^ I strongly second all of this. An example of what can happen is the Dark Rising series, where the protag has a personality and voice, which fits in the cutscenes where s/he is interacting with the other (too many...) characters. Sadly s/he's also prone to cringy remarks and failed humor...

One of the best pokemon games I've ever played, with everything in its place and a LOT of amazing details, with classic formula and feel but keeps it really fresh. I'd recommend it to EVERYONE, can't wait to go back to Orbtus and defend my title.
