Hey having a lot fo fun with the game however i noticed some trainers at the stand are a little glitched
the magician girls can pull the ultimate illusion of disappearing mid conversation (i wish you could keep this)
the trainer next to the door can not be rebattled on day 2 making it impossible to catch her blitzle
and the lunk next to the barrels gives a script error

Dang it, I knew something slipped through the cracks while playtesting.
Whatever the case, it's a simple fix, so I've went ahead and updated the main post with a quick bugfix patch underneath the main download.

EDIT: I somehow completely missed another issue in one of the events, so I'm updating the patch real quick.

I have released a new bugfix patch (link to it under the main post) that patches up a few more bugs and issuses. I'll start writing a changelog for it at some point, probably.

I finally had time to finish outskirt and I am very impressed, I have a lot of nostalgia for GameCube Pokemon games so this brought back a lot of fond memories, and it was very faithful to the original feel of the games despite missing a dimension. Battles were very well balanced and kept a good difficulty that never felt too easy while having the boss fight be challenging. The variety of Shadow Pokemon is excellent, a great mix of popular/good mons and less popular mons, found it super easy to make a team of Pokemon I've been wanting to use that I haven't before. Out of everything in the game though what easily shines the most to me is the writing. You did a fantastic job of writing these characters and the overall story so much so that I would purposely lose battles or fiddle with other elements to get different dialog or outcomes. It again fit the feel and original story of the GameCube games perfectly and you wrote these characters accurately to the games as well.
The only issue I had with the game was some minor glitches that I showed you before that you quickly fixed. the only other one I found was during the Ansor fight. I managed to catch his Ceruledge and Decidueye before losing and when I rematched him to catch his Gengar it switched into another Ceruledge. Also, the lack of a move tutor was unfortunate as I wanted to use a Naganadel but couldn't as I had no way to reteach the Poipole dragon pulse. The issues I had didn't make me like the game any less enjoyable though and weren't that big of a deal. Overall this was a blast and I had a ton of fun playing it and look forward to your future work, Great job!

Thank you, I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I'll work to fix the buggy fight, but Poipole actually can be evolved, you just have to use the Move Reminder from the summary screen in order to relearn Dragon Pulse
ah felt like I was missing something. forgot in the new games you can relearn moves, sorry about that

So, is there any documentation or a Discord associated with Outskirt Stand? I was just curious to see what was available. The Pokedex in game says 19/53 for me, so I'm not sure if that means seen/caught or if that's the number of Pokemon available which makes me think this might not be the full release of the game? The intro post also isn't clear as to if this is the full game release either or if this is a shortened portion for the sake of the game jam.

There is no documentation or server for the game, since there isn't anything out of the way or hidden enough to properly necessitate it. None of the Shadow Pokémon are completely missable, if that's what you're worried about, and there is an NPC at the stand you can talk to after clearing respective story segments in order to snag whatever would otherwise be permanently unavailable.
The Pokédex text on the save file reflects caught vs. seen Pokémon. I am probably going to change it to reflect the number of snagged/purified Pokémon in a later version, so don't worry about using it as a measurement for completion.

If you want to know the actual number of obtainable Pokémon, though:
There are 58 Shadow Pokémon, 4 freebie/gift Pokémon, and 15 Pokémon that can be caught in Pokéspots (each one has five).

The game itself is technically incomplete, but the section I had to cut off for the sake of the jam is relatively short enough that its absence isn't going to leave that glaring of a hole in the game or story.

after beating lady venus, she knocks me to the side as she retreats, and then there's nothing I can do. My guy won't move anymore, no menus open, nothing. Rider Willie is still in front of the crystal, with the cipher peon right behind him. Game is just stuck now... :/ What do I do?

Huh, it seems one of the event tiles isn't working as intended. I can't fix anything once the bug has actually occurred, but I can release a quick patch to prevent that issue in the future.
I believe triggering the event from the center of the map (aka right below Venus) should prevent the crash, so if you want to move on, just try it again with that.

EDIT: Oh wait, I think the problem was triggered by which crystals were made active. That's a much more pressing issue, I'll be sure to fix it immediately.

EDIT2: Alright, the issue should be fixed.

So, I saw that after beating the game, it says "to be continued?"... does this mean there may more to come?

I had so much fun playing this! It was, indeed, polished and entertaining. Thank you so much for making it!

I never played any of the Orre Region games, and I had zero clue who any of these characters are going into this. So, I guess it's a testament to your skills that I managed to fall in love with the setting and the cast in the span of this game alone. There's truly so much I can learn from this game as a developer, notably, on the eventing side of things - how masterfully-crafted are those cutscenes! I love the amount of detail and effort that goes into them - the animations of Angelo as he wakes up, the constant spinning of Miror B, oozing so much personality, the glowing of the crystals as a Pokemon gets purified, the way the screen shifts to frame a scene, the tension I felt when all those portals start cracking open (did that old man just get sucked into one of the portals????), every single time Angelo and Willie ride off on that sick bike to a new destination...

Other things I liked:
  • The Outskirt Stand itself - soooo beautifully atmospheric, almost romantic, with its gears spinning, ambient sounds, the jukebox that plays a different tune when you interact with it, a lone restaurant in the middle of nowhere that never feels lonely because of Ernest the people that frequent there.
  • That running gag of that one trainer at the entrance of Kyan Village, challenging everyone she meets, only to find out that they're from her village. Really, the dialogue and humor throughout the entirety of the game never fails to put a smile on my face.
  • The inclusion of all other Shadow moves besides Shadow Rush; they bring a lot of additional depth to Shadow Pokemon fights, painful some of them may be!
  • The friends that were made along the way. How Ernest and Willie have Angelo's back every time. <3
  • When Willie greets Angelo... but surely, it cannot be a reference to this, right? It has to be my mind that's been poisoned by memes, right?? There's no way a dev who made such a sophisticated game named the protagonist Angelo just to make that silly joke, right???

Things that are just plain evil:
  • Establishing Willie as a ride-or-die friend on multiple occasions
  • You having to battle Willie when he invited you to his house for dinner, introduced to you his Ma, and gave you a shiny Zigzagoon
  • The sad face of Willie's trainer sprite constantly popping up during intervals of said battle to further increase the guilt you're already feeling
  • Establishing Ernest as a ride-or-die father figure on multiple occasions
  • Everything that happened to Ernest during the climax
(I'm just really, really glad it all turned out well ^^)

Some bugs:
  • The Venus event freeze that jeffrey1667 described above still persists for me (I think I activated all the crystals?), but that was resolved by going into Game.rxproj and inserting a THROUGH ON on Event 8's move route as he and Venus are leaving
  • The Hardy mints guy in Kyan Village doesn't seem to have a dialogue before the Nihilego event went down
  • Invisible box after opening it

From the Canadian, French community which plays Pokémon, I do greatly recommend this game. Without going into spoilers, the game has 2 of the 3 big assets that a Pokémon Game needs. Firstly, the Story is just phenomenal. A lot of emotions can be displayed and we even can feel it. Secondly, the game is not filled only of battles, we have the understanding of the scenario and everything that happens in the game makes sense. (View the Spoiler for more details.)

The game lasts arround 4 - 8 hours depending on your game speed. (Without the xSpeed mod.) Starting the game as Angelo, the main protagonist which suddently crashed in the middle of the desert still stays a mystery. Being rescued by our fellow favorite restaurant guy Ernest which is somehow managing a restaurant alone with the support of his clients. Then later on, we go battle some trainers with some shadow Pokémons since we discovered the snatch machine per accident clearly. (Was, his name I guess, dropped it while filling gas.) Afterwards, I did take a pause and visited the pokéspots to capture Pokémons, among them, a powerful Pokémon which I almost sweep the game with it : Gligar. (He can evolve later with the help of an old guy looking like someone I've recognized in a Pokémon FanGame French edition...) I've encountered some baldy guy, sweeped em, remembeerd that Willie was still weak. Speeding up the game torwards discovering how to purify our Pokémon in a cave. I had to beat up Venus which made me glitch in a tile but with the help of my magic tool the Debug.rb file I kept since I played Pokémon Reborn, makes me go throught the wall. The 2 last pieces of the puzzle is then the Kyan Village. Kyan Village is a key piece to finish your team up. You even encounter the ultra beast Poipole after you have some weird hum... vibe.
I won't talk much about the Kyan Village because most of the part there was absolutely amazing except... the part which I had to fight Willie with the guilt on my hand. (I wanted to lose the battle to see what happens and... if you lose, you have to restart again. Hope you have saved the game before thought.) At the end of the game now, our buddy Ernest wants to protect us by locking us in the storage room after tricking us into thinking theres some battle items or whatever he calls it. This moment is as well emotionnal because everyone that you have trusted... seems to have turned back against you, but suddently THE WHOLE SQUAD ARRIVES. Even the old non paying man. Damn. Then the last battle versus the Leader of the Cypher Coorperation... it was something! The difficulty of the battle was absolutely hard. (My Pokémons were between level 55 - 58 and I still had some struggle.)

After my story told, I will talk about 2-3 things about the actual game which I think it is necessary to say.
The game has a fantastic humor. Like... I laughed many times in this game.
  • The old man escaping by the window and Ernest which just says : Gah! Where'd he go?! It made me laughed so hard.
  • Then the girl trainer in Kyan which litteraly battles everyone gag. Turns out everyone (except us) comes from her village so she steps out.
  • The seven dudes in the Hexagon. Isn't an Hexagon a 6 side thing? The pink one just made me laugh instantly.
  • The bodybuilders are just... designs but oh god I laughed at the first one I encountered. (outside in Outskirt Stand)
This game was also rude for some reason.
  • At the end of the game, the Leader has 3 Shadow Pokémons. A Gengar, a Decidueye and the other thing from Scarlet/Violet game. The catch rate of Decidueye and the other pokémon made me lose 100+ balls while I was staling and heal pulsing the pokémon. (Reloaded the game as well quite a few times.)
  • Willie gives us a shiny Zigzagoon and then we have to fight him JUST BECAUSE THAT ST* CYPHER LEADER WANTS TO KILL WILLIE'S MA. Then I try to lose the battle and... it just makes a ''oh you have died in a pokémon battle, I'll make you respawn over the Outskirt but you have to redo the battle.)
  • Ernest is still in the hospital. (good ending but... if we pay a closer look, Wes, from Pokémon colloseum I'd presume since they both look the same but pixelised, has a darker side which is explained by non-pure soul.) If the story goes torwards Ernest which no longer exist... I'd imagine some reiews afterwards.
  • Lastly, I've purified my Kirlia, it took me litteraly 1 hour and half to understand how. Then I check the shop from Ernest wares and I see some scent which decreases the shadow lock from the pokémon... Couldn't I had the explaination or a sign of their existance?

This is the team which I used to do the game. MVP is Gliscor clearly.

Overall, if this is your first Pokémon FanGame that a player wants to play. I highly recommend it.
(This is my personnal review, I am not fluent with English so maybe some parts can be untrue but if I post it without any changes, it is a true judgement.)

I do have to wonder, for this Pokémon Game, did you do the game's story and designing (out of public ressources) alone ?
Because clearly, there's some talents to not forget.

I was the only developer working on this game, though I did at least manage to utilize a lot of public assets and scripts (though edited where needed) to get things done.
The only reason I was able to finish this game over the jam period was because of the time limit necessitating that I stay on schedule, since otherwise I'd end up procrastinating and not be able to release the game in a playable state. Heck, even in spite of that I had to shrink the game somewhat from my original plans.

That said, the total amount of dev time had to reach far into triple digits to get the result I ended up with, so I don't recommend that anyone follow in those footsteps unless they're dead-set on proving they can💀

Well, to be honest, I might play your other game Edge Rising, but I would say if ever you have another project in mind, I might follow the dev of the game closely. Will post a full feedback on the other one as well.

Talents is better than numbers!
Happy to test the saga of your futur games as well!
