Cloud Shadows (Fog)

Cloud Shadows (Fog) 2020-07-15

Are you looking for a more atmospheric feel for your game? Then I have good news for you!

I have made a fog where shadows of clouds will move across the map. There's some steps you have to do to get this to work, but it's nothing major. I'll help guide you through the process.

Step 1: When you've downloaded, and extracted the zip file, put the "cloud shadows" into the Fogs folder.
(I've included a psd file if you want to mess with the size, depending on how big your particular map is.)

Step 2: Open your project, and make a new map, or use a preexisting map to start the process.

Step 3: Make a new event, and check the parallel process trigger in the bottom left. (You can make conditions for times of day if you want; That's optional.)

Step 4: Make a change map settings command, go to fog graphic, then select "cloud shadows".
(I've included settings that I've found to work really well.)

Step 4.5: If you want to make the clouds go faster you have to make the SX, and SY variables higher. They have to both be the same number, or else it will look jarring. The zoom must be 200 for the pixels to look right on screen, and for the clouds to move smoothly. If it's lower, or higher, it will move in a choppy way.

Step 5: Once you've applied the map settings put an "erase event" under it, (as shown in the first screenshot.) It's a little crutch to make it run better when it needs to refresh itself.

Step 6: Hit apply, save, then test. You should have something like this. (I don't have a way to record my screen as a gif, but I think you get the idea.)
