CONTENT WARNING: The following fangame & the fanfic it loosely parallels is intended for mature audiences. Discretion is advised.

Welcome to Nuzlockology, an ongoing project I have been working on sporadically since roughly late 2020/early 2021.

This project is being worked using a combination of the "Pokemon Essentials" kit & JohtoBlaziken's "Bootleg FireRed" base.

This fangame is loosely based on the first book of a multi-game Pokemon Nuzlocke storyline series I have been writing for the past few years, aptly called, "Nuzlockology."

In Nuzlockology, you follow the adventures of a mysterious hooded head, cloaked face, psychic mage thing named, "Axis Vactaire," or just, "Axis."

Axis here has arrived in the Pokemon regions to a world in turmoil.

The mysterious Nuzlocke Disorder has been killing off Pokemon left & right, amongst other resulting disastrous phenomena throughout the regions.

While Axis does research & studying to decipher the origins of Nuzlocke Disorder, he meets many new faces along the way, both Pokemon & otherwise.

This fangame is currently playable all the way into the Elite 4 of the Kanto region, with plans of expanding into the Johto region (whilst also adding in more segments to the Kanto portion of the game).

Since this was developed on the Bootleg FireRed template foundation, this game will sorta play more like a "FireRed hack" as far as progression & whatnot. Certain bits of the game are still roughly the same, but most of it has been changed, improved, or otherwise revised over the initial BFR base it was originally. Many things set this apart from the vanilla FireRed experience including:
  • The ability to run as soon as you start the game
  • A revamped & dynamic PokeMart inventory system that changes as you collect badges
  • Accessibility to more of the Kanto region's Pokemon in different/earlier areas
  • Trainer teams & Pokemon movesets changed up, mostly for an added challenge
  • Several static gift Pokemon (based on characters from the Nuzlockology storyline) whose presence will be important throughout the game
  • Minor changes to the layout of several areas throughout Kanto, to accommodate new buildings, or for easier navigation & backtracking
  • Specialty shops scattered throughout the Kanto region (selling certain items that are normally not found in PokeMarts), built with an orange roof to distinguish them from regular PokeMarts, or occasionally designed as a different-looking facility altogether
  • A new evolutionary sub-branch of existing Pokemon, with base stats, movesets/learnsets, and abilities different than that of their regular counterparts
  • Gen 3 tilesets, Gen 4 in-battle sprites, Gen 5 movesets/learnsets & EXP system
  • A talking protagonist (this is still a work in progress, as more & more dialogue conversations in the game get edited, revised, and changed up as needed)

I have been working on this game on & off since August 2020, and it has been publicly available for a while, despite never having been given an official release announcement anywhere until now. The readme that comes with the game includes a list of many changes this game has undergone, and a list of future changes I intend on implementing down the line.

Much of this game currently has not been changed up from the initial BFR template, but most of the oversights/bugs/glitches/crashes in BFR have been fixed up for Nuzlockology RPGXP. I will be on the lookout for any more performance issues players might come across in this game.

More of the Nuzlockology storyline will be added into this game, including the introduction of two new Pokemon characters who will join the team, a new trainer class & a new system of boss fights (using this planned trainer class); these will all be worked on once I have found someone who is willing to contribute to this game by creating overworld, Pokemon, and trainer sprites based on the characters I am planning to add into the game (most importantly, overworld/trainer sprites for the protagonist character, so that the current default trainer protagonist sprites can be replaced).

Newer specialty shops will be built, and once the Kanto region has reached a point of completion with development, I will eventually start expanding into the Johto region.

Any & all feedback (and any personal opinions on the game/story) is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to seeing how this game fares out on here. Thank you very much for your time, and I hope you enjoy Nuzlockology~

-MissingNo Overworld Sprites (made by Manik-Needlemouse) -- to be implemented in the future
-Pokemon Gen 4-styled Overworld Sprites (originally submitted by Dragoon onto The Spriters Resource)
-Any in-game BGM tracks not already included in Essentials or Bootleg FireRed were acquired as YouTube rips (i.e.; missing parts of the RSE OST like the themes for Lilycove, Verdanturf, etc;)

Additional credits (re: from JohtoBlaziken):

Shoutouts to whoever helped me via volunteering for playtesting, bug testing, troubleshooting, assistance with graphics, and for teaching me the ropes of RPGXP while this game was initially under development before it became playable enough for a public release.

Screenshots from the game:
NZLCScreenshot002.png

Sometimes, the usual Pokemon Center services may be unavailable in a certain town/city, with an alternate venue in that same town/city available for use instead (perhaps like a house for the team to take up residence in, hint hint).

NZLCScreenshot003.png

Tired of the journey between Vermilion/Lavender & Fuchsia being too long? Not to worry, a new healing/PC/mart area has been built as an intermediate waypoint, and is just one of several new shops being built throughout Kanto just for this game.

NZLCScreenshot005.png

An unforeseen byproduct of the Nuzlocke Disorder crisis, sightings of a new evolutionary sub-branch of existing Pokemon species have begun to be reported across the regions. Are they weaker/stronger than their normal counterparts? How differently do they move, act, or behave compared to regular Pokemon? Only one way to find out...

NZLCScreenshot004.png

What's this? A gym facility demolished, as a result of the region falling on hard times? And, why is the protagonist talking? Aren't they normally silent? Play through the game to find out more~

New to v0.7.1, most of the Kanto region has had it's appearance changed to set the tone for a more modern, urbanized setting, and to show how much Kanto has changed between the events of regular canon Kanto and the events of Nuzlockology's timeline. Most of these new buildings, landmarks, shops, and other places of interest are currently inaccessible at the moment, but there are plans to make these visitable by players in the future.

Additionally, several new Pokemon forms have been created for the game, and may (or may not) become available for official use in-game for players.

NEW download link (old one is now outdated & obsolete; will no longer be updated): https://www.mediafire.com/file/03gb..._RPGXP_v0.7.1_%28THE_URBAN_UPDATE%29.zip/file

Shoutouts (and credits) to the following people for the following contributions utilized for this latest update:
-Elle for the red car tilesets
-Ekat99, Heartless Dragoon, Morlockhater, Nemu, Ross Hawkins, Pokemon Dawn, Slimshady, Thedeadheroalistar, The-Red-Ex, Vurtax, Aveontrainer, Shyinn, and Zein for the IRONMAPPER Season 5: Trial 1 Resource "Silph City" tileset, the Nightshade Resource "Rest Stop" Tileset", and the "Cherubi Station Tileset"

A more comprehensive list of ALL changes new to the v0.7.1 release:
-Wild encounters in most areas throughout the Kanto region have been rebalanced
-New Pokemon forms added to Pokemon.txt PBS file, a few existing ones edited slightly
-Three existing battlers (#650, #652, and #654) are present prior to v0.7.1, and simply edited slightly for a more up-to-date rebalancing
-Three other battlers (#651, #653, and #655) are old scrapped ideas that will likely be removed in a future update
-The remaining new battlers (#656 through #660) are newly introduced, complete, and ready for use in-game as of v0.7.1; however no official methods of acquisition exist for these new Pokemon in-game just yet
-Gradually renovating the overworld throughout the Kanto region for a more modernized, urbanized, industrialized, and colonized feel
-New & updated tilesets will be added/revised as needed in service for this major set of changes to the overworld
-Select assets from Ekat99's 'Silph City' tileset have been added to the 'Outside' tileset for planned future use
-Route/area names will also be renamed as needed
-Cinnabar Island layout overhauled to accommodate the pending creation of the new Cinnabar Ember Spa Resort (a Nuzlockology-exclusive mainland Kanto analogue of the Kindle Road Ember Spa)
-Fixed all sliding glass doors to use correct door sound effects
-Major changes to Viridian Junction (Viridian City), mostly cosmetic
-Fenced off patch of trees in the northwest part of the city have been cut down & cleared out for a new apartment complex, "Viridian Crossroads Apartments"
-Area in the southwest part of the city has been changed into a roadway & a park-n-ride area, the Dream Eater Move Tutor (normally blocked off by a Cut bush) has been replaced with an item ball containing a Metal Coat, located in the southeast corner of the park-n-ride (Cut HM still required for access)
-The pond has been relocated to north of the park-n-ride area
-Several new buildings (a bank, a coffee shop, an apartment office, a college, and a library) have been built to emphasize the booming colonization, urbanization, and population growth that has taken place throughout the Kanto region sometime between vanilla FR/LG's timeline of events & the beginning of Nuzlockology's AU timeline of events
-Moderate changes to Southern Pallet Port (Pallet Town), mostly cosmetic
-New houses & an outdoor area for Pokemon to frolic freely
-Major changes to Pewter Northwest (Pewter City), mostly cosmetic
-Pewter Pawners (available as of v0.5.0) Jewelry Store open for business
-Area in the northeast part of the city has been changed into roadway & a park-n-ride area
-Several new buildings (a bank, a coffee shop, a pizza parlor, an apartment tower, and more houses) have been built to emphasize the booming colonization, urbanization, and population growth taking place throughout the Kanto region
-Major changes to Port Vermilion (Vermilion City) currently in progress
-New hotel & parking lot (just for cosmetic purposes), "Port Vermilion Hotel Resort"
-New orange roof specialty shop (coming soon), "S.S. Aqua Duty Free Shop"
-New outdoor shop (similar to Slateport's outdoor market, coming soon), "Port Vermilion Bazaar"
Moderate changes to Saffron Central (Saffron City), either cosmetic or functional
-A train station & set of railroad tracks have been built in the northwest corner of the city; at the moment, this commuter railroad serves no purpose aside from cosmetic purposes; future planning may see this rail system become a means of going between Kanto & Johto in the post-game
-The Snorlax blocking the entrance to Saffron Central Gym now requires the Soul Badge to be interacted with, in addition to the Poke Flute being in the player's possession; this is to prevent players from potentially doing Fuchsia & Saffron's gyms out of order
-Route 1 has been given a major overhaul to it's appearance & layout, but existing NPCs' positions remain the same
-Most of the route has been changed to accommodate new houses, a park-n-ride area, a roadway, and some school buildings
-Route 2 (South) has been given a major overhaul to it's appearance & layout, existing Cut trees & item balls have been moved around
-Most of the route has been changed to accommodate new houses & a relocated tall grass section
-Route 2 (North) has been given a major overhaul to it's appearance & layout
-The northwestern part of the area has been cleared out to accommodate the building of the Pewter University Of Archaeology (cosmetic purposes only)
-The tall grass area that used to be located here has been relocated to the main path further southeast towards the Route 2 Viridian Forest Bypass Gate
-Due to this newly relocated section of tall grass now being inaccessible until after acquiring the Cascade Badge, the encounters have been changed
-The northeastern part of the area has had the entrance to Diglett's Cave redesigned
-After a certain Pokemon capable of "digging" joins the team, return here for a lategame surprise (>uo)
-Route 3 has been given a major overhaul to it's appearance & layout, but the trainers' positions remain the same
-Much of the route has been changed to accommodate new houses, a roadway, and a new area called "Mount Moon Square"
-Additionally, a new section of tall grass has been added to the southwest section of the route, to allow players to catch a new Pokemon on Route 3 without having to face most of the route's trainers first
-Route 4W now has a park near the Pokemon Center
-Route 4E has been given a major overhaul to it's appearance & layout, the area itself having been renamed "West Cerulean Hills"
-A completely new township has been built from scratch in this area, mimicking the appearance of a remote college town with housing & businesses surrounding a university with multiple campus buildings
-Route 5 has been slightly redesigned for sake of consistency with Saffron Central's layout
-Route 6 has been given a major overhaul to it's appearance & layout, with several trainers' positions changed around
-Much of the route has been changed to accommodate new houses, a park-n-ride area, and a roadway
-Route 10 has been given a major overhaul to it's appearance & layout, the area itself having been renamed "Northeastern Kanto Hills"
-Northeast Kanto Apparel (available as of v0.5.0) Clothing Store is open for business, but has been relocated much closer to the Pokemon Center
-A series of apartment towers, and a parking lot have all been built to set the tone of the newly colonized & populated area
-All tall grass has been relocated to south of the Pokemon Center, and is now locked behind Rock Smash, as the tall grass encounters have been changed to a series of much stronger, higher-leveled Pokemon (mainly to give players a new place to train during the later portions of the game's Kanto segment, due to the absence of the Sevii Islands from the game)
-Route 12 is now finally properly traversable (both on land & on water)
-Route 18 has been given a major overhaul to it's appearance & layout, with all existing trainers' positions changed around
-The area previously used for tall grass & the three Bird Keeper trainers has been cleared out for a new area called "Lake Fuchsia Bike Rental"
-Unlike most other park-n-ride-like areas throughout the rest of Kanto being just for show, this particular spot will play a larger role in the game's storyline in a future update further out
-A new smaller area with tall grass & the now relocated Bird Keeper trainers has been created just across the main path from the new bike rental lot
-Route 19 has been given a major overhall to it's appearance & layout with the two land-bound Swimmer trainers repositioned slightly
-The previous ledge & rock formations along the main path have been cleared out & replaced by a new orange roof specialty shop (coming soon), "Fuchsia Fitness"
-Additionally, in the absence of the previous terrain layout, a pizza parlor with some benches has been built
-Final Disclaimer for this version update: All of the new buildings, landmarks, and places of interest new to this update currently serve no purpose beyond appearance reasons, and as such, are all inaccessible at the moment; future updates may possibly involve some of these places becoming "visitable" by the player character

The screenshot really catching my attention is how you add parking lots and some vehicles both small and big. Although it's looks small improvement but actually add the feeling of urbanization on the city in the game who sometimes looks empty.
I gonna try this now. Happy hope you stay safe and healthy. See you🙂🙏
