What's your take on fan games/hacks adding "fake" types?

Are Pokemon getting "fake" types, fan additions for dual typing to a monotype, a turn off to you?

  • It's not a turn off, but I'd avoid it

By "fake" types, I mean adding a second type to an official mono type.
Changing a Pokémon's type is usually made with Regional variants, so it doesn't happen often to be considered for this thread.

Not exactly changing a mono to a dual-type but a pet peeve of mine is Bug/Dragon Flygon. Bug/Dragon is a much worse type than Ground/Dragon (also ffs it's the DESERT spirit) and by removing its Ground typing it's considerably weaker. You could also do the thing of giving it Tinted Lens and the extra Special Attack but isn't that breaking the core of the Pokémon too much?

I love type changes tbh, it makes things so interessing, and most of the time, more balanced
if I want to stick to the original formula then I'll just play a official game

I think it depends on the style of the game. For example, in increased difficulty Rom-Hacks, like Blaze Black 2 and Renegade Platinum, I like it, as it gives more variety, and since the focus of the games is on challenging battles, most of the time it brings attention to overlooked Pokémon and serves as a nice buff.
Now in games that have a whole new story and region, I'm not the biggest fan of it; I think it distracts from the story, I guess. And I specially dislike when a game has Fakémon and Region variants, but still changes a Pokémon's typing.
