Developed in Godot Engine, Malachite will offer a fresh feeling gameplay experience like no other fan game released to date!




Plot Outline: Most trainers begin their Pokémon journey when they turn 10 years old, such as your childhood friend Percy. When your father suddenly lost his job however, you were left unable to afford the registration fees for the Pokémon League. Your Trainer Card never came in the mail. Your father never found another job. That was 5 years ago...

Luckily, your family friend, and the Mythora Region's very own Pokémon Professor, hired you as her research assistant. The internship doesn't pay much, and your mom had to go back to teaching, but at least your family got to keep the house. The past few years you and Professor Dryad have been studying Pokémon's habitats to see how they affect Pokémon behavior and evolution, hungry for a breakthrough. Together, you submitted a proposal for a research grant that would allow you to expand the scope of your tests.

Today the Professor has great news; the board accepted your proposal! Your dad has even been withholding a surprise of his own; he has finally found a job! The real surprise however, is that the professor added an additional item to the request behind your back. She wants to gift you a starter Pokémon!!!

With a new partner by your side and research tasks to complete, you finally embark on the journey you've been waiting for your entire life. Go for the Gym Challenge, explore a region of diverse Pokémon, and stop the nefarious Team Claw- wait what?

It seems a malevolent force is at work in the Mythora Region, and it is up to you and your growing list of allies to defend its precious ecosystem!

Unique Features:
  • A carefully balanced Pokédex of roughly 450 Pokémon from gens 1-9 and a medium sized cast of new Fakémon!

I can't help but i hope the game dev stay healthy and stay safe, i really curious about the engine hope the game will out someday
 

Progress Update: Week 1 :)​

Despite being past the one year mark, development is still in its very early stages. This was a solo project off and on for most of that time, so now that fingers have hit the keyboards inside the game engine, the team has decided our best move is to work towards a small demo that will take place in the mid-early game. This means taking on an Agile methodology to development, only working on the systems and scenes essential for that first demo, polishing them, releasing, and then moving forward with the feedback. We believe this approach will be a great way to iterate and see the potential of the project while also getting some portfolio work to showcase for recruitment and hype :)

Speaking of showcasing...

One of the most important things to code in a Pokémon game from scratch is well... the Pokémon themselves! Today I'm proud to say that the beginnings of the Pokémon class code are functional, and as proof, a computer generated Bulbasaur printed straight to the debug console 😄

So to summarize this past week since the post went live:
1) We have nearly finalized 2 starter Pokémon concept designs
2) We have a functioning Test Build from the first splash screen up to loading into the game's test world
3) We have functioning script for Pokémon stat calculations and can call data relevant to a Pokémon's species!

We appreciate everyone who has already joined our server or expressed their support, we hope to be back with some (bigger) updates soon! 💚
 

Progress Update: Week 2!​

This week was a huge advancement behind the scenes and there isn't too much to show for it in terms of pretty gameplay, but the Pokémon class script has taken greater shape and been heavily cleaned up, including the ability to evolve Pokémon if they have met evolution criteria for their species!


Here is a video of a battle test where by clicking the Fight button, our Bulbasaur levels up to 16 and then the check_evolvution() function is called, successfully evolving our mon into Ivysaur and updating his sprite and sprite position as well!

Our goal is to have the battle system functional by the end of the month so we can showcase some real gameplay. Thank you all for following along, more updates to come😊
