Recoloring Pokemon Sprites Tutorial in Easy + Quick Methods for Non-Spriters! With Pictures. 1

NOTE: This is not tutorial for spriting. This is just a tutorial for re-coloring with correct or good colors in sprites without adding any extra pixels.

Heyo, do you want to make your own shiny sprite? But you don't know how to do it, here's a tutorial for complete beginners. I will not only show methods but also try to explain.

What to Use?
There are so many good choices like Paint 3D, GIMP, Photoshop, etc. But if you're beginner, I'd highly recommend using paint.net (A software, not website. It's completely free! However you can support the DEVS by buying from windows store.). I personally use it and show tutorial by it.

Alright! Got what to use? Now let's get to the main points:

Please don't skip any step!

Think of sprite and colors you are going to use. It's actually the most important thing to know first. Make a picture in your head then make it real. I will use Bulbasaur with yellow and orange colors.

Get your sprite. You can get them in Graphics\Battlers if you are using Pokemon Essentials. First pic without any words stands for normal forward sprite, XXXb stands for back sprites used on players' side and, XXXb and XXXsb stands for shiny sprites.

After opening, you 'll get your sprite on screen. Then you've to open magic wand tool.

Now we'll have to change it's setting for selecting pixels. You can get it on top menu.

Make sure it matches same as yours. Tolerance is 1 so that it will select correct color otherwise it may also select similar colors. Flood Mode is changed to global because we want to select all pixels of same colors at once. Making it Contiguous, will only select pixels connected each other with same colors like this:

You can use it if you are planning something different. TIP: Click on another pixel while holding Ctrl to select another pixels like this:

Select a pixel. Then use Paintbrush from tool menu.

And yup!! You've to change it's settings as well. Make sure it's just like this:

Hardness should be at 100% to get original color and disable Anti aliasing to get rid of blur.

Now if you choose color from tab, your color property may not be perfect for pixel so yeah next step is important.

This is really simple! All you've do is open color picker from Tools Tab...

and select the original color from sprite:

After that in color properties, you'll notice some changes but you don't need to edit or remember them.

Now let's normally pick the color we want.

Looks different. Right? Now let's just use it!

Now that we've known everything why we don't just finish?
