I've posed this idea before in a few other places but never really gotten any feedback outside my own friend circle, so I feel like posting it to a bit of a larger community.
Basically, people take commissions for a lot of things; fan art, fanfiction, sometimes entire games get commissioned and paid for like that. Within the Pokemon fangame community, the concept of making custom assets such as new Pokemon and alternate graphics for UIs and tilesets isn't unheard of to be commissioned by someone. But what about maps? Maps are a big cornerstone of a lot of material in general, not even exclusive to fangames. You can use them to design a region for a tabletop campaign, you can use them for a video or sprite comic series, it doesn't need to be strictly for fangame development.
The reason I bring this up is, I love making maps. I fancy myself at least a moderately good map designer, and it's one of my biggest passions to just design levels and create a traversable world for people to explore. I also am in a position where making money is not something I can do easily, as a result of some complicated situations. I figure, why not try and make money doing something I enjoy?
So basically the question is, how would you all feel if someone decided to open up commissions for map design? Do you have any issues with the idea of it, stuff that would need to be addressed? How would you want it to be handled if so? What other thoughts would you have in regards to this?
