Who do I want?
Composers! (Yes, plural, I'll tell you why.) I'm not looking for Pokemon's specific style, but instead for people who have experience composing outside of it. If there's something specific Phantasia's sound will be inspired by - it's musical theater.
Pokemon soundtracks often stay at the same level of bombastic, trumpet-filled intensity the whole way through, but...not so here. The battle themes and rare cutscene themes will be full and emotional, but the overworld themes (for the most part) will stay subdued and atmospheric, with only a little percussion.
What is this game, even?
Pokemon Phantasia is a game set in Craice-Anne - a region where the Gyms have fallen out of favor, and where the Healing Machines rust in warehouses. It's also a region where a warm polka-dot bed waits for you in every Pokemon Center, and a Pokemon can come to life from household rubbish.
You play as a teenage drifter called Alex. Along with all the other children of Craice-Anne who failed their Pokemon Journey, they call the 'Masque Performing Arts' their home ... but the rest of the region calls them an evil team.
Alex is about to make a very big mistake.
Some (hopeful) features include:
How's it going?
I have an unusual way of creating - just over half of the game's cutscenes and compulsory maps are completed, but the gameplay itself has just started developing.
Most of this is because I want to give Pokemon Phantasia a storyline to be proud of, and I can't do that if scrapping a boring, problematic, or useless plot point also means scrapping the hard work that's been put into the gameplay. I've seen a lot of fanworks where the creator's obviously grown up while it's being made, and while that's always cool to see, I want to put out something more cohesive.
What positions do you want?
Overworld Musician
As I've said before, these themes will be more subdued, simple, meandering, and atmospheric. They will likely have shorter loops, too!
If you'd like an example from a Pokemon game, try Legends: Arceus! I imagine this will be the easiest position in terms of workload.
Character Musician
These themes will be dedicated to the characters, cutscenes, and possibly any overworld areas that deserve their own 'theme music.'
Phantasia's story is driven by a gang of flawed and strange characters who try to do the right thing, but don't know how. The only truly 'evil' characters are the ones that don't care if they're careless.
If you like injecting a lot of...well, character, into your music and can engage with the story, this should be the position for you!
Battle Musician
These themes...well, it's self-explanatory. Again, I won't hold you to the Pokemon style, even in staples like the trill in wild battle themes. I imagine this game will have less unique battle themes than most projects?

Of course, send me an example of your music! Ideally, tell me what composer's position you're applying for.

Some (hopeful) features include:
- A game built around an unreal time system. (If you don't know what that is, think Stardew Valley.) You can't stay awake hunting Pokemon all night!
- Many, MANY small tweaks to make that massive change work. One heal a day is all you're getting.
- Day, night, and seasons! (Don't worry, I won't make you compose seasonal versions of every song.)
- Upwards of 60 Fakemon have been designed, with more to come!
