-Introduction-
An open world Pokémon game using GBA graphics, but having Gen 8 Pokémon and mechanics. The overworld map alone is 250,000 tiles. Towns are arranged around the starting town. First four badges are in the closest towns and last four badges are in the furthest away towns. The game is loosely based on the original Red, Blue, and Green games.

There is limited leveling in the game, only three levels (more information below). The player must advance through the game by catching or evolving better Pokémon enabling them to take harder and harder quests traveling further from towns and eventually catch Legendary Pokémon. The player will also collect Heartscales and TMs to teach powerful moves to your Pokémon. Heartscales are scattered around the world, but are still fairly rare, and many Pokémon have a small chance of holding one when caught. TMs and battle items are mainly gained through quests.

I am a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout. This is my attempt at combining Pokémon with a quest style open world game with a little bit of Dark Souls thrown in. I believe this game has good potential and would love any help and/or advice. I have been using Pokémon Essentials to learn programming in a fun way so I can create my own games. Huge thanks to PokeCommunity.com and it's incredible members for all the amazing scripts. Without them this game wouldn't be even half of what it is! Check out the credits if you want to use some of the features in this game.

Demo includes 8 gyms and elite four. This is a non-profit fan-made game. Please support the official games!

Overworld Pokemon Update for 0.4.0 - Biggest Update Yet!
  • Overworld Pokemon just like Sword/Shield and Legends
  • Bigger Map! Now twice as big being 250,000 tiles.
  • Fast Forward Added
  • Ported to the new v20.1 Engine
More Pokemon Update 0.3.7 - Added safari zone, cinnabar mansion, power plants, cat breeder, and fossil seller.
Poke Rides Update 0.3.6 - Poke Rides has been added back into the game and it now includes flight masters in each city to fly from one to another. Unfortunately a player controlled flying Pokemon is not yet ready. Many, many bug fixes.

-Maps-
World Map Large Version -

Diglett Tunnels Large Version -
4iB96YB.png

Underwater Map Large Version -
qazH0qC.png

-Main Features-
Open World
- Currently 350x350 tiles
- The Diglett Tunnels and Underwater areas double the explorable area.
Biomes
- As best as possible Pokemon are found in their respective biome they would "naturally" be found in.
No Leveling
- There is limited leveling in the game. Pokemon can level to evolve but not futher. No numbers are ever seen.
- Look below for more details
Trainer Stats
- Players have Trainer Stats that can be increased by spending Skill Points
- Attack, Special Attack, Defense, Special Defense, and Speed
- Max is 10 for any trainer stat
- Each point will increase that stat by 2% for all the player's Pokemon to a max of 10 points (20%)
- Skill Points are gained by defeating gyms, completing quests, etc...
- Skill Points can be spent by visiting a Stat Trainer in one of the cities
Redon EV and IV System
  • EVs and IVs are both between 1-10
  • IV formula is unchanged, it just makes less of a difference
  • EV formula has been changed to 2% increase per stat increase (Max 20%)
  • EVs are now gained by spending Effort Points
  • Effort Points are awarded after filling a hidden Effort Point Experience Bar by winning battles
  • Effort Values have a total max of 20 points
Quest System
Limited Trainer Dodging

- Trainers will only engage the player when it makes sense for the setting or current quest.

-No Leveling-
- The levels were left in-game for bug testing. They will eventually be removed.
  • Really there are three levels for a player's pokemon (68-70) These are needed for evolution and 68,69 are only used for Pokemon that need to evolve through leveling. (Ex. 68-Bulbasaur, 69-Ivysaur, 70- Venasaur). Other Pokemon that don't evolve by level are set at 70.
  • The exp bars are left for a gauge as to when the Pokemon will evolve.
  • If Pokemon evolve too fast the equation can be altered.
  • Enemy Pokemon will have a wider range from 50-100+. For the demo trainers will be from 50-70+
  • Moves will not be gained through level any longer. They will either be learned from the Move Tutor in exchange for a heartscale or taught from a TM. Heartscales are scattered across the world. There are a limited number of heartscales scattered across the world. Heartscales can also have a 5% chance of being held by many wild Pokemon. Unless the Pokemon normally holds another item when caught, it has a chance of holding a heartscale.
  • Pokemon will start with the first four moves the Pokemon is able to learn.
  • This creates a different style of progression thoughout the game. It also prevents the player from just overpowering their way through gyms with high level Pokemon. The player will constantly be at a disadvantage.

-Gyms-
- First four gyms are closest from the Starting town and arranged North, South, East, and West. They will have three or four Pokemon each.
  • The last four gyms are furthest away from the Starting Town and arranged NW, NE, SW, and SE. They will have a full six Pokemon team.
  • Elite Four will be normal.

-Rival-
The starter pokemon for the player is either Squirtle, Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Pikachu. (changed from starting with rattata)
  • The Rival gets the other four Pokemon for his starters. This makes the first battle unwinnable and the next four very difficult.
  • This is an attempt to create a better rivalry. Nothing is handed to the player. The player must earn everything for themselves.

-Downloads-
This is a demo that includes 8 gyms and the elite four. I have included access to the developer room after the player chooses a Pokemon. This room is for bug testing and skipping parts of the game. Use this room sparingly if you want to try a legit playthrough. It will not be included in the final game.

Extract the entire contents of the downloaded file into the same folder on your computer. Optionally, create a shortcut of the Pokemon - Return To Blaze And Blade.exe inside the newly created folder with the same name. Place the shortcut on your desktop like any other game. Enjoy!

this game is not worth to play. no levels = no strong moves😅

this game is not worth to play. no levels = no strong moves😅
Uh, if you read that section all the way, they already explained how to get stronger moves.
Also, would you really dismiss a whole game just because of a small movepool?

Why would you comment this and dislike his reponse if you didn't read the description to understand how to get a better moveset. His game idea is unique and different than the standard Pokemon or fan game and I think its pretty cool. No need to haggle if you don't like his idea. I for one think it will be cool and I'm going to try it.

Looking at the giant map, it may benefit from some patches of snow near the snow boarder. Without it, it feels a bit unnatural, but that could be just personal preference. Regardless, it looks like a really cool project; best of luck!

The game has been ported into Essentials 19.1 and runs without lag and at a steady fps. The outside world is now on a single map. The game has 8 gyms and the elite four, as well as 5 rival battles and 16 trainers that can each be battled 5 times. I will be writing and adding quests and the main story. Looking for advice and feedback.

Currently a pokemon must win 5 times to get an effort point. And skill points for trainer stats are only awarded by gym leaders so far. I will be altering the formula for effort points as the game progresses and would love feed back. To help players along I have included access to the developer room for bug testing that gives unlimited money, heartscales, tms, effort points and skill points after the player chooses a pokemon in the back of Professor Oak's Lab. I will be moving on to quest implementation and writing the main story.

Enjoy!

Try checking for a file called Game with the file type .ini in the zip or rar file that you downloaded. It should be in the folder "Pokemon - Return To Blaze and Blades 0.2.0 Demo". This entire folder should be transferred to the folder of your choice on your computer, not just the .exe file. Then you can make a shortcut of the .exe to put on your desktop just like any other game. If you did do these things and the Game.ini file does not appear in the zip or rar file, try redownloading the zip or rar.

Thanks for this as I didn't provide good instructions as to how to install my game. I will include a README in the download from now on and include a detailed description above the download. I hope this helps. Feel free to message back if you have any other difficulties.

Large update to the Demo. Many, many bug fixes and Poke Rides has been added back in. I'm still waiting on the official Pokerides plugin for v19 but this one works great for now. Flight Masters have been added in each city for fast travel using Pokerides. Unfortunately a player controlled flying Pokemon is not ready yet. I am planning on uploading updates regularly from now on to keep this page more up to date with where I am.

Biggest Update Yet! Overworld Pokemon like Sword/Shield and Legend! Bigger Map! Now twice as big being 250,000 tiles. Fast Forward Added. Ported to the new v20.1 Engine. This update is a bit more intensive for the computer. I tried to add Following Pokemon but the game slowed to a crawl in the overworld and PokeRide has been removed again. Huge thanks to Maruno! Best update yet!
