Project: New Bloom

One Sentence Summary

Project: New Bloom is a project that attempts to create a long-lasting, ever-evolving game world and community built on a non-standard Pokémon game formula.

Setting and Story

After Opelucid City freezes, you and your older sibling move to the diverse region of Nebera. When you first arrive in the central city, it contains only a few merchants and essential NPC’s to get you going. Once you finally begin your journey as a trainer, you are free to explore the entire region and its eleven different biomes as you please!

Along your journey, you meet the leaders of each biome— all of whom ask you to help them unite the region. Complete each leader’s trial to earn their token to successfully unite each biome. Each biome’s token also allows you to invite unique characters to the city to expand it further. The more tokens you earn, the more the central city develops, as residents of the other biomes begin to move in.

Regular Content Updates

To keep players engaged, our island world will be constantly evolving and expanding with new content. Inspired by Pokémon Go, updates will come with special “Events” with new Pokémon entering spawn pools, new battle scenarios, increased shiny rates for certain Pokémon and occasionally, new locations for the player to explore, all centered around a theme (e.g. Christmas, Fire Types, Legendaries, etc.). This is all possible without interrupting the experience of the game due to the non-linear storyline.

Fakémon and Regional Forms in limited quantities

Fakémon will be included in Project: New Bloom, however, the focus of the game remains on Canon Pokémon, so Fakémon will be sparse in the world. We want to make encountering a new Fakémon an exciting and interesting choice, rather than forcing the player to play with unfamiliar Pokémon. This same rule applies to Regional Forms, trying to keep to a reasonable amount for players.

Quest System

Progression in Project: New Bloom can be approached through the quest system available to all players at the beginning of the game. The non-linear format of the game encourages players to complete quests at their own pace, with some quests containing multiple methods of completion. NPC’s around the world will be happy to provide tasks to the players with bountiful rewards, and to enhance the game’s experience.

City Builder

When the player arrives in the main city of Project: New Bloom, it contains only a few merchants and essential NPC’s to get the player going. It is up to the player to explore the world for merchants, tutors and other talents to recruit back to the city. Over time, the city will evolve and become a hub for all of the services a trainer would need.

Player customization and outfit unlocks

The player will be able to fully customize their appearance at the beginning of the game with limited outfit choices. Throughout your adventure you will unlock new pieces of clothing to style your character with. The following GIF shows the range that the character customization allows for.

Home purchasing and customization — upgraded secret bases

Expanding upon the much-beloved Secret Base mechanic, first introduced in Generation 3, Homes are a natural next step for the idea. Players will be able to find homes available to them in almost every biome that can be filled to the brim with player acquired furniture, ornaments and even the spoils of your victories. Items such as Rotom appliances, healing machines, PCs and Egg Dispensers give function beyond aesthetic, to create an area which you can truly call Home.

Overworld Pokémon Encounters

Overworld Encounters are the main method for encountering Pokémon in the wild. This is to reflect the open nature of the game and to offer more agency to the player. In addition, the Pokémon in the wild scale based on your progression and team level. Feel free to return to areas you have already visited for much stronger and evolved Pokémon!

Discord integration — Rich Presence implementation

Let your friends know how you are doing at a glance! With Discord Rich Presence implementation, you can share your game experience with others through Project: New Bloom’s descriptive Rich Presence. Examples of different Rich Presence status’ are shown below.

DEVELOPMENT AND RECRUITMENT UPDATE

Hey everyone,

Over the last few months, steady work has developed on the game, but the biggest piece of news on the development side is the upgrade to Pokémon Essentials v19 along with EBDX as the main battle system! In the previous post we avoided showing in-game screenshots of the battle system, as we assumed that we would convert to EBDX when it released. With that being said, please have a quick look at two in-game Regional Forms: Neberian Ralts and Neberian Lopunny!

In addition, our recruitment priorities have changed.

We are in desperate need of mappers to assist with creating the remainder of the world. For good work, we are willing to pay commission for these maps. Even if you cannot map, but know of someone who might fit the bill, please share this with them to hopefully find them some work. Other positions are still available however so please referring to the post above!

Thank you for reading and I can't wait to hear from you all,

James (TwentyExEx#0258 on Discord)

Hello, fellow human being!
My name is Max, but I typically go by Ninja Potato Lorf (sometimes just Lorf or occasionally just Ninja) and I am interesting in working on this game.
I'm primarily a writer, but I am also a novice sprite artist with a general understanding of how coding works. Writing is my wheelhouse though, so if you still need a guy to create quest lines or any other form of NPC dialogue, I can be that guy. (And if you don't, I'm sure I can still find a way to make myself useful.)

My Discord account is Ninja_Potato_Lorf#6156. Let's talk and see if I'd be a good fit for the project.

Hello. My name is Don, but I also go by KoffingMugg. I am currently interested in working on a fanmade Pokémon game and would like to apply for the position of scripter/eventer and quest writer. I also sent you a friend request on Discord under the belief that it was a means of directly messaging you. Please disregard that.

Here is a link to my DeviantArt page as an example of my writing skills. My Discord account is KoffingMugg#6112. Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
