally, I've always liked the concept of HMs, and was disappointed when they were removed. I believe that they were a way to represent trainer and Pokémon working together to overcome obstacles, which is the very core concept of the franchise. There's so much more value in using your own Pokémon to conquer an obstacle than some random item or a borrowed Pokémon. As such, Sol Version does feature traditional-style HMs that must be taught to a Pokémon to use. However, in an effort to make people a little more accepting of them, I've added a new feature where you can complete certain side quests to upgrade your HMs, making them stronger and adding extra bonus effects, making them more worthwhile to keep in you Pokémon's move set. You'll no longer be required to keep a Pokémon with weak moves like Rock Smash or Cut for later half of the games, because they themselves become relatively strong moves that are worth using in battle. Also, the early game HMs tend to be completely optional, beyond the first time using them. Only the late-game HMs will require continuous use, so if you don't like keeping a lot of HM moves on the team, then you can chose to ditch the early ones entirely if you're willing to forgo some extra items and alternate paths here and there.

Edit: just encountered a silly visual glitch: if you interact with a gym sign, you become invisible. Is it game breaking? Unlikely. Is it funny? Absolutely

Huh. If I'm remembering correctly, that's not even a glitch, but rather just a dumb error on my part. I must have accidently left that in after I used it to turn the player invisible to record a scene for one of my trailers. Would you remind me what sign it is so I can remove it. Definitely hilarious to find at random, though. Thanks.

Quite literally Horizoport City's gym's sign. Can't confirm if it does the same with all gym signs, tho. I have yet to check the one in the big labyrinth that is Kanaveral City, then I might assume it does the same with every single one
Update: can confirm, Kanaveral's gym sign doesn't turn me invisible

I see, so there will be a total of 100 meteoric shards to collect? Are there exactly 100 meteoric shards in the overworld so that we need to fimd it all, or is there more than 100 so we do not have to worry about missing out one or two shards in an area?

There are 100 Meteoric Shards in total, so you would need to find all of them for the Exp. All reward.

Ah I see, if that is the case, will you be providing the list of meteoric shards location? As I think we will miss one or 2 shards

Will you be done a update to fix the bugs? There are several bugs while doing quests that will crash the game. For example, the sidequest where the mom ask for the icecream crashes after you give her the ice cream. The server guy that give u an eevee after you catch 20 Pokemon and it crashed when he requested for 50 Pokemon etc.

I could provide a list, but I don't have time to put one together now. Sometime soon, perhaps.

I will be updating to remove all glitches I am aware of. I'll investigate what's wrong with these ones and fix them for a future update. Thanks for reporting the problem.

Hello, how do we get the bike voucher to use the cycle path with the second gym ?I searched everywhere in all the cities but I can't find it

Hello, how do we get the bike voucher to use the cycle path with the second gym ?I searched everywhere in all the cities but I can't find it

You don't need the bike yet. Instead, there's an alternate path right next to the Cycling Road where you can use Cut to get beneath it and take an alternate path to another route. On that other route, you'll have a series of story events, and once those conclude, you'll get the Bike Voucher.

ah well then for rock smash no problem finding it but I didn't find cut can you tell me where we get it?

ah well then for rock smash no problem finding it but I didn't find cut can you tell me where we get it?

When you first arrived in Orbitz City, the city before the second gym, you should have met with Looker, and he gave you Cut. If you've made it past the second gym, then you should have Cut already. If you don't have Cut, then something went very wrong, so please let me know one way or another.

Any grinding spots? I am havent difficulty leveling up my other pokemon and I am getting underleveled

Any grinding spots? I am havent difficulty leveling up my other pokemon and I am getting underleveled

No spots made specifically for grinding, but typically the most recent area with wild Pokémon is your best bet. Depending on where you're at in the game, there might be an optional area you passed by with additional trainers and/or stronger wild Pokémon. For whatever it's worth, I've built the level curve assuming that you battle against every trainer, so, if by any chance, you're avoiding any trainers, I advise you battle them for the experience. It's also worth noting that I built the level curve assuming that you'll tend to be slightly under-leveled in order to make the battles more challenging. During my test playthrough my team was typically behind in levels when compared to the rival or gym leaders. Don't feel like you need to match or surpass them in level and sometimes battles may require multiple tries to figure out the right strategy. Should that fail, then you grind.

Where do I find Galacerta? Not sure the pokedex meant inside Mt Corona cave or at the solar peak ruins

Galacerta is only available in the inside cave areas. It's a rare spawn. You cannot find it in snowy summit areas or the Solar Peak Ruins.

yes I just hadn't paid attention sorry, now it's after the 3rd gym that I'm stuck I don't know where to go…..

Gave up playing shortly after the second gym, just way too many bugs that crashes the game. I would genuinely rather have hard level caps with an audino/chansey whatever trainer to reach cap than the current slogfest to train up your party especially when there isn't a speed up button(I tried pressing every key to no success at least). I ended up only using 2 mons the entire time because I cba to train in the grass without any speedup whatsoever, just feels like the game is wasting my time at that point

Just head east after the third gym, the path should be clear once you start that way.

I am sorry you had a negative experience. For whatever it's worth, I tried to be clear ahead of time that this was a beta build and glitches should be expected. The hope is that I can work with people now to weed out the problems for an eventual polished final release. I'm sorry if there wasn't a clear enough warning. I'll see if I can do something to make it clearer and better set expectations.

With everything else, I'd like to note that it is my stated goal with game to build a traditional Pokémon game with traditional and authentic Pokémon gameplay. That means nothing like a speed-up button or level caps. To me, training your Pokémon is an important part of the game, as well as its flow and balance, and not something I see as a waste of time. I'm sorry if you do not find that aspect of Pokémon enjoyable and I respect your decision to stop playing.

Regardless, thank you for giving it a try in the first place, and sorry it felt like a waste of your time.

Heliosol can be captured towards the end of the story. Terratlas can't be caught until post-game, so it isn't available yet. The Cosmic Guardians and Velocivity are the only Legendaries besides Heliosol that can currently be caught.
