Planning a Pokemon like game

Hey, so I recently made a game for a jam called flash forward, essentially using flash to make video games in current year. I have a working demo of my idea that I can play. I was thinking about making a full game, but I have never planned out a Pokémon game or anything like it. So I wanted to ask if you guys on the forum had any tips I could use to help me. What goes into the planning process for making a fan game?

I made a guide where planning is one of the main themes (it focus on Essentials but most of info works for any pokémon game).

In a nutshell: I plan the main structure, around 90% of places, bosses and story before I start.
