I am looking for people who are interested in joining the Pokemon Hollow Woods development team. Right now, the game has a completed demo through the first five gyms, and the remainder of the region and storyline have been planned out. I am the only member of the team at the moment, and have done essentially all of the work (except for the public resources, of course!). My background is in coding, not art or music, and I am looking for some team members who can help spruce up the overall feel of the game by contributing some skills. This is a great fit if you're looking to have relatively free reign artistically but want to join a project with enough progress to make sure that your work won't go to waste! The game has roughly a Gen IV style in terms of tiles and OWs.
I'm looking to recruit:
- Mappers/Tile artists: the game right now looks...fine (see the screenshots below). If you would be interested in making it look better, either by creating tiles or by making better use of existing tiles, please let me know! This is my highest priority.
- Spriters: the current battle sprites for OCs in the game, again, are...fine. The custom mega evolution sprites that I am using are public. If you like making either of these things, I'd love to have you!
- Musicians + anything else: If the game looks interesting to you and you would like to contribute any other custom resources please reach out!
The project thread can be found here. If you're trying to figure out whether this is a good match for you, I'm also happy to send you the current five-gym demo on Discord. I've copied the rest of the thread below to give you some context:
The Oblar region is divided. Oblar has a long tradition of rule by elected Senators - skilled trainers and politicians who serve as local gym leaders as well as legislators. Lately, though, it seems the Senators can't agree on anything. All of Oblar is suffering, especially people and Pokémon that depend on the Great Forest, which occupies the center of the region.
Your mother, a Senator, is dealing with the latest crisis: the extinction of Oblar's native Pokémon species. To help, you begin a journey to help catalog Oblar's Pokémon species, taking on the region's gyms along the way. But this journey is upended when you start having mysterious visions of the forest - could these have to do with a legendary Pokémon? And who is going to stop the sinister group that hopes to bring down Oblar's government?
Characters:
You: You grew up in sheltered Prado Town, the child of the esteemed Senator Mara. As you embark on your journey, you will learn what much of the region really thinks of your mother. Will you remain loyal to her?
Sen. Mara: Your mother, a Senator specializing in Normal-type Pokémon. Mara is convinced that Oblar must be modernized and connected to the other regions of the Pokémon world. Any consequences of this modernization are acceptable collateral damage.
Sen. Argus: Mara's chief political opponent. Argus is quiet for a Senator, but don't underestimate him - he can be particularly fierce when defending Oblar's way of life.
Denton: A boy from Prado Town. Although he's about your age, you don't know very much about him. Denton's upbringing has made him skeptical about the Senate, and he's hardly thrilled to be rivals with Senator Mara's child.
Hermia: One of Senator Mara's biggest fans. An aspiring future Senator, she is thrilled to get a Pokémon alongside Senator Mara's kid. Although she idolizes Mara, how will she react when she meets her political hero?
Prof. Larch: A researcher investigating the disappearance of Oblar's native Pokémon species. She seems like the perfect person to ask about Oblar's biggest issues - hopefully nothing happens to her!

- A carefully balanced regional Pokédex with selections from all 8 Pokémon generations as well as custom mega evolutions.
- Pokémon Tunnels: mysterious dens filled with puzzles that appear around Oblar. You can catch rare Pokémon inside, but be careful to avoid a cave-in!
- New hidden items that allow access to powerful items and evolutions.
- Level Boost: automatically level up Pokémon to certain thresholds, allowing newly-captured Pokémon to be used without grinding.
- Field items: special items given by the Senate that replace (and sometimes improve on) HMs.
- Frequent puzzles and challenges: rare Pokémon and items can sometimes only be accessed by completing minigames and puzzles.
- Challenging gameplay: while grinding is likely never necessary, most boss fights will require strategy to complete.
- (Almost) entirely custom user interface.
- Cameos by some of your favorite characters from main series games!
