So I've been working on regional variants for my own Pokemon, however, I've started getting curious about what other people would think make good regional variants! So let's share our own ideas and such on Regional Variants here!

For Example, These are some sprite edits of some I made

Normal/Flying Normal/Flying

Some Ideas:

Roselia/Roserade: Fairy Type based on the Outfits of the Carnival of Venice
Shinx Line: Ice Type based on the Eurasian lynx
Delibird: Dark Type based on a thief
Buizel Line: Poison/Water Basically a buizel but with kelp and such, based on the damage of fishing industry

I'd love to see more ideas here! So please feel free to show them!

I think what makes a good regional variant is well, either A: design, if it actually looks good or not, you can make a super well thought out regional form but you at least have to make it another option, just as good or an upgraded version, or more importantly, B: If it is inspired and well thought out. If there is a reason why it is like that in the specified region, what lore does it have and what made it evolve into it's new form?

Some ideas I have for regional forms that tie into my region are:

Ice/Water Kingdra -- Horsea's are usually found in cooler areas and they had to adapt to the out of no where cold change to the waters around the region
Poison/Dark Dusknoir -- A witchdoctor Pokémon known for causing mischief around the region. It tampers with the many status effects it has access to
Fighting Purrloin -- A cougar like Pokémon who travels the mountains. They adapted to the many tall, dry, temperate mountainous areas of the region

That's all I've got at the moment, I really just wanted to say what I think makes up a good regional form.

A good regional variant will always have to reflect the world it lives in! I totally agree! You have to cleverly combine either climate or culture of the region into a pokemon. And combined with a good design makes a very good regional variant! Say for example for a desert region:

Ground/Fighting(Or Ghost) Riolu Line: Based on Anubis or a jackal
Ground: Ekans that is based on a sand worm

etc. etc.

You just gotta involve the world around you!
