Pokémon - Blue to the Rescue
BURBRMk.png

The OG Rival, Blue, is finally taking the front seat in his very own adventure! It's been roughly 10 years since his first journey through Kanto, and now he runs the Battle Tree with Red in Alola. However, Red seems to have mysteriously disappeared and for three months, Blue has had to run the Battle Tree by himself until he couldn't take the lack of challengers anymore. Now, Blue is finally back in Kanto with only one goal in mind... to kick Red's butt!

Things have really changed in Kanto since Blue last visited and not for the better. Most of the Gyms, including his own, are gone, some cities are in total ruin, and the weather's gone crazy in some areas! But the biggest shock of is the wave of shadowy looking trainers, some of which are holding Shadow Pokemon! Thankfully he has Sabrina to help him see and battle these trainers, but will their efforts be enough to fix Kanto? There's only one way to find out!

Pokémon - Blue to the Rescue v1.0.3

Notes
Play as the OG rival Blue in his very own adventure! See what's become of Kanto after 10 years, and solve the mystery of Red's disappearance. Team up with Gym Leader Sabrina, and face off against a handful of Shadow Trainers, but be careful! Some of them are carrying Shadow Pokémon that have been stolen from the strongest trainers in Kanto!

For best looking graphics, play with the screen size set to M or XL.

Some features include:
  • Hand Drawn Pokémon, Trainers, and Cutscene Graphics
  • GBA-Style Music (Courtesy of MezmerKaiser, Meeow's Music, Zame, and ENLS)
  • PMD-Style Item Pickup (Pick up Items by Walking Over Them)
  • Level Caps and Level Scaling
  • Sabrina, the Psychic-type Gym Leader, as your Partner
  • New Custom Pokémon Evolutions and Convergent Species
  • Massive Starting Inventory (Start your Journey with Several Items Already in Blue's Bag!)
  • Speed-Up Button (Q on Keyboard)
Known Bugs:
  • Sabrina's levels are a little inconsistent at the moment, but it's nothing game-breaking. This is usually fixed by turning her option off and on again.
  • If you lose all your Pokémon in a battle first and then Sabrina loses, you might get stuck in an infinite loop.

YOOOO! Thanks so much! If there's anything I can improve, let me know! I'd love to hear what your favorite part of the game was!
I would say my fav part of the game was the pokemon that is in picture drawn and blue with sabrina team up in the game and items that is on the ground you just walk thru to pick them up i love the sound of that c:

Hey, y'all! The first ever update for Pokémon - Blue to the Rescue is out! See what's new and different here:

  • Sabrina's levels have been adjusted and are now slightly more consistent.
  • Sabrina's Pokemon will now have their intended movesets at all times.
  • Several bushes and fences that were walk-through like are no longer passable.
  • Adjusted Pokemon Metrics for the Pokemon on Sabrina's team.
  • The useless Dawn Stone in the Celadon Mart has been replaced with the Ice Stone.
  • Credits now include the full Gen 9 Project Credits rather than the short version.
  • Celadon City's Battleback was changed to Fields Trees Day by Magiscarf
  • Adjusted the encounter rates in Lavender Town
  • Add Pokemon Essentials Credits to credits.txt
  • Adjusted Title Screen Graphic

The three starters you can get in Pokémon - Blue to the Rescue weren't picked at random! In fact, a lot of Pokémon in this game have secrets to them! See what new ways you can evolve them here!

Is the game have full screen option not only the screen size of m and xl?

Yes, there is a Full Screen option as well as S, M, L, and XL. I only recommend M and/or XL because the hand-drawn graphics and the town map appear to scale the best in those two settings, but the other settings are by no means unplayable

I just try this and for all the story goofiness this game story surprisingly deep have many serious moment. Love this game i hope someday you can make full game new region with gym and league but with this style. Amazing game and take some rest because you deserve it 🎉🎉🎉

Hello, just finished with this game.
The cutscenes with your drawings and the funny dialogues made the game very unique and enjoyable.

I liked most of the drawings for Pokémon as well. My favorite designs were Golbat and Wobbuffet.
I loved the fact that some Pokémon had new evolution methods. The Farfetch'd familiy's signature move was amazing and helped me a lot throughout the game.
Special mention to Bellbuddy also. This evolution was particularly well thought!

Also thank you for putting all those QoL items on the key pocket of the bag. That permitted to keep the game going fluid and also was also well thought for making it easy to complete the sidequest with the safari Pokédex.

Here are some points which could be improved imo:

  • I found the sidequest to capture every Pokémon which fled away from Safari Zone is very tedious at this moment. The 50 steps to recharge the Pokéradar combined to the fact that the encounter rate of the safari Pokémon was very low even with the Pokéradar are the two main causes. Maybe make Tracy give you something which could increase their rate when you've completed a certain percentage of that Pokédex could help with those issues.

  • The gameplay loop started to get a little bit repetitive during the late game. I think reducing the number of shadow trainers to 5 or 6 per town can help with this issue while still permiting you showcase some dark Pokémon and your new cool Pokémon designs.

  • Mixing Gen 3 charsets with Magiscarf tiles felt a little strange for me. But that's maybe due to the fact that I am too much used to see those tiles associated with Gen 4 Charsets.

  • Sabrina automatically joins my team for battle after I beat any boss.
  • Bill's house cinematic triggers each time I interact with his door. The player can even get softlocked in his house if that cinematic triggers a second time and he saves the game inside his house.
  • Pokéradar connot be used in biking road. Same thing in Route 11 where there are ony tall grass. Not sure if it prevents you from completing the Safari Pokédex though.
  • The game softlocks if I interact with one of the boulders near the Masterball (see image).
  • Very minor, but I can walk in the brown houses in Celadon City if I enter by top (see image).
  • Very minor also, but every poison type Pokémon spam poison type moves on my Bellbuddy 😂

Overall, I enjoyed playing your game. It got a little bit repetitive near the end, but all the other positive aspects kept me continue in order to find out what was actually going on with Kanto. Very good job :)

First off, thank you for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it overall!

Second, thank you for every bit of input given! It really helps a lot. I'm already working on improving everything you've mentioned.
- I find it very odd that you had a hard time finding the Poke Radar encounters as I actually set those to be very high in probability. Were you checking in specifically the violently shaking grass?

- I can lower the win requirement fairly easily, but it probably won't be by much. Their defeat is somewhat necessary for the levels to increase at a more natural pace.

- Sabrina rejoining is intentional as she has to switch to a different version of her trainer in order for her levels to increase for the next boss. I'll most likely include a message indicating that.

- There should be a Self-Switch preventing that Bill's house cinematic from happening again. I'm not sure why it's getting ignored. I might try a regular Switch to see if that fixes it.

- Thank you for pointing out Cycling Road. That was a complete oversight on my part, and unfortunately that means Electrike is currently unobtainable. Route 11 has a patch of short grass to compensate for the incompatible tall grass.

- Genuinely I think there's a bug with Strength boulders in general. I thought I found a way around this, but it looks like I'll have to look into it more.

- Tileset issue, I'll have that fixed easy.

- Lol, not sure how to fix that, but it's so funny I kinda wanna keep it that way. The enemy AI is smart enough to realize Poison is 4x effective but too dumb to realize that Pokemon has an ability negating it

Cool team! I like that you used all three of the possible starting Pokemon!

I appreciate your kind words, and I definitely did get a lot of rest after the initial deadline lol, but there's still plenty more to come!

I've gotten a lot of great feedback these past couple days! Thank you for that! With that being said, it's time for one more update for the Game Jam version of Pokémon - Blue to the Rescue! Here's everything that's new and different!

  • Fixed the Fly Map which previously didn't allow you to pick a location
  • Adjusted a few of the Move Animations
  • Reduced the number of steps needed to recharge the Poke Radar from 50 to 10
  • Vigorously shaking grass is now more likely to appear when using the Poke Radar
