This project is dubbed "Origins" for its ground-up approach to gameplay. Just as how the anime series Pokémon Origins returned to the franchise's roots in a way closer to the source material, so too does PMDO aim to return to PMD's roots as both a roguelike, and a Pokémon game.

Summary:

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Origins, you control a team of Pokémon, and explore Guildmaster Island. Your goal is to reach the fabled summit, and earning the right to lead a guild yourself. Remeniscient of Sky Peak arc in Explorers of Sky, you will find many other teams with similar goals and stories. Befriend wild Pokémon with apricorns to add them to your team, and build an assembly of Pokémon worthy of reaching the top!

Features:

-Pokémon Mystery Dungeon's roguelike battle system. Enemies move only after you move. Take your time to plan and strategize.
-Randomized dungeons that break out from the traditional boxy room-and-hall structures.
-A unique catalog of items, including old favorites such as the Pierce Orb, main series tools such as the Choice Scarf, and original utilities such as the Assembly Box.
-A Team Mode toggle, allowing players to control each team member's individual turns in those tough situations that require coordinated efforts.
-A unique recruitment system: Apricorns are scattered throughout the dungeon and can be thrown at wild Pokémon to function identically to the main series's Pokéballs.
-Moves/Abilities are tweaked to suit a battle system that pays closer attention to range and positioning.
-Supports XBox and Switch Pro Controllers, and key/button remapping.
-Online Trade, Online/Offline Rescue.
-Modding support allows you to make your own maps, special episodes, or even a full game!


Engine:
The game is created using FNA, and a custom roguelike engine created from scratch.
I have made them all open source:

RogueEssence - a generic base for creating graphical roguelikes.
RogueElements - a highly extensible dungeon generation system.

Dieses Projekt heißt "Origins", da es einen sehr bodenständigen Ansatz im Gameplay anstrebt. Zusammenfassung:


In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Origins kontrollierst du ein Team von Pokémon und erkundest die "Guildmaster Island"(=Gildenmeister-Insel). Dein Ziel ist es den sagenumwobenen Gipfel zu erreichen und damit das Recht zu erlangen selbst eine Gilde zu führen.
Ähnlich wie in der Geschichte um den Himmelsgipfel in Erkundungsteam Himmel wirst du viele andere Rettungsteams mit ähnlichen Zielen und Geschichten finden. Nutze Aprikokos um dich mit wilden Pokémon anzufreunden und sie deinem Team hinzuzufügen. Erstelle ein Team von Pokémon das würdig ist den Gipfel zu erklimmen!

Engine:
Dieses Spiel ist mit FNA und einer eigens dafür entworfenen Rogue-like Engine entwickelt worden.

Sommaire:

Dans Pokémon Donjon Mystère : Origines, vous incarnez une équipe de pokémon, et explorez l'île du maître de guilde. Votre but est d'atteindre le Sommet Mythique, et gagner le droit de créer et diriger une guilde vous-même. Questo progetto è stato ribatezzato "Origins" per via del suo approcio basilare al gameplay. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Origins, giochi controllando un team di Pokémon che esplora l'Isola del Maestro Gilda. Il tuo obiettivo è quello di raggiungere la leggendaria vetta e di guadagnarti il diritto di guidare tu stesso una gilda. Este projeto tem o nome "Origens" devido a sua abordagem "de volta as origens" em seu gameplay. Assim como o anime Pokémon Origins retornou as raízes da franquia principal, de forma mais próxima ao material fonte, PMDO também mira retornar as raízes da franquia PMD, tanto como um roguelike quanto um jogo Pokémon.

このゲームの概要

このゲームの目標はポケモンのチームを操作して、ギルドマスター島を探検して、伝説の探検隊となってギルドを率いる権利を得ることです。
同じ目標を持ったライバルや、それぞれのストーリーを持ったほかの探検隊とも出会うことができます。
また今作の特徴の一つであるぼんぐりを野生のポケモンにあげることで仲間にすることもできます。

特徴

ー原作同様のローグライクシステムとなっています。z分が動かないと相手は動きません。時間をかけて自由に作戦を立てながら行動することもできます。
ー従来の箱庭型の部屋とは一味違う!?ランダムな地形のダンジョン(=不思議のダンジョン)を冒険することができます。
ー原作からふしぎだまや宝箱などのおなじみのあのアイテムからオリジナルのアイテムまでユニークな様々なアイテムがあります。
ーなかまモード(翻訳途中のため名前が変わるかもしれません)により、主人公だけでなく、仲間も操作することができます。
ーダンジョン中に落ちているぼんぐりを相手にあげることでモンスターボールみたいに仲間にすことができます。
ー技は射程距離などが原作は一部異なり、より戦略性を生むことができます。
ーXBoxやSwitchのプロコン、キーボードな操作など幅広い操作方法に対応しています。
ーオンラインとオフライン両方でのともだあちきゅうじょやどうぐこうかんに対応しています。
ーMODをサポートしており、新たなストーリを追加することができます。本ゲームには開発ツールも付属しており、それを使用することができます。(気になる方はぜひ、ディスコードに加入お願いします。まあ、日本語のプロジェクトはまだ始める準備中なんですけとね。)

Modding:

-Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Origins supports modding, and can be started in Developer mode with a full array of editors.
-Mods can be exported as standalone games of their own and be released as separate games! Just be sure to include the proper credits for the engine.

-The full source of the game, containing all assets and code, is available to view and fork on Github: PMDODump and its submodules PMDC and DumpAsset. They use the MIT License.
-As development on the game continues, unreleased data will appear on these repositories and be viewable before official release. You are free to spoil yourself on what is uploaded if you believe it enhances your experience with this project. Do not ruin the experience of others.


Roadmap:

-One additional demo is planned for the future. It will feature changes from demo feedback and bug reports that are actionable in the short term.
-Another demo, v0.8, will add beta content that consists of the full game, but with temp text for initial impressions. This is expected in the spring of 2024.
-The full release will then follow. It will finish the minimalistic storyline and include most postgame challenges.
-If I can afford the time and effort, I will include a final postgame conclusion.

The PMDO Demo is now released! It features 7 dungeons- 4 that serve as the typical start of PMD and 3 which provide a taste of Zero Isle-like challenge. Enjoy!

The game in its current state is also fully moddable- all editors have been implemented to the base level of usability, which can be learned by following the Modding Tutorial.

Some mods have already completed or are playable from early users:
-Starter mods to expand the initial roster
-An extra dungeon added to the main game
-A mini-campaign functioning like a Special Episode!
-A demo of one's own story-driven fangame!
-A full revamp of PMD1 and 2 using the PMDO engine!

We need to get the skytemple community involved in this! Imagine this with its own hack jams and community! This is also a good alternative to skytemple for people that don’t want to pirate a rom (like me).

I'm definitely looking to start a jam, especially since this game is a part of SkyTemple's PMDCollab project. It's planned when the tools a little more mature.

I've updated the download links to be a setup installer now instead of a zip. This is to unify the build process since it's gotten confusing managing help requests against 0.5.8 when the bugs may have already been resolved in 0.5.14, among other issues.

As an added benefit, this does mean an easy way to update the game!

That’s great! I’m currently learning Lua for use in PMD Origins among other things. I’d also be interested in learning more about Skytemple’s PMDcollab project, where can I find out about it?

Since the last post, PMDO has been updated to 0.7.5, featuring new dungeons and mechanics such as grass and reworked assembly mechanics. Modding has been greatly expanded on with friendlier editors and descriptions.

You can update by rerunning the setup program, though it's recommended you redownload it as a new version of the setup has been added that can update itself.

We also have a wiki, containing tutorial and reference pages on how to edit and script!

Current version is now 0.7.8, which fixes some issues with editor and secret rooms. The latest tutorials also go over how to use the random dungeon system!

I found this game through the Eevee Expo on Youtube! I can't wait to start playing this soon~ I also think I might try my hand on seeing about making a pmd game myself (Possibly, or possibly not! Who knows~ XD)
